Ugh, the 02-04 daily is a rough one. You'll need three bombs (or a pickaxe) to dig out the Udjat Eye today, but if you're like me, you'll use them trying to get crates which have no bombs, and you will not find another bomb all game. I beat Olmec, but it was a sad run.

Yeah, by the time I got to the mine level with the Udjat Eye, I didn't have enough bombs. I ended up methodically going through every single level and ghost running almost every gem I could find, so I got a pretty high score. It would have been higher had I made it to Olmec, but I decided to shoot a hawk man, who was next to a croc man, who decided to teleport right into me.
And yeah, there was a vault in the mines. I believe it was the same level with the Udjat Eye.
Remember when I was all like, "Yeah no-gold runs are way easier than speedruns!"
That was 1300 runs ago.
Tonight, this game is making me rage.
Spelunky was coded straight from the nine billion names of Death.

Good daily for me today, got past 2-3 finally, all the way to 3-4!
Day 33: Today's daily had very few bombs. I think I ran out of bombs in mines 1-3 and never got another bomb past that bomb, which meant no black market. I did however kill olmec for the the third time. So victory there I suppose. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haQFg-7M598

Having cheated a little in today's daily by listening to you talk about lack of bombs I proceeded to bring the mattock from 1-2 through the next few stages with me.
Turns out the Black Market was full of bombs.
What does one do when they have 42 bombs in the Ice cave...they board the Mothership and get brainfried of course.
I was paying too much attention to the queen and not enough to the alien sitting right below me.

Apparently today's daily was the exact same daily as the one on 1-8-2014. I saw someone in Giant Bomb post that the daily seeds are generated by multiplying the number of the month with the day of the month. That's kind of a shame, if true.

So is the year taken into account at all then? Does that mean we're going to be seeing dailies repeat more often.
Unless something is going to be put in to correct it with the upcoming patch.
I looked back at the dailies from 01/06 and @MrBlarney's is the very same as yesterday's daily.
Which means 02/05 is going to be the same as January 10th's.
Been playing the same dailies and never even noticed.
Got Speedlunky with 7:46 on the clock for the final time.Would've had 6:30 earlier but I get Olmec in his nice hot lava bath and am climbing up to the exit then suddenly BLUE FROGS! I hate them so much.
Been playing the same dailies and never even noticed.
That sense of deja vu over the past few days has not been a simple coincidence. I've generally been doing better on my Dailies for February compared to the equivalent seed from January, perhaps due to improving my general proficiency at playing the game, and perhaps partially due to residual memory of the previous attempt.
Here's my 2014-02-05 run: I get far, but since I miss the Black Market, I don't get a lot of score.
Today's PSN run seemed not too difficult. Ended up purchasing a bunch of shop items trying to get to hell then didn't find Anubis on 4-1. 50k wasted on that ankh. Oh well still beat olmec for the second time ever and finished with over 300k, hurray!

Here's a strategy I found posted on the Giant Bomb forums a week or two ago and I've been using it to rob the black market ever since:
Basically, bomb those first two areas, drop a bomb in the third area and hide in that corner ledge. The bomb will anger the shopkeepers, who will run straight at you and fall to the second (and maybe even third) level. Then you can work your way through the top two shops and head for the ankh. How you deal with the shopkeepers from then on is up to you.

I've actually been using this strategy for a while now through independent discovery, though my personal method is slightly different. I place my first bomb at the location marked '3' on your image, then the second bomb (if there isn't a space for the shopkeepers to fall down) on the location marked '1'. I also hide on the ledge where the Mantrap on the image is - since you're on a lower height than the shopkeepers, they'll always run off the ledge to the lower levels. No need to use a third bomb at the top. Recently, I've been playing with the timings so that the second bomb explodes just as the first shopkeeper gets to it; the second shopkeeper on the top level falls to the lower levels as usual. It's a small modification, but it can save some trouble to have one less shopkeeper on the run.
Crappy enough daily with my inevitable death in the Jungle.
I just had to know what was in that mystery box.
Generally when I enter the black market I'm already wielding a shotgun and the shopkeepers are super pissed with me already.
Putting bombs at #3 is near suicide in that case.
I usually just fire a rope up at the entrance, hang about and wait for the shopkeepers to fall down or run off giving me time to shoot some rounds off down through their shops.
Mm, yes. The situation does change dramatically if the shopkeepers have already been previously aggro'd. Laying two bombs carefully works fine if the Black Market is the first shop raid of a run, but if shopkeepers are already aggressive, there won't be time to lay things down carefully. In those cases, something like your strategy will work better. If I have bomb paste, I still try to throw a bomb at the '3' location to give a little more space for shopkeepers to fall.

ugh, goddamnit. I had a pretty good run going until I came across this Black Market entrance directly below a Kali altar:
I tried to carefully bomb underneath it, but still screwed it up. Ended up dying to a shopkeeper in the black market anyway.
Day 34: Had a really good run until I got to the temple. I died trying to kill Osiris. He was in a really difficult to reach spot and my only ammo for killing him and Osiris 2 was 4 bombs so I had to make them count. I didn't haha. I wasted 3-4 without even hitting him, and then suicided into a crusher block out of rage. First time I raged and yelled Fuck at the game.
Yeah 100% achievements yeah. Time to just do dailies now.
Nice. Did the low scorer one take you long?
That was probably the hardest for me. Accidentally collecting a piece of gold in a treetop or hidden in the snow in the ice caves.

It was the most stressful, I ran out of bombs during Olmec and he fell in the pit I had bombed out with 1 piece left so he wouldn't move so I had to fly under him close to the lava to get him in. And worrying about gold flying at me from the ice caves or bomb frogs going off, which happened a lot.
Speed run may have taken more active attempts to get tho I think.
Woohoo, best run yet in today's daily. My first time making it past 3-1, and I ended up getting all the way to 4-1! Had tons of health, 25+ bombs, but got crushed by a sliding block of murder... Well, now I know what those things do.

I made it to 1-4 today. Died because I thought I could kill a spider above an explosives crate and have enough time to get away.
Before I took a break from this game, I would just have a shotgun from robbing shops prior to the black market. If shopkeepers are a certain number of tiles away from you, they don't aggro, so you can pretty much jump down to the level of the first black market shops and start blind firing away. Then you have an elevation advantage on every other 'keeper.
The only time I use bombs is when they are on a lower level than me and are either trapped where I know they won't escape the blast radius or when they are sticky and I can throw two or three in rapid succession to be sure they don't dodge.

Is anyone playing this game with keyboard+mouse instead of a 360 controller? Is it manageable?
Also, @Peewi, if you set your February death montage to this, it'd be pretty incredible.
My fiancee has somehow been using the keyboard to play the game, despite the fact that she has a perfectly good 360 controller. She has made it to the temple once or twice. I don't believe the game uses the mouse at all.

Edit: if that date thing is true that's super lame. This game needs that pro HUD soon and a more reliable way to replay certain seeds

That looks to be the case. Here's a 1/8/2014 challenge that's identical

I'm enjoying the new features!
I made it to level 5, but died because i had to trudge through the water level and couldn't get past all the bloody fish.
Ended up rank 982. Not bad I guess.
