Maybe it just me, but it feels like its been really hard to get a fair game on the Dome lately. I don't think I've played a game in the last three days that was closer than 300 tickets. Just today, two games in a played with a fluctuating player deficit of 5-8. I liked @Shoguns earlier suggestion of ranked + balance plugins.
I bought this for the Xbox One, partly because it's the new hotness, and partly because my aging PC could barely handle BF3.
I find BF4 visually confusing because to be plain I can't see shit half the time. I get shot by guys that (to me) are invisible until my ghost vision highlights them. It makes me wonder if my eyesight is going, I'm old and senile, or I just need more practice. The constant debris and smoke in this game makes me miserably bad at seeing anything. BF3 had some of that, but it wasn't nearly this bad. I was hoping that jumping to Xbox meant that it wasn't a performance issue.
The starting weapons are terrible, because I'll shoot someone and score several hits and they'll whip around and kill me instantly. I know there's a hump I need to get over to unlock better stuff, but it's just painful to slog through those first few levels trying to score points by something other than shooting mans. I love Rush but without some kind of auto balance system, it almost always devolves into one team getting rolled over and over. If you aren't lucky enough to join the winning team, you've got a long evening ahead of you. The constant beatings are making me reluctant to start the game at all. I'm just not having fun yet and that is especially disappointing for a new console with a limited number of titles I can play.
Any tips for getting past the newbie stage and having fun again? I'm Mortal Peril on Xbox One if anyone wants to add me.
I will add you when I get home. My tag is AhiMahi. We can squad up but I haven't had any success with team or party chat while playing BF4. If we are lucky then we can play more than 1 round together without game crashing out to main menu.
It took sometime for me to get comfortable playing and felt like I was getting better. For me, it is all about situation awareness. I try to think well ahead before I take action. The key word is "try"
I've got my Xbone sitting my closet waiting to be hooked up for winter break, but I've got BF4 on 360 to tide me over for the next couple of weeks. How bad is the crashing on the Xbone? I've had it happen enough on 360, but the Xbone thread is getting me nervous as far as the playability of BF4 there.
I think this game has a memory leak on my system or something. Many times when I play, the longer I play, the choppier the respawn menu gets (and the choppier the game gets too, although it's multiplied by like a million in the respawn menu). Then eventually it crashes.
The worst feeling in the world is playing as the Commander and watching three squads of snipers run to the far corners of the earth, doing nothing to help the team, and being powerless to stop it.

It's a bit of a learning curve to get used to how guns work and registering aim. I will say I think the Xbox version is a little blurry and muddy compared to the PS4 version.
As to the starting weapons.. I find myself going back to them, specifically the Support and Engineer weapon. After a while, unlocking new guns loses its appeal for me and I want to get the attachments for actual tactical game play (like suppressors for sneaking around behind enemy lines). The more you play, the more you will adjust to all these new environmental detail. Just spam that right bumper when you are looking around to mark anything you see, it helps.

That's what supply crates are for.
Does that kill teammates?

Yes, supply crates will indeed squash you like a bug, which happened to me last nite for the first time in the game.
Guns unlocked too quickly in BF3 but they take waaaaaay too long now, so DICE still needs to find a middle-ground. Especially the Assault Rifles, in-between the AEK and the FAMAS I ended up unlocking about five grenade launchers. Now that I have a French rifle I can feel it trying to surrender at the start of every map.

Same here, only I found something out recently, if you kill the BF4 browser when the game is running, it will fix a great majority of the leak. But it sill builds up over time. But it used to be from the get go I had leak issues with choppyness(on a high end machine), once I kill that tab every time I go in, its super smooth until what we assume is a leak starts building up again.
For now I've been trying to stick to vehicles when I can. It seems a lot of people jump in and make a bee line for the front and die spectacularly in the process. Hanging back with even a truck or a jeep with a 50 cal can score you a few kills and many assist/suppression points. I'm playing Engy mostly, and finally unlocked the Stinger. I make it my business now to annoy enemy air as much as possible. I don't have a lot of kills, but if they're busy dodging missiles then they aren't harassing my team.
I also found that Conquest mode is a lot less punishing than Rush, probably because you aren't pinned to a single set of objectives and can be flexible with moving around.

Helicopter repair squad ran pretty well, but boat repair was very spotty. In the chopper I can just switch to the repair tool and hold down the button to see it get fixed.
On the boat I had to keep adjusting my aim all over the place to very occasionally see the repair meter move. This was on the larger patrol boat where I had a passenger spot.

Is there a sweet spot?
There are two that I can reliably hit:
1) if the boat has TV missiles, aim for the missile turret. This works every single time and doesn't require guesswork.
2) try for the railing. Because the railings are so narrow, you're going to have to adjust your repair tool nearly every time the boat driver turns or hits a wave. This will be insanely frustrating.
Alternatively, you can try to get repairs done on the dingy on the back of the boat...but I've found that to be incredibly unreliable.

YMMV.
- Game crashes to BF4 menu at random. This happens about once 30-45 minute.
- Game crashes to XB1 main menu while loading new map after round endd. This happens about 95% of time with conquest mode.
- Party/squad chat does not work. Yes, I checked for NAT and joined party before starting BF4.
- Random muting of sound then followed by rubber banding.
- Getting kills by someone who does not have line of sight, like getting shot through a wall.
Dice is supposedly fixing some of these problems but we will see.
I get irritated by these problems but I still play BF4 almost every night. The graphic, texture, and game play of 64 players are worth it. 64 players games are thing of beauty and only reason I did not go back to Xbox360. Only thing I miss is squading up with my xbox bros like you, mulletude, archie, wondermink, creasy, etc, etc.

Probably the coolest sequence of collision, explosion and shit spinning wildly out of control so far.
Thanks reddit, you're not just full of useless crap.
That was pretty good but getting back into the jet didn't require the insane luck and timing it did in the BF4 one. And the C4 stick is mind boggling at that speed, lucky RPG hits aren't quite the same.
@AhiMahi, yeah I should be making the switch around the holidays to xbone and we can waste dudes together. A couple of the guys we used to run with, but don't post on here have already moved to the Xbone while the rest should be switching spring-ish based on what they've told me.

Too bad you can't TK with cruise missiles.
Try restarting Origin?

I have decided the ACE 52 and ACE 23 are my jam. The ACE 23 especially, seems like you can go full auto and keep on target very easily.

Jesus fucking christ. That's the most insane thing I've ever seen in a BF game.

I am still having problems with getting into a conquest game and it takes several attempts. But BF4 is definitely enjoyable on XB1 now.
Makes me feel special.
