I couldn't get into Payday at all. First mission? Sure OK, we did fine, it was fun. Second mission? Run through these streets, while facing these infinite bullet sponge cops, with very limited ammo for yourself.
Me and 3 buddies never made it past the 2nd mission, either we're terrible, or you need to grind the first mission a million times to unlock stuff you can use to beat the 2nd level.

what do you mean the second level? It isn't a campaign you just pick heists and complete the heist. Some of the heists have more than one stage. Which heist were you doing?

Got into the beta, will be trying it out this evening.
Watching a few streams, I still don't understand why this is a Battlefield game. It feels like half-payday and half-battlefield, but not all the good parts. Maybe it feels different actually playing it.

After playing it its much more Battlefield than Payday. I think everyone was thinking Payday due to the videos and what we all saw, but it definitely feels a lot more like a Battlefield game to me than Payday. I played the Blood Money game mode and it was alright I guess. I hate all the fucking vehicles. I do not understand why there are transport choppers and armored trucks with grenade launchers on this map that consists of a single city block. One guy just drove around spamming his grenade launcher. Never got out and was never killed until I took it upon myself to RPG him until he was disabled.
So far some of the player models are pretty bad and some of the animations are jerky. Shooting feels and sounds like a Battlefield game. Movement feels a bit slow though. I feel like I'm either weighed down with shit or running through several inches of water. Zipline and the grappling hook are neat but I don't know if they are going to be super useful. I'm worried this is going to end up as an oooohhh/aaaahhhh sort of thing.
The Blood Money game mode puts a money pile somewhere on the map and you go and hold E to fill up a bar that consists of the loot you're holding. You do this many, many times and the amount of money you have goes up by 100k each time the bar fills up. You can just grab a little bit and high-tail it back to your vault to drop it off or you can keep grabbing money. The risk being that you'll be there forever piling up your money while the crooks are also trying to get to the money. Each team hauls the loot back to their vault and whoever has the most cash at the end wins the round.
It really is more like Battlefield Cops and Robbers than Payday. Not really even sure why they are calling it a battlefield game. I hope they weren't wanting to cash in on the name of the franchise considering it is just a flaming hulk at this point. Overall I'm thoroughly meh. Absolutely not worth $60 in any way.
BF4 has the issue where there is just too much stuff. I'm interested in playing Hardline, since we don't get access to a full military arsenal, so it becomes a bit more infantry focused.
You absolutely get full access to a full military arsenal. Maybe each class doesn't have access to each other classes weapons, but it is still a military arsenal when you factor in all the vehicles, rocket launchers, grenades/launchers, etc

Damn... I was expecting maybe something more like Rush, where you'd get a few new toys the farther in you progressed in a map. But with all that, yeah, this is pretty much Battlefield then.

I started out with the typical engineer kit. UMP45, RPG, some pistol, and I don't recall the gadget but I was not looking closely. You get cash for doing various things in game and then use the cash to buy shit sort of like Counter Strike I guess.
Depends on how much it's on sale by (personally, I paid $70 for the Digital Deluxe and another $50 for the Premium...and I feel like I'm getting my money's worth of enjoyment), yes, and no.
edit - been too long since I bought BF4...corrected the price of the DD version.

The cash is for permanent unlocking, rather than CS style, though.
I feel like it could benefit from being a little less Battlefield and a little more it's own thing. Or a little more Bad Company...
This is actually the most disapointing thing to me.
Feel it would've being much more interesting if either you had a set amount of cash to spread out through all your spawns in a match or you had to earn stuff throughout a match to make the game escalate from a mostly bare bones shooter into full on battlefield.

Nah.
Option one would just create people who left once they ran out of money. And how would new people joining work?
Option 2 creates a situation were the rich get richer.

Give them an average of the current money left in the game.
And yes, rich gets richer is more interesting mechanically than an XP sign with a dollar sign in front of it.

Welp. It's just copy pasted assets from BF4 and added a new game mode. They reskined the vehicles and soldeirs from BF4 and recorded really silly new lines. Color me unimpressed.

And it's yours for just £49.99.... £10 MORE than Battlefield 4!

Like I've said its fun, just not $60 fun.
Too bad, I was kind of hoping for a sleeper hit like 2142. This smells way more like EA just quickly slapping together as a stop-gap solution since they have no other shooter to fill the Fall sales slot.
Got in. Good lord it's amazing, is it too soon to say it's more fun than BF4? In my first game I was jumping off skyscrapers, roadkilling people in squad cars, and watching that huge ass crane explode that was possibly even more impressive than the skyscraper destruction on Shanghai in BF4.
I enjoy it, but I would think it would of made way more sense as DLC for BF4, I would even think about as much as $30 being worth it.
Do it like they did Bad Company 2: Vietnam and have it just launch from it's own thing but still be a lower cost then a full game.

My feelings exactly. Everything about the game feels just like BF4 with Cops and Robbers skins. Played for about 45 minutes tonight. It's not bad, but it's not $60 good.

Do the models have bags of loot? I never even noticed. It definitely feels like a mod to bf than a standalone game.
I haven't played it yet but this is the feeling i got from watching gameplay videos... it looks like a Mod... a decently made mod, but a mod none the less... i mean i straight up laughed when i saw the guy walk up to a pile of cash 'interact' with it then get a '+100k cash!' then a message to 'take it to the secure vault' or something, i mean... seriously?
What are they trying to do with this game? did they see the (fairly successful) time payday 2 had and thought 'We can totally do that!' and then miss completely or? the entire point about previous 'cops and robbers' games was the more tense, tactical sense to them (i.e SWAT games).
At its (current, beta ect.) best this just looks like a reskinned battlefield/'War' game and i mean, why would i want that? you haven't gotten your previous Battlefield game finished yet.

It is fun, like I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but at $60 I would never buy it. $30 or $20 yes absolutely it is worth that, but at the cost of a AAA title? Fuck no.
Give it a try and see for yourself, it does have quite a few positive things going for it but it can't justify the cost.
I might give it a try but since i live on convict island its going to more be 80-90dollars... so yeah, i've pretty much been turned off from EA games or at the least pre-ordering them or buying them within the first month.
How big is the beta? that'll probably factor into my effort levels aswell...
I agree with whomever said it should be an addon like bfv was to bc
And on a tangent, bfv was a letdown. I loved the original. Rented a server and we hosted mods and user made maps. The bc2 just didn't capture the same feel. Maybe that can be revisited in a later bf when they get done with 'ermagerd modern warfare lets be tacticool'

I'll disagree. I want a level playing field in my fps games.
I can see the fact that it's a fancy BF4 reskin being against full price, but if it's as fun and content filled as BF4 I'll probably get it at launch. I just want to see how many other gametypes there are, and if they have payday 2-level complexity of heists mixed with driving.

Well we know of two, this Heist mode, and Blood Money, which is a weird lovechild of KotH and CTF. Beyond that I don't think they've said, but it seems odd that they would hold back announcing more modes this close to release. And if those are the only two modes in this game, and they're all like this beta map, this is going to be a very content-lite release.

I'll probably play some rounds tonight and then maybe download Hardline if it's registered to me on Origin.
I'll be on but depending on things I might be in a Oblit only server with a bunch of people so I might not be in the PA TS.
