Another thing is, I was trying to barrel roll and I obviously don't understand it. I hold A or D for left/right ailerons and I just roll over. When I incorporate W or S for up/down elevators, my planes starts spazzing out. Obviously I need to re-watch the posted videos. Again.
Spazing out how? When I barrel roll, I don't use only keys. I probably use them only for roll.
Mouse up, initiate roll with A or D, and then basically use my mouse to spiral around while maintaining the roll.
If you use the keys only, the aircraft will try to return to the center of your screen (where your mouse it pointed).
Sorry if spazzing is not the correct word. I would try to roll with my ailerons and go up with the elevators and that would result in wild movements of my crosshair (which is to be expected).
When I would try to roll with the ailerons and my mouse, I would roll too quickly (like approximately 1 second for a full rotation) so the mouse would have no or little effect. This might be a case where I need to play with my mouse sensitivity and do a lot of test flights.
To be honest, this is 99% probably my inexperience with these types of games, and I need to fine tune things.
I have purchased the Steam and Ace packs (both on sale). The Ace pack is crazy good for 10,000 Golden Eagles alone, which will allow you to add more crews so you can have more planes available to you when you fly out. I think I have 6 planes for each nation. I also upgraded to experience gunners for my B-25 and Wellington and a few others (that I can't remember off the top of my head) and I still have ~2,000 GE's left.
What's the criteria for getting an assist in this game, BTW? There are lots of occasions where I'll pour machine gun fire into someone, rack up some hits, and then someone will come in and blow it up, and I get nada.
I think it has to do with timing. Like you have 60 (wild guess) seconds for the target to go down for you to get the assist. So if you rake the target and someone kills them 61 seconds later, you get zilch.
Also double check that you don't have bonuses turned off in the UI settings.
I'm pretty sure it's based solely on whether or not you got a critical hit and the plane eventually goes down completely before repairing (i.e. nothing if he returns to base, repairs and then gets shot down again). Or if he crashes a long while later without anyone shooting at him (but I only base this on me being shot and losing control surfaces - which I assume are crits for my attacker - and then crashing near the runway or out in the boonies like a minute later ...and my attacker not being credited).
I've also discovered that I am great at 500 m convergence and terrible with 400 m convergence. Now if only my planes would stop randomly switching it to 400.
Takes place this Saturday (matches will be published later by Gaijin)
Tier 3 max, No Premium Planes, Best of 3 for each round.
Should you need a biplane, count me in!
@Nija
If you use the elevators with the default "Simplified" control scheme, the asshole instructor will try to pull up in relation to the ground, not up in relation to the airplane. You have to change the control scheme, turn the instructor off as much as possible, and only use the elevators if you're in a 90 degree banked turn, otherwise that fucking goose will try to go up.
Thank god those engineers finally figured out how to saw off those pontoons and put down wheels on, this zero is nice.
For extra points, one of my first realistic matches was against the Russians (which I have never had a win against) we managed to pull if off without a single loss.
T2
Fighter - This one is hard. The Spit IIb is awesome but I can't shoot with it. The Ki-61 otsu flies how I like but it's guns are meh. So I'll probably just say the Me109F1 (don't have the F2 yet)
Heavy Fighter - Beaufighter (Ki-45 Ko close behind)
Bomber - Ju88
Attacker - IL-2

Two observations. This Premium Mustang is very nice to fly. Handles like a dream.
Second, Unlocked the P-38. Having two engines on this fighter is sure interesting. Twice now I've lost an engine and still gotten back to an airfield.
The Lightning is such a gigantic pile of shit. It can't pitch, it can't roll, the only thing it can do is dive. And it doesn't outdive anything in Arcade because lol Arcade, and since it can't climb particularly quickly either, it doesn't have an energy advantage either way.
It's also comically fragile and catches on fire as soon as you get anything even close to it.

The Spitfires are a bit tricky. When you shoot a target at range, you're best to agitate it with the MGs. Get them to manoeuvre, to lose speed. When you get close, open up with the canons.
What's important here is that you either fire the MGS or the canons. Spitfires suffer from quite a bit of recoil, it seems, when firing both. Only when you get really close should you give them everything you've got.
Also keep to short bursts, prolonged fire will only make the recoils worse (this also goes for other lightweight fighters, btw)

So I tried KBaM and decided it was horrible, and went back to gamepad for a while. Then I got sick of my planes listing lazily to the left/right, even on Simplified controls / Arcade mode. I watched a few videos... and I guess I was using the wrong mouse controls? I setup the one that was basically Freelancer, and I feel like I'm cheating here. I mean, really, my German starter planes wouldn't even descend when using the gamepad if I was above a certain speed, but now I'm the goddamn Red Baron. Now I just need thousands upon thousands of research points.

I am now thinking of dogfighting in terms of introducing enemy pilots to Chopin, or letting Ol' Joanna sing to them.

Different brackets for each Tier?
Do all 4 have to fly the same country? What FM (arcade)?
Is it just a dogfight? Or are ground targets also included?
What is everyone's opinion on the best T3? The I-185?

Sadly, I don't have anything T3 worth flying.

Sounds nice! Does sending it on holiday (whatever retiring it is called) set your MM back to normal?
I just switched the plane for a lower one and was ranked lower accordingly.
THE KV-DERP LIVES!
Me personally (only 1-2 since I don't have any experience in the later tiers):
T1
Fighter - F2A3
Heavy Fighter - Bf110c4

Favorite, most effective, what ever you want.
You say that like you're surprised!
I suspect WT will be missing one thing I'll miss from WoT--having a visibly pimped-out and distinguishable Stug III with the Panther's 75 mm.

When attempting to use its guns, you gotta engage combat flaps.

Tier 2 fighter....Hmmm....
I knew your answer before you even saw my post.
I didn't know the Rift came with a giant mock cockpit!
EDIT: And the whole point of the Rift is that it 3Ds everything so why the TriDef?
There appears to be a whole lot of unnecessary shit in that rig.

Product placement and sponsorship. Cash is king.
Pulling the trigger will slow your aircraft.
It was my 2nd method for slowing/landing the Ki-43 on an carrier (first being a somersault and the third being pure boss).
That's probably all it is. Half the garbage in that rig is made obsolete by using the Rift. Oh yeah, it's definitely there. It's not that noticeable with smaller guns but fire a big bore cannon and you'll absolutely notice it.
Alt text: fuck tail gunners.

Bomber interception and ground interdiction.
You can also try zooming through furballs while leaning on the trigger but that doesn't seem to produce the desired results.
