I can see the fact that it's a fancy BF4 reskin being against full price, but if it's as fun and content filled as BF4 I'll probably get it at launch. I just want to see how many other gametypes there are, and if they have payday 2-level complexity of heists mixed with driving.
Well we know of two, this Heist mode, and Blood Money, which is a weird lovechild of KotH and CTF. Beyond that I don't think they've said, but it seems odd that they would hold back announcing more modes this close to release. And if those are the only two modes in this game, and they're all like this beta map, this is going to be a very content-lite release.
I believe there was a vehicle chase mode mentioned in the leaked vid. TDM seems likely, and I would not count out Rush and Conquest.
That said, BF4 has like, 15 game modes, and only three of them are worth playing. Quality over quantity.
Edit: There was also talk of a hostage rescue mode.
Bear in mind all of you who have said 'it's not worth $60' we've only seen two modes and one map so far. It's also not being made by the main BF dev team, it's by the Dead Space guys so the single player might be much more substantial and impressive.
I agree that they've kept too close to the UI and look of BF3/4 but maybe there's still some post-processing effects they aren't done with yet or the weapon balance needs altering. I've enjoyed all the games I've played of it so far and having lots of civvy cars is a lot of fun. Just wish (like others here) that they didn't have the attack chopper or armoured car with a turret.
Like I said it might be worth full AAA price to others but just not for me.
It's just a little too cartoony for my taste I guess. Saints Row, Borderlands, this. All feel like I'm playing a cartoon, and while well made games, I'm just not into it.
And I'm fine with others enjoying this and I'm not going to argue about how much people spend on their games, I pumped out maximum dollars for BF4 + server and I buy board games that no one will play with me.

I'm gonna probably try a few rounds of beta when I get home tonight.
It might not even run since I had to install it on my mechanical drive

Can I just take a moment to point out Borderlands The Pre-sequel was announced?

That dance break in the middle reminded me that I still find moments where I will need to install WoW because I run into someone who hasn't seen and heard all the /jokes and /dances and then 6 hours of my life is gone and I've leveled a priest to 20 and am contemplating resubbing because I found this really nice guild...
What's BF3's expansion population like these days? My friend and I are considering picking up all the DLC, but if most of the population is just playing vanilla from the free promotion and the expansions are sparser turf, it might be better to just invest in BF4 instead. Thoughts?
The cash is for permanent unlocking, rather than CS style, though.
I feel like it could benefit from being a little less Battlefield and a little more it's own thing. Or a little more Bad Company...
This is actually the most disapointing thing to me.
Feel it would've being much more interesting if either you had a set amount of cash to spread out through all your spawns in a match or you had to earn stuff throughout a match to make the game escalate from a mostly bare bones shooter into full on battlefield.
Nah.
Option one would just create people who left once they ran out of money. And how would new people joining work?
Option 2 creates a situation were the rich get richer.
Give them an average of the current money left in the game.
And yes, rich gets richer is more interesting mechanically than an XP sign with a dollar sign in front of it.
I'll disagree. I want a level playing field in my fps games.
Uh, progression systems localised to the individual game ala MOBA/Counter Strike style do give you a level playing field.
Standard FPS progression systems do exactly the opposite between veteran and new players.
Also watching the beta footage the game looks most interesting when it's not being Battlefield and the dullest when it looks like Battlefield with cops.

good games last night, gents. Even in our losses, we did fairly well. We can't carry the pubbies every game.

The only one we lost while I was there was Hainan and god that was just such a shitty match.
First Spawn: We all pile into the attack boat which precedes to kamekaze ram the other attack boat and kill us all.
Second Spawn: They own every point and I die almost immediately after spawning into our main base to a jet.
Third spawn: It takes everyone concentrating on Bravo just to cap one point.
It was miserable.
Every other round we whooped up though.

Still no Hardline for me. That really pisses me off as I signed up super early and got the 'You're In!' message but it's not showing up in Origin and no email.
It's just as well though, I tend to not stick around long in these games.
Man, I'm trying to enjoy Hardline but I just can't seem to. I'm so used to bf4 that I'm trying to play it the same way and I'm getting destroyed. I just can't get my bearings at all. I'm so used to the "weight" for lack of a better word in Bf that the fast paced, almost COD like atmosphere and game play just isn't working for me. I have no idea how to adjust to it.

Odd, Hardline feels really sluggish to me compared to BF3/4

Yes got in on the PS4 Hardline beta. Time for Battlefield: Payday.
I enjoyed my brief time with Hardline, but $60 seems a bit much.
That said, the police LAV thing is insane. I was doing pretty poorly on foot (guns feel anemic compared to BF4), but once I got in that LAV thing? Didnt die once.
The cash you earn is the currency spent on new gear.
I deleted the hard line beta already because of that cartoony feel I discussed earlier. I just can't enjoy myself, but I understand that works for others so have fun storming the castle!
I'm also having trouble psyching myself up for Hardline. It's a perfectly fine game, but in the context of the other entries it feels like a mod. The scale of the action is a bit smaller, too. All of that doesn't make me interested in spending 60 dollars on it this holiday.
An unnecessary "mod" of Battlefield isn't what I wanted out of Visceral.

Played a couple games last night, overall I'll be giving it another go. I played bf3, but not 4. And at some point my origin account got hacked and I lost the one game I bought on it (bf3). Hardline is kind of refreshing after so many of the same war time large battlefields with random points dotting the land to capture.
It certainly still suffers from "IM DUH SNIPUH" syndrome though. Had a squad mate that just climbed the crane and sniper all game, going negative too 4 and 12 I think?
I'll have to get used to the guns and how they fire after playing a game like natural selection for so long.
Hardline feels like they took the worst parts of battlefield 4 and made it a game. I mean at the e3 showing they had minutes of staircase fighting and other choke points, BF4 does this horribly. The shooting is not tight enough and it devolves into a bunch of spam, I mean who really likes 64 players metro the game?
Battlefield 4 is at its best in squad vs squad combat in a forest (lots of trees and little hills to flank and play around, broad instead of long game field), but very few maps seem to take advantage of this and instead have instaspawning ac130s and attack aircraft that do nothing except annoy players.
When is Bad Company 2 coming out?

The AC130 is just weird. So you've got an air asset that is kinda powerful, but it is incredibly easy to take down by a jet (it always spawns in the same spot, and can actually be taken down in a single strafe run) but also respawns instantly and infinitely.
You guys aren't making Hardline sound worth it. Think i'll go for battlefront or the next core bf game and stick with 4 unless the final game is mindblowing compared to the beta.

Ahahaha.
That's a blooper. Yeah I'm talking about BC3, never played the first one so BC2 was kinda like BC1 for me!
AC130 is just dumb, it adds nothing to the game just like the commander in BF4. There's no situation where you go "Oh haha awesome AC130". It's just an annoyance that turns up, and has the combo of being annoying/impossible to get rid of.

It's a pretty tough recommendation unless the setting really does it for you, or if you're just desperate for more Battlefield content. I personally didn't find the game modes all that well balanced, and the armored vehicles and choppers felt a bit out of place for the setting (ESPECIALLY the twin minigun choppers). I think there's a good idea in here, but it feels so copy/pasted, slapped together and rushed to market, all I think it's going to do is further sully the already tarnished Battlefield brand.

Fun fact DICE is just now starting to work on "balancing" and "improving" core gameplay.
They should change the name to "Counter attack truck: The game".
