I haven't given much direction to our necros, but here's a reader's digest version of how to integrate well with what we're doing. First, necros should consider themselves backline when using staff and frontline when using death shroud or dagger/warhorn. When using plague you're frontline but you have license to stray from the melee stack. You'll have a ton of health and you'll be constantly blinding and poisoning people - if possible, keep pressure on the bad guys and don't let them restack in peace. Your poison will also disrupt their healing.

About wells: you have a trait that'll give protection to allies when you drop a well - however, it only works if you drop the well on top of us, not if you drop it in front of us and then we run into it. So if possible try to drop wells on the melee stack as we're bombing. Also, most wells are light or dark fields so try not to drop them when we're restacking to blast water. If we drop a big water field when we bomb however, feel free to drop wells too. There'll be lots of combo fields down anyway, and blasting dark is area blindness which we like.

Putrid mark is a blast finisher but it has to be triggered by an enemy. So it's good to drop on a bomb.

In the past I've told necros not to fear people out of bombs. For the moment I'm backtracking on that; I think the danger of necros fearing too many people out of the bomb is pretty low. Fear when you think is best. Also, feel free to drop well of corruption even though it turns stability into fear. It'll disrupt the enemy offense.

I've had a few thoughts about my well necro in WvW. Maybe they'll help you, maybe not.

    1. Drop Well of Blood (the healing well) on frontline right before hitting the enemy. This gives some incidental healing as well as protection to our team. Yay team!

    2. Wells using ground targeting is so clutch, it should be required. Dropping a blind well on the enemy nukers is pretty awesome. In that regard, necro should always attempt to stay very close to the frontline, to allow for dropping the well directly into the enemy bomb. Having chill on blind is also nearly required, since not only does it mess up anyone hit, but it also provides protection to your other conditions.

    3. There isn't enough time to drop all my goddamn wells. :P Coordination between necros might be a good thing, if we get enough. If, for example, we had 3 necros, one can drop Blood on our frontline, one drop Corruption on their frontline, and one dropping blind on their bombers. Necros are hardy enough to stand in the frontline for a bit, and can move to a more backline position after the first regroup.

    4. I've been testing out different times to pop Death Shroud for the largest effectiveness. I've found that slightly after the initial frontline hit is a good time, because you'll have a chunk of condition removal on cooldown, and can Torment the enemy with good effectiveness.

    5. I believe most fears have a 5-target max. So in large zerg vs. zerg, there's really no reason not to use it. However, in smaller scraps, it might not be a good thing, since keeping them tight and stuck in our bomb is a good thing. Dunno, I don't have a lot of fear in my kit, so I don't have a lot of experience. However, dropping Staff 5 at the beginning of a zerg is definitely a good thing, since it will disrupt (up to) 5 enemies.

    6. I'm not entirely sold on "wells pulse healing". The healing amount isn't that large, so I'm not sure if it's really doing anything worthwhile. I might respec out of it and see how things go.

    Hm.

If we have three Necros, should we call wells when we hit the zerg? Maybe assign ourselves in order? I don't usually bring Well of Blood myself because Consume Conditions is such a great way to thwart enemy necros and Engineers.

Well, in that sense, only one necro really needs to run Well of Blood. I personally like it, since I'm well spec, so it's got a shorter cooldown, grants prot, and regens health for me. But if you're not well spec, it's not as good as Consume. So, between 3 necros, one can run Blood and the other 2 Consume (or whatnot, though if you're running something other than Consume or Blood I shoot you in the faec).

Not sure if specifically calling "wells" is important, as the timing on all of them is about the same, when the zergs hit each other. So, you could probably bundle it with Static calls or something. I dunno, I ain't no commander, I don't worry about that crap. :P

    1. Yeah, ground-targeted wells are in the MEAN build.
    2. Backline casters should always stay within 1200 or closer of the frontline regardless of class. Chill is great because it ignores stability too, which makes Chillblains a good bombing skill. I should've mentioned that.
    3. There's no rush, if it's a competitive fight we'll be bombing more than once and you'll have a chance to drop all your wells. Just drop them on the melee ball to get protection uptime good.
    4. Sounds good.
    5. Agreed
    6. With the MEAN spec I'm sticking with the direct damage one for now. We already are hovering around two guardians in every party plus water fields, I'm now looking for damage moreso than healing.

Edit: about wells, right now I don't think we need to call them out. They're all useful, so just drop them when we bomb. When you chill on anything calling out "chill" might be worthwhile though.

This is what I'm considering respeccing to. It's more damage + control, well-focused. Basically, what I'm using now, just with a few changes to increase damage.

A couple points might shift around, depending on how useful retal in DS is. This isn't really DS focused at all, but there really isn't a much better place to put those last 10 anyways, so it might be useful.

In big fights, warriors are slightly more useful. But it's not like rangers are useless. Bring the one you like. Also, you don't have to be level 80 to WvW. If you're lower level they'll uplevel you to 80. Just make sure your gear isn't too far below your level.

Don't worry about being useful, we're very casual and the most we ever really ask of folks is that they get in Teamspeak and pay some vague attention to what Mojo is saying. ;) You may also hear Yougottawanna talking to his tryhard team (MEAN), but don't worry, that's directed at a subset of folks and doesn't apply to you unless you want it to. The rest of us are not remotely hardcore and will not have any expectations.

If you want advice on how to do stuff, that's definitely a thing, but if you just want to figure out what's going on and see if you enjoy WvW, then just show up and follow the group. :) WvW provides decent XP for a leveling character, so just bring whatever.

Thanks Monday WvW'ers! It was pretty much just a havoc group, but we held out in garrison vs. two big TC zergs for a long time. Also, fun fact, when I checked TCBL after garrison it was almost all green. So our guys were flipping TC's stuff while we held out at garrison.

Next up, Wednesday wuvs, which I'm hoping Cheryl can run(?). There's gonna be birthday shindig Wednesday night so it might be good to adjust the start time accordingly.

Also, tomorrow is the edge of the mists patch. If WvW is up anytime that night I'll be checking it out, feel free to join. Like Sage said everyone is welcome to WvW guild events. Don't worry about your class or level.

Also also, Blood Lottery is this coming Friday, February 7th. Want to get 25 gold, 10 black lion keys, or a mystery box? Check the spoiler below for details.
    Attention NICE!

As I'm sure you all know, February is WvW awareness month. Every day, literally hundreds of TC and SoS players die in the Mist War - which is not nearly enough. Nor is it enough to sit back and say "someone else will kill them." We have a personal responsibility to contribute our time and talents - as Gandhi said, "we must be the change we wish to see in World vs. World."

So this month, to raise awareness, I'll be wearing a red ribbon in the shape of FABL Garrison, and I hope you will too. I'll also be hosting...

Yougottawanna's Off-Brand Blood-like Substance Lottery: Wuv Free or Try Hard

Friday, February 7th beginning 7:30 EST (4:30 Pacific)

Blood Lottery works like this: every time you kill someone in WvW, there's a chance an item called "Badge of Honor" will drop. Whoever gets the most badges during the time period wins their choice of three prizes. Whoever wins second and third gets second and third choice. This is a me-funded event, so officers are eligible. The prizes are:

    25 gold

    10 black lion chest keys

The mystery box. What's in it? Who knows. It could be THOUSAND GOLD (though it probably won't be). It could be an abstract concept, like "kindness." It could be Marcellus Wallace's soul. You won't know until you open it.

So show up! Even if you're never WvW'ed before. All badges raised by the blood lottery will go towards funding research to figure out how to get TC to come out of their stupid towers.

So, help me out here... How do you measure how many badges a given player acquires? I've been paying attention and my badges go directly to my bank/currency, without ever hitting my inventory. I count bags, but usually don't have time to check to see how many badges drop, not to mention that they also come from rank-ups during wuvwuv...

I believe someone datamined or something a drum too? Where did I hear that?

Also, EoTM description (copy-pasted, formatting may be weird):
Introducing the Edge of the Mists

A brand-new section of the Mists has been uncovered for players to battle in.
This new WvW map will always be available and, unlike existing WvW maps, is able to create overflow instances. This means players no longer have to wait to play WvW, regardless of the number of players attempting to play.
The map can be entered from the WvW UI screen or from Lion’s Arch.
All European worlds will be matched up with one another in the Edge of the Mists. All North American worlds will be matched up with one another as well.
Worlds will be matched according to which color they are in the current WvW matchup. For example, all green worlds will be on the same team in the Edge of the Mists.
There are nine special objectives in the Edge of the Mists, each with a different boss to defeat and bonus for capturing and holding.
    The Overgrowth Region
Altar: Defeat the elementals guarding the altar to capture it. Once the altar is captured, players can power it up to gain an immunity boon.
Observatory: Defeat the three grawl tricksters to capture the observatory. Once captured, players can purchase a sentry turret that will mark enemies on the map.
Statuary: Defeat the stoneworker to capture the statuary. Once captured, players can use the supercannons to bombard enemies.
    The Frostreach Region
Forge: Defeat the smith to capture the forge. Once captured, players can craft Koda’s Hammer, a bundle weapon.
Bell Tower: Defeat the bell ringer to capture the bell tower. Once captured, players can ring bells throughout the Frostreach region to summon Spirits of Koda to defend the area.
Shrine: Defeat the Voice to capture the shrine. Once captured, players can summon the Claw to patrol the Frostreach region.
    The Badlands Region
Workshop: Defeat the mechanic to capture the workshop. Once captured, players can purchase a mechanical siege devourer transformation.
Airport: Defeat the pilot to capture the airport. Once captured, players can purchase air-strike items to call down remote air strikes on enemies.
Wurm Tunnel: Defeat the wurm to capture the tunnel. Once captured, players can use wurm tunnels on the map to travel across great distances.
There is an additional new objective type in the Edge of the Mists: Reactors.
These objectives are guarded by one creature and, when held, will provide additional supply at specific objectives.
Building generators at each reactor will increase the size of the supply deliveries.
Each region has a tower and a keep associated with it.
Each keep has a specific bonus that accrues for the team holding it when they capture and hold other objectives in that region.
    Overgrown Fane (Overgrowth Region)
For each objective held in the Overgrowth region, players will receive an increasingly powerful buff.
    Arid Fortress (Badlands Region)
For each objective held in the Badlands region, automated turrets will be activated in the area to defend against invaders.
    Thunder Hollow (Frostreach Region)
Each objective held in the Frostreach region will increase the strength of snowfall in the area, which impedes invaders.
The Edge of the Mists resets every 4 hours, and the score from the map does not affect the score for the current WvW matchup.
Victorious worlds in the Edge of the Mists will receive a supply drop in their home borderlands map upon victory in the Edge of the Mists.
A new, permanent achievement group has been added to the WvW achievement category for the Edge of the Mists.

Sounds cool... I'll be on starting at about four probably and if EoTM is up by then I'm definitely gonna check it out.

Also, one of the new WXP skills, datamined, "assault mastery": "Gain buffs when killing players and send them back to their base"... May be the end of corpse scouting, and possibly the end of zombie squad.

    Huh.

You could do some serious damage on that map if you were a properly spec'd elementalist.

Also those poor, poor geese. Apparently it takes 50% more XP to level, you get 15% of a level for a dungeon. Don't unlocked downed state until Level 10, Wubwub until 35, friggin SPvP until 45?!

    what even

Guild Wars has always been a game with a big PvP focus. Why the heck would they lock PvP for any amount of time??

I heard somewhere that Anet has to go through a Chinese publisher to release the game there, and it was the new publisher that wanted the changes. Asian market has a higher tolerance for grind I'm told.

Here's a very quick and dirty attempt to make an Edge of the Mists specific specc'd Necromancer designed primarily to fear the shit out of people constantly. I don't know if increased condition duration affects Fear, but if it does, most Fears on this build last about 1.6 seconds, which is pretty long for a Fear.

    Other features:

    > 3 dedicated sources of Fear; spectral wall, reaper's mark, and doom
    > Fear triggers: 5% chance on being hit, whenever you get CC'd, whenever you are downed, if someone is using Stability and you drop Well of Corruption on them
    > Additional fun stuff: Flesh Golem launches foes, Epidemic can be used to spread Fear if you can cast it fast enough (but that might be hard as you literally have to hit it as soon as Fear triggers on someone)

Is this effective? No idea! But it could be fun?

yea but.... they went and dumped gasoline on that fire by stating in the reddit thread that an announcement was coming about these changes in respect to the us and that leveling was being reworked.

A simple "thats for china, they like grindy games" would have sufficed. Now people are all like..... wtf do those crappy changes have to do with that statement?

Just looked at the calendar. Looks pretty bare. Is there anything going on tonight? I feel like I might get on for a bit if anyone is willing to do something. I wouldn't mind some roaming WuV or dungeons.

The funny thing is a lot of Chinese players are not happy that their version of the game is so needlessly different.

Which is really just proof that marketing people have no idea how to make any sort of creative product (which is what this is, marketing department meddling).

That, and apparently the removal of bone-themed stuff has less to do with Chinese culture and their treatment of death, and more to do with government censorship; it's like American censoring of sex scenes, in that while there's some people who will pearl-clutch, as a whole we're a bunch of goddamned grownups.
