PinnyPals is down for maintenance, it'll be back within 24hrs if everything goes to plan
Most of you don't know but a bunch of services PinnyPals used decided to close their doors/start charging money (coincidently within a very short time of each other!). This maintenance will be to migrate away from all that and just rock out by ourselves.
Thanks for your hard work, especially keeping it free!
Can't wait for it to be up again so I can keep trading, heh! (If my trade partner is out there somewhere, I'm coming, buddy!)
Please let me know if you have any troubles with login/sign up/reset pw, as that was a major change. Even things like being logged out oddly, it should generally stay logged in, unless you clear cookies/local storage.
I don't test every browser, generally just Chrome/Firefox/Mobile Safari.
edit: Oh also as a side note, you can login with your email or username now! THE FUTURE IS HERE!
Hmmm I've noticed an issue with "www.pinnypals.com" vs "pinnypals.com", this existed before all this as well I just never really noticed it, always click the same bookmark :P
You can only be logged in to one or the other, so if you login to "pinnypals.com", then later visit "www.pinnypals.com", you'll appeared logged out (when in fact you're still logged in over at "pinnypals.com"). Vice versa.
Long story short, for now, use one or the other It probably won't be fixed till I migrate to the new server!
@grgemonkey random question - do you have pin count history stored anywhere for individual users with date stamps? I'm curious to match up my count of pins with my spending history that I track (because I'm crazy and like math).

@hingo I'm afraid it overwrites every time you hit save They're not stored "as one", each pin->count is a separate row. Probably I can add an export option though.
PinnyPals 2.0 just went live! It's a fairly major overhaul of the trading system (yet still the familiar interface you're used too). I won't write too much about it, as I made this video to do most the explaining.
The two key changes to be aware of if you dont' want to watch that:
1. The Trading Post system is totally new. The "Claims system" from the old site is gone. Now you post an offer and it's immediately available for any other person to accept it, right away. You can now limit who can accept it by country, to counter-act not being able to screen the claims.
Note however, there is a new type of trade called a "Interest Only" or "Looking For" trade, even on the Trading Post, these always require YOU to accept the offers that come in. The site will explain things to use as you use it and everything needs a double confirmation, so feel free to explore (green & red buttons are always "final step", blue/orange/other won't ever commit an action)
2. The "Allow Modify" system is removed entirely. In its place is the "Counter Offer" system, now you can just send the counter offer straight away and accepting the offer shifts to the other pal. You can do go back and forth like this forever.
I would like info on this "fishfish special" mentioned in the video please.
See you at PAX Aus
PSA
Apparently since the new site launched, nobody was receiving emails about new offers. That bug is fixed up now but take a moment to check your trades for anything you might have missed. All those emails were never recorded so they can't be sent out again now.
Thanks for the reports, even things that seemingly work on my end turn out to be bugs indeed! Don't fear reporting things.
Thanks to the handy work of @astroboi you can now find a useful little Search box at the top of most pages with pins on them. A much needed feature as the pin count ever grows! It's just a name search right now but I find that works pretty well
If any one is curious, PinnyPals is not at all effected by the recent Cloudbleed debacle.
In this instance, it paid to be a very simple low key server
That said, it's not gonna hurt to change your password....you'll have to pretend you forgot it as I'm now realising there's no other page to change it.
PinnyPals has been moved to a new server. There are many reasons for this but most of all was that it was just running on 8yr old software and while it worked ok, with all these recent security things like "meltdown" it was actually impossible to secure it.
I know it's "just a pin trading" site but I do like to keep it as secure as I can.
If you're curious the old site scored an F (it used to score better but has been degrading in grade as more unpatchable vulnerabilities have appeared). It also is patched against meltdown and spectre, if those mean anything to you.
If it interests you it also now supports http2.0, it'll probably make the site work faster for you if your browser cares to use it. Things should be faster in general as we also moved from php5 to php71, it may not appear it straight away but your browser is just rebuilding it's cache first time you visit.
Everyone is logged out, everywhere. Good time to start clean.
On a side note, www.pinnypals.com and pinnypals.com are finally treated as one domain, if that doesn't mean anything to you, this will....you won't be randomly logged out any more
That's that, carry on trading. My life is currently in enormous turmoil but I do plan to eventually develop new features

On any pin page, you'll now see a "History" tab. Click that sucker to have all successful trades of that pin/set retrieved! Magic!
Few things to note:
All the data is anonymous and stripped clean of any identifying information, this is done on the server before the request is even sent back.
Except if you're logged in, any trade you were part of is obviously not a secret to you, so that's separated and the full data is shown.
Just go incognito or logout if you're curious to see the difference.
Otherwise enjoy.
