I'm seriously enjoying free week Brand. Is there any reason not to try to make him my main mid pick? I haven't played enough games with him (played vs Zed, Lux, and a really awful Kassadin), so I don't know who counters him/whether it would be bad to pick him before seeing the opponent's mid.
Of course, if I'm playing mid in ranked something has gone pretty wrong anyway, so it's sort of a hypothetical question.
If you like doing situational batshit crazy damage, Brand is a nice fellow. IF (big if) you can hit his entire combo when a jungler comes to gank, you just picked up two kills. He's tricky to play, there a mages who're technically straight out better than him
But hot damn is it satisfying to just light the world on fire! He was my main mid before Ahri got released, but can't speak too much about him right now as I've not really played him for ages. PhantomLord plays him in D1 sometimes and wins so I guess he's quite playable if you decide you like him.
i have like a 90% win rate as jinx, but I stopped playing her because LoL will decide I'm really good and put me against players way above me just because one champion is my spirit animal

from the sound of goum's posts, he's more interested in karma's engage/disengage potential, which of course doesn't need AP
Well, she works well built tanky/CDR anyways (not that she isn't strong with AP, but she benefits a ton from being able to just spray magic everywhere for supporty reasons)
MARVEL... at my poor mechanics! REJOICE... at my unlikely victory! Seriously, though, I'd be in like bottom Bronze V if reading this thread didn't prop me up with Game Knowledge. Thanks, posters.
What's up with Lulu? I carried myself out of bronze with her, and now I can't seem to do much to affect games at all. It used to be poke all day erryday in lane then go cc people and ult the initiator in team fights. Lately I just get pushed out of lane and instagibbed in team fights before I can do much of anything.
depends. Vs that team definitely since they were all physical and assassin focused it made getting a randuins a really easy decision.
Other times I've gotten mikaels since they had some hard cc/burst I wanted to stop and I will get locket if they have magic damage.
You only get 2 seconds of movement on the mantra e anyway so building for big shields or qs isn't really necessary.
I also find that by the time you have talisman and ruby sight stone there isn't much time to build ap anyway even on champions which get a lot from it.
This is just because you're already two items deep and the marginal value on AP items depends a lot on being ahead with AP items already. But since I would have to spend 4k on guise/void after the 4.5k I've spent on talisman, rss, and boots 2 before it even makes sense to buy a big AP item like Dcap means that going that route leaves you weak compared to a real caster and much less efficient than just building tank.
And I think that that applies to most AP support champions. It's one reason why only the champions with really high base damages can be effective support mages unless they snowbal early and it's one of the reasons why the increased ap scaling on Janna (traded for base damage reductions or just straight nerfs!) et all haven't really helped them.
This "build to the game" also informs how I start. Vs melee supports I start with pots and wards. The wards let me set up an early pink and control space and the greens mean that if I am going to lose a fight it's going to be all on their duo lane. Which I can usually prevent by rooting the support and sticking a slow field in front of the adc and then putting the shield on whomever is getting attacked. Vs ranged supports I start with Dorans shield because it means I auto win the lane if they also don't start with Dorans shield.
So I have to say that despite the changes, bot lane feels 10x times more snowbally than before because if you fall behind you will NEVER EVER CATCH UP ON LEVELS because of the minion XP change. Also jesus christ how is veigar support so fucking impossible to deal with.

I feel Lulu is weak with the current balance/meta situation. Others disagree.

I'm struggling with Lulu, too, when I even get to play support in ranked (seriously, it seems so popular!). I don't know that she's weak; buffs to her mana costs are an improvement I can feel, for example. But it sure is easy to get psyched out in the new meta, which is a lot like the old meta except with 100% more Thunderdome. Very intimidating when you're a slow, fragile mage.

Lulu is ok but suffers from the fact that she is a scaling Mage with her scaling and base stats nerfed. With a Dorans shield she should not be losing trades bottom lane (though her auto attack is not nearly as snappy as Karmas) unless you get outplayed.
Bottom lane is thunderdome and Veigar is dealt with by killing him/his adc because he does no damage past level 2. If he gets ahead though watch out.
Be Veigars level 2 is however very strong, with a 80 base damage ability and a 1.5 second AOE stun.

My problem with Brand is that when I try to play him well I miss every skillshot, bungle up the combo, and die tons. When I'm just like "eh, I'm made of fire an stuff" I end up carrying.
Junglers who completely ignore the lanes are the worst. Farming while the enemy team has an Elise non-stop ganking is just throwing the game.
Since every legitimate jungle item has conservation stacks on it there is no excuse to not gank lanes.
Often, as in nearly daily, I jungle and my lanes are never in a good position to gank
they push the wave hard to the enemy tower and wait patiently to provide a meal to the enemy jungler who can of course hit their unwarded backside and leave them with nowhere to go
the best I can do is hang around and hope I'm in the right place to assist at the right time in those situations, bronze players don't seem to understand that the friendly jungler can't do much if they've pushed all the way up

It's strange though. Because, theoretically at least, the people on the other side of said lanes are also bronze and should similarly be easy lunch, no?

Finally won a game that had both a diamond and plat player in it. It was a glorious match. It all happened out of spite.

Yes. It provides 1233 gold worth of combat stats for 1600 gold.
The stats it provides are bad and situational. Most junglers don't need much armor to prevent themselves from dying to jungle creeps. Most jungles don't need attack speed to clear. Almost no junglers scale on attack speed and armor in any meaningful way.
So you spend 1600 gold for armor and attack speed and the 40% gold passive. This means you have to make up that money by power farming. But you can't power farm because you can't fight anyone that you run into because you spent 1600 gold on stats that don't help you.
Compare to Spirit of the AG, which was just nerfed, 2100 worth of stats for 2000 before the passives, which are just as strong if not stronger than the wriggles passive. Conservation is so strong that every jungle item(except wriggles) was given it because when it was released AG was the only item which was being built. Conservation is basically 6.66 GP/10 so long as you kill a jungle creep every 40 seconds or two every 80.

Why don't you dive? Or counter gank? Or communicate with your lanes? Because as a support the only time i am not going to be shoving the lane down the enemies throat is if i get an advantageous position to freeze and starve them.

A really pushed bot lane can be an easy dragon, because it makes it hard for enemy bot lane to respond / ward in the first place. You need to know where the enemy jungle is, but if they appear top, for example, just go solo dragon.

7-0 Karma support so far. Damn this is ridiculous. You just Kite all day.

No matter how you play her really, she'll wreck faces no matter what.

this would make a good riven skin
I mean it sort of does, since her shields scale with AP and the speed boost goes away when the shield gets popped, right?

it's that bad really?
It's a pretty substantial gold sink for basically no combat stats on a role that (generally) needs to impact the game decently early
