So Rust is a game where you start off with a rock in your hand and your pecker poking out and you have to do whatever it takes to survive.
Start bashing that rock against some trees and rocks and make yourself a real hatchet.
Wander into abandoned towns filled with zombies and radiation.
Build hide-outs, set traps, make guns, raid other peoples' bases.
Just don't die, because if you do, you'll end up naked with a rock in your hand.
Basically it's a DayZ style survival game with better graphics and interface, made by the Garry's Mod guys in Unity in early Alpha, and it's surprisingly rad.

Yeah, but, that's a good thing.
1: you can get cloth and food from animals by crouch walking up to them , hitting them with a rock and then following them to where they stop sprinting and repeating the process.
2: focus on collecting stone, the rest is easy to find.
3: make a stone hatchet first, then a shelter with a camp fire and cook your meat
4: get as far away from other people as you possibly, possibly can. They will always, always try to kill you for your stuff.
5: there's nowhere you can go to get away from people.
6: staying near mountains/rocky hills gives you better places to run and hide from folks when you need to
7: towns are mostly picked over and way too dangerous, and usually irradiated anyway
8: as soon as you have any sort of surplus, make a stash and a sleeping bag. When you die, you can re spawn every five minutes at the sleeping bag.

So I prepared an arrow in my bow, shot him in the dick and then slammed the door.
Didn't stop him so I did it again.
Same result.
Next shot dropped him and I got myself a shiny new hatchet, then got murdered by a pair of bandits with guns.

This has nothing similar besides having to gather supplies
I mean by that logic you could say that like...Star ocean 3 is like minecraft
This game is hella rough around the edges, but an amazing amount of fun with a partner already.
Does it stick around when you log off?
Because that seems like it would just lead to lots of break ins
Otherwise it takes a long time to get into them, but you should still hide it somewhere relatively safe.

Still super, super early in development, and it's pretty easy to lose all your progress after logging off, but if you got a buddy or two to run with, it's a seriously good time.
Are you losing progress because its an alpha, or because most of the servers have the logoff=sleeping body feature turned on?
Once due to a server wipe from a patch.
Not a big deal, building up a reserve and building a base is half the fun.

We made what is perhaps the most ridiculous base ever. It's like in a crack between some mountains, essentially partly a cave, except we tried to put a roof on the bits that weren't covered and the thing is on a slant and it's too tight to put pillars properly and man oh man. Imagine the most rickety, ramshackle mining operation shack thing, built into a mountain and that is our base. You gotta duck in multiple spots, jump in others etc.
I just purchased a dedicated server for Rust, and I was wondering if you guys would be interested in having it be the PA server? At the moment it is only 50 slots. I'm looking for names, so any suggestions would be appreciated! It is currently being loaded onto a new quiet node (to avoid DDOS) so it will be a couple hours yet. I will post the IP info very soon, but until then, send me some names!!
