I could see them doing Early Access right away, but I do not see them going to full release without announcing the date at least a month or two in advance.
Yeah, PS4 and PC launch at the same time. Early Access isn't possible. I don't think they're going to pull a Saturn "It's out now!" thing, either. Would be cool if they did, but I don't see it happening.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Colbert is well known as a giant nerd, he loves this sort of thing.
It's just weird to see a game getting mainstream coverage in a manner similar to movies or music. Not that I don't love Conan's Clueless Gamer bit, I just can't think of another time I've seen a dev get a normal interview.
Yeah, it's one thing to stave off questions about release when game journalists are pawing at you at E3 or something, because who cares.
But if you're on a national late night show with a host with as much clout as Colbert, when he asks when it's coming out, you have an answer for him, and it's not some vague time next year, it's very soon.
You were saying? :P
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
It's a team of 10 people working on a game with a nearly unfathomably scope. Any date they give it going to be kinda pulled out of their ass, even more so than regular game development. I imagine they don't want to say anything until they're reasonably sure.

The issue is they said it's still 2015 release. We're under 3 months away from the year ending.... They're cutting it very close for a release announcement. Maybe there's a big thing with it being tied to VR or some crazy thing like that, I dunno.

Persona 5 said the same thing until it suddenly wasn't. This is how release dates work, and it's good that it's how it work because caring more about the date than the game gives up games that are broken at launch.

Right but then don't say when it'll be out until you're ready? I mean the late 2015 release was already a delay from early 2015. And nobody is wanting a broken, unfinished game.
Seems silly to go on Colbert and NOT have an imminent release... the general populace will forget about this in a month or so, once the next annual AAA in whatever franchise they follow gets released.

REMINDER! Someone record this for me since we don't get it in the UK. There's also the announcement on the 3rd.
I'm certain they'll upload that to their youtube channel right after.

Oh nice, they started to understand how the Internet works! They used to restrict the YouTube stuff for foreign audiences.
No No Man's Sky release date on Colbert.
A deleted tweet, I think?
Well of course not; that's what the big event tomorrow is for.
Enjoy!
Also - Colbert's mind is visibly blown. Awesome!
GIVE US A RELEASE DATE SEAN! I'm throwing money at the screen and nothing is happening. It's like teasing at this point.
Also, don't get mad at people tweeting about release dates, Sean... you promised a release date announcement "soon" at E3 months ago.
He just gets it! It's not a mockery like Conan!

It wasn't Sean tweeting. It was someone who was at the taping.

What's the meat of the game? What's the endgame supposed to be?
The only stated goal is to reach the center of the galaxy. Otherwise you just explore and be amazed.
Part two of the New Yorker thing. They actually show how the math creates the planets (which makes a lot of sense when you see it).
