first day there was so foggy and the water was choppy though so the ride over you could see NOTHING but grey, and when i got off of my amtrak at new london to get on the ferry i could see nothing of the town of new london, just greyness and a vague outline of a boat near the train tracks which was eerie and cool
but the boat swayed and there was no horizon and almost everyone reached for a barf bag
weather cleared up and was lovely for wedding though and the ferry ride back was lovely
also the wedding was near this weird farm thing that had alpacas and llamas and kangaroos and a yak and a zedonk and a giant tortoise and giant rabbit and mini horses and things
i had so much fun tho

That's gorgeous! Who knew, Rhode Island? I freakin love the northern Atlantic. Best ocean is best.
I guess I was somewhere pretty okay too though

How to beat jetlag going west to east; don't go to bed early, no matter how tempting it is. Last month I had to fly from Calgary to London and needed to be in can-work-competently state the next day; plane landed at 11, I dumped stuff at hotel and went walking around the area / Hyde Park / etc until my legs gave out. Had dinner, went to bed ~10:30, woke up next morning at 7 and everything was fine -- my legs were tired, but no jetlag to speak of at all.

That llama owns bones
I made it to 4:30 after putting on an episode of Lights Out to lull me to sleep
It doesn't help that I'm almost incapable of straight eight when I'm not jetlagged to hell but at least I got a patchy six and change. With like a two hour block of wakefulness between.

I'm back from a 2 week vacation through Europe! Saw a bunch of amazing cities: Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Rome, Amalfi/Salerno, Santorini Islands, Athens, Kusadasi, Mykonos Island, Dubrovnik (Kings Landing!), Venice, through 6 countries. Our return flight home through London was delayed until the next morning, so I even got to experience watching the England/Italy match in a pub there! The people, food, everything was absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to go back.

Frugal living at just barely above the poverty line for five years. Although that's changed since I've gotten my new job. I should be able to afford to move to Japan permanently early next year... which is good since my job requires it.
That seems like a lot for two weeks! Sounds awesome.
As a disclaimer, my sense of "distances in Europe" is totally broken from having grown up in a country 2500 miles across.
It was a lot, and I do wish I had been able to spend more time in each city. This was on a long Mediterannean cruise, and it was a very different experience than any vacation I've been on. There are definite pluses for traveling this way, like waking up and seeing a different city/country outside your door every morning was amazing. However, you were only allowed to see each city for 8 - 9 hours before you had to be back on board, to sail to your next destination.
Hope you're having a great time!

So for some unknown to me and yet still amazing reason. @Damoonrulz just gifted me with a gift card for use on Amazon and Kindle books. So that I will not become bored upon the train.
In my gratitude I have quickly knocked several books off of my "want to buy but will likely never spend the money myself" list of cheap and mostly nostalgia filled romance novels.
Oh yes, The Moon God is revered on this night, and on many nights hence.
flew back from sweden with a head cold, and one of my ears never popped after landing. My tube must be all blocked up. Still sick. Worried that I might have an ear infection or something. Nuts.
Had a great day today - walked around a whole bunch, visited the Museum of Archeology and then Christchurch on a whim, saw lots of really old awesome things, had strong Italian coffee that no amount of milk could lighten, walked across Butt Bridge because how could we not, and hilariously managed to get a very mild sunburn, because "haha yeah we're totally not going to need sunblock in Ireland". The weather has been incredible.
And now battling the tail end of jet lag by trying to fall back asleep for a huge full-day tour in 5.5 hours that will take us to the North to exciting things!

... though I guess I have the same perspective, really. But I've lived here a while!
As expected, not sure it'll be enough to get me to sleep through some jet lag - too pumped.
how do you finance your travel?

I really turned my life around when I stopped working for the man and started working for the weekend.
It taught me that every body needs a second chance.
Powerful stuff.
Hope you're having a great time!

Yes
I didn't go to the birthplace of cologne in Cologne though. So mostly it smelled like a city. Coffee, exhaust, baked goods, stale pee.

I now have insurance and return tickets to Americas.
Guess which cost more.
Go on.
Guess.
