That goddam cathedral was the worst for me. I don't regret it at all, but the winding staircases managed to make me feel super claustrophobic and giddy from heights at the same time.
And then you get to the open bit, and it's that set set of scaffolding staircases to get up even higher, and there was a cross-breeze coming through, and yeah. Wasn't quite for me.
So my goal is to get a bag that comes to 60 when you add the three dimensions in inches, and keep the weight of bag + contents under 50lbs to avoid any extra fees, right?
If you're just going to the US, your baggage allowance is usually large enough that id say you'd have difficulty overpacking. And it's hard to get an outsize suitcase without deliberately shopping for one. What airline are you traveling? Where did you get that info?
@Fyndir Unless you go out of your way to buy a GIANT bag I wouldn't worry about the bag size. In all my years of working at the airport I've only encountered a few bags that were oversized.
The weight is more important. Keep in mind that if you get a large bag it's going to weigh more, so you won't necessarily be able to bring more with a larger bag.
Weigh the bag at home if you can, and make sure the bag isn't touching the ground when you weigh. I can't tell you how many people have over packed their bag because they didn't realize the scale wasn't taking its full weight.

Protip - get a sports bag. They weigh fuck-all, as opposed to most travel cases that don't cost $Texas, which weigh a few kilos all by themselves.

I've taken bouldering mats on board a plane before and they're, 60inches in one direction alone. (That's a tiny bit different as it is sporting equipment) but you just check it in as oversized and 99% of the time they are cool with it.
Then I heap it into some plastic trays and shunt it through the carry-on scan. The real hassle is putting it together again. Bad enough when you just have to haul your shoes back on.

The downside to those are having to carry the weight around instead of rolling it, and make sure the shoulder strap is detachable. When those get caught in a belt loader it gets ugly and fast.
I got a very lightweight duffle with wheels, for long trips. I can carry it or pull it with minimal effort.
My work travel bag is a combo backpack and trolley, it's older, smaller and heavier than my duffle but easier to carry if I've got both hands full with other crap (robots).
There's also the "Asian Student Bag". It's like a duffle bag, but with a hard bottom and six free moving wheels. They're ALWAYS overweight and it's a huge pain in the butt every spring and fall when we get the influx/outflux of students from Korea/China

Yeah. Imagine you have a military duffle bag. Stand it upright. Bolt on a hard plastic base to it. Now put three tiny wheels on the front and three tiny wheels on the back of that base. the wheels can move in 360 degrees.
Now stuff that bag with 80 pounds of clothes and food.
Dammit, @sarukun, I just had a craving for Cuban Sandwiches. What have you done to me?!

I didn't make it to Stonehenge for the solstice on Friday. Which is lame because they had the best sunrise in about ten years. Oh well, I guess I'll go in 2024
Last day in Ireland today - just got back from a tour around the Ring of Kerry, which was incredible. Sad to leave tomorrow but happy to get back to the states. Photo's forthcoming! We had an amazing time with an insane amount of luck with the weather.
@Fishman How are you at baking? I was thinking that if you really want a Cuban Sandwich, you could probably make your own, as none of the ingredients are particularly exotic.

Sketchy, but passable.I could possibly manage. What am I looking for?
I have a chance to maybe go to Germany this fall. Flights were expensive when I started looking but now I'm seeing $750 flights from San Francisco which is, like, really cheap.

It's an absolutely amazing view, though.

I agree with mom. If God wanted me on top of the Cathedral he'd give me wings. Until then, I'll appreciate it from the ground up.

Just trying to make sure I'm not being obviously stupid about what that all means before I go buy a bag.

Does the robot keep going back and taking parts off until there is nothing left; just a puzzled security guard and a pile of pieces?

That's clearly not in London, did you get on the wrong train?
But it has given me the groundwork for at least two other vacations in the future

That is cause for stabbing, I think.

From there:
Roast Pork
Glazed Ham
Swiss Cheese
Pickles
Mustard-and-mayo mixed spread.
Pork will probably be the hardest thing to find, the bread will take the longest to make. I recommend you get freshly sliced ham at a deli.
Downside is the flights are on US Airways

Also, doesn't matter, since my boss just shot the idea down. Ah well.
