Sweet that looks amazioh god they're putting Scarlet in it somehow.

Actually it should be cool, and I thought we'd have to wait longer. IMO this calls for Tuesday wuv when it comes out. My weird worry about EoTM: what if it's TOO good? People will just go there instead of wuv. I bet that does happen at first when it's new.

Ender: Don't worry about it, I didn't notice you dying too often or anything. Necros are a complicated class to play in WvW, and one of my many schemes is to come with a better plan to take advantage of them.

@mojojoeo haha suck it you don't deserve an apology for always forgetting my sparkles :'(

Yeah, I've been pondering on how to best place wells and such for maximum efficiency. I think the boon-to-condition well will come in very handy, if I can use it to disrupt their front line during the intial rush. Blowing apart all their boons to allow our bomb to hit harder, that sort of thing. The problem becomes I have 3 great wells to drop on a front line, and I can't do all of them at the same time. :P

    Question.

How did the story go from "There are like, 7 more primordial dragons left all and all of them make Zaitan look like a little bitch" to, just from second hand observation, "The Mary Sue Chronicles"?

I mean Scarlet is probably an awesome villian but good god.

The narrator is interesting to me. It might turn out to be nothing, but:

It's Tara Strong, who also voices Scarlet.

She also did voice-over for Twilight Aetherpath, and for Tower of Nightmares. Her voice doesn't start quite so distorted, but it gets layered on.

Now I know she's not doing her Scarlet voice, but the slight progression from a normal voice to the altered one does interest me.

it's weird actually, because she's sort of grown on me in a preverse way because she's literally the kind of villain I would have created in high school (sort of like batman, but evil). Initially I was like this is shitty but now it has this almost perverse nostalgia.

Tara Strong, huh. She voiced Raven in Teen Titans (and several other secondary characters). Time for wild theories about Scarlet unleashing her terrible world destroying demon of a father on Tyria! yes, the pale tree has been around ;)

Yeah, that too. The stuff in her lair really does suggest sincere method to the madness, and also heavily leans to the idea that she's been corrupted by a Dragon.

I mean, you can craft most of them for a profit, and buy the ingredients off the TP... Isn't that the definition of being craftable? You don't have to do any salvaging, leave that to your legion on e-slaves who sell them to you cheeeeeeeeep.

Hi. My name is Chuggs, and I'm a squirrel addict. When I see a squirrel, I know he isn't good for me. Like yeah, maybe I'll feel that sweet heady rush of victory, and the soft supple fabric of the bag he drops. And maybe I want that. Maybe I need that.

But I know that if I just give that squirrel one little tickle from my greatsword that I'm going to be hooked for the chase, and that I'm going to wake up in some strange corner of Garry, surrounded by musty supply boxes and Dolyaks that reek of sex, with half a dozen messages from my Commander asking me if I'm coming in to work today or not.

I know that. Really, I do.

That squirrel just looks so succulent red and delicious, and I can see him hobbling from my cripple, and I know if I just Rush ONE TIME I'll be caught up to him.

    What's a Charr to do?

On a more strategic note, I completely understand why we ignore squirrels when we are in a big group. However, at the end of the night when we are 8-9 people and getting regularly crushed by zergs of 20-30+, I think that quick-focusing the small groups of 1-3 that come into our line of fire is one of the few productive things we can do on our own. It is good strategically as it knocks out the enemy scouts, thins out enemy tails/vanguards, and (most importantly) is good for our morale towards the end of the night when people are getting tired and feel like our "practice" against big zergs is hopeless. I also feel like when we are dramatically outnumbered and don't have a great class composition at the end of the night, we might do better practicing our flirting/culling rather than sticking with our stack/bomb/restack routine since we just don't have the numbers/fields/blasts to sustain that kind of maneuver with any success.

Man so, crafting all disciplines up to 400 is STILL not enough to get my three current alts (Mesmer, Elementalist, Warrior) to

    SO QUESTION!

What's a good dungeon running build for each one of those? Especially Elementalist. With my Warrior I actually plan to use her almost entirely for jumping puzzles, but I figure I can work on my Dungeon Master achievement while leveling, too. Also, it'll be a good way to make back all that money I lost on the TP while crafting.

Like I said very early on, its technically craftable, but done in the worst way possible. Anet's decision to make certain combos craftable (ie with the original formula of using fine ingredients) and others not was terrible. Its sort of "loot-crafting" where the major component of the crafting isn't even crafted, but random chance salvaged out of gear you have to grind tokens for. Maybe there's a profit in it, last I checked Soldier's incriptions/insignias were over 3g each, and the corresponding crafted exotic armor/weapons were about 3g as well. If there's a profit, it must be slim.

But I'm not talking about crafting for profit, just for basic gearing. I hate how Anet has put such a wall on just a few types of gear and not others. Of course, this really gets back to GW2's terrible itemization scheme.

I'm gonna cut down on "practice" vs. big zergs, I promise. I was tempted at north camp because HOPE was there with us but that whole thing never really came together. One thing that happens is that I'm hungry for fights but finding TC and SoS groups with less than 25-30 people is sometimes rare right now. Otherwise it's only pugs, which are too easy. My ideal fight for us would be 15 or so of us vs. a guild group of 20. The only fight like that I can remember on Monday is 13 of us vs. a STUN group of about 20 at vale camp. We lost but that was actually good practice I thought - we lasted through several pushes. Just hard to find fights like that.

Also, I wasn't the only one that noticed the difference in having a staff ele vs. not having one.

I will also tentatively approve controlled squirrel chasing when our numbers are 10 or below, as a way of culling the herd. But when we chase, we'll chase together.

    Also, good news everyone!

    500px-GoodNewsEveryone.jpg

I'm happy to report that Operation: Get Everyone to Play Guardian has been a success. My crazy dream was to pull off a two-guardian-per-party class composition, and now we've either had that or nearly had it for three Mondays (I believe) running, and we've had a good guardian number for Wednesdays and Fridays too. So for MEAN I'd like to start making use of Guardian hammer - if we have two Guardians in a party, I'm hoping one will be Greatsword/Staff and the other will be Hammer/Staff.

This'll give us an additional immobilize, Hammer's tasty low-cooldown blast finisher, and blink squad. Blink squad is when a guardian hits hammer 5 and then immediately hits judge's intervention. Judge's intervention doesn't interrupt the hammer 5 animation, and causes the guardian to teleport to the enemy, finish the hammer swing, and trap one or more bad guys inside the bubble, perfect for bombing. So if you're a guardian, consider taking a hammer along in addition to greatsword and staff. The build is exactly the same, except your utilities will be the usual two shouts + judge's intervention.

Also, I don't remember if I mentioned this before, but I've been having MEAN guardians use sanctuary but we haven't really been doing anything with it lately. Feel free to swap sanctuary for purging flames.

I like the ele changes, don't like the Mesmer vigor trait nerf but apparently they want to reduce vigor across the board. I bet there'll be complaints about the warrior's healing signet getting nerfed. Guardian's healing breeze gets what looks to me like a buff (for healing allies at least).

The rune and sigil changes don't have details, just say they'll be changed. I bet the boon duration combo stops working. Arg.

I need to figure out a look for my plant woman. I have relatively normal-looking (for GW2) metallic grey armor on her now. I like it because it looks like a function-over-form thing, like she's geared up for fighting rather than looks. But I should add something, I just don't know what yet.

I just want to be able to wear the city clothes in combat.

re: lanes, yes, each "spoke" is a lane

re: mobs, you're supposed to stop them from getting to the glowing red portal at the top of each lane. IT is tower defense because MOST lanes have golems, seige, and barricades to help you do this. If your lane isn't building these things, they are being dumb.

*e* On an unrelated note! My new favorite tumblr.

Couple days late replying to this (had to make a work trip and was away for a day), but ... you were being short? I didn't interpret it that way. I thought you were trying to be helpful.

Look, I'm old. I'm nearly 50 (I'll be 48 this year) and if age has taught me anything, it is that when I can't understand something, that MY problem, not a problem with the thing that is confusing me. So when other people react in a way that suggests I may me deficient for not getting something, I'm right there with them agreeing how I'm a complete idiot for not getting it.

    Usually, we're both right.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I "won" a marionette event last night. Having a better understanding of what was actually going on made the experience almost bearable. I'm not going to go so far as to say it was "fun", but I didn't feel like it was a chore to get though.

The way the describe these everytime makes it sound like they're only thinking about sPvP. I know its not entirely, but they really just need to split that part of the game off entirely - the methods and goals of esport do not make for an interesting character skill system.

As for pushing for rune sets - what's the point. If you're meant to have the full set, just make it a single rune that slots only into the chest with all the bonuses.

What I like about marionette is the difficulty level. It's tricky but doable, and requires some strategy but isn't overly complicated.

What I don't like is that it's a huge map-wide event. That sort of thing can be cool but it's not my preferred type of content.

I am however looking forward to Edge of the Mists. Finally a new WvW map, took'em long enough. And against all odds I now am a little interested in just WTF Scarlet is up to.

Re: Current event. I actually find myself enjoying the latest event more than other events. Maybe its because I don't care that much about winning it, but I enjoy the challenge and the tense moment when you are inches away from failing but also inches away from succeeding. Its kinda like WvW in that way. Winning isn't assured, and the unknown is a bit thrilling.

  • kafzielkafziel Registered User regular
The scaled nature of success - the difference between eking out the victory at the last second and not doing so is pretty minor, a tier 4 chest instead of a tier 5 - makes it a lot more interesting, too. If this was a binary event that you either won or failed, it would be unimaginably irritating.

Or the opposite. Being able to go 3/6 while you work your way up to 6/6 means you get partial benefits early. And then you also always do have the option of mixing and matching.

  • YougottawannaYougottawanna Registered User regular
I kind of liked the mixing and matching options, and the runes vs. ruby orbs as raw stats vs. other benefits decision. I get why they're doing the sigil changes, but not the rune changes. I don't recall anyone complaining about armor runes.
