I'm trying to swap out some free agents for some of the TI qualifer teams... can't decide whether to hedge my bets on some Roxkis team members or some Power rangers. My fantasy league seems to have snapped up a lot of the really obvious picks.
Man I just can't win as a carry. Randomed AM and things are going ok against a solo centaur with disruptor supporting me Then Disruptor leaves to make some good rotations and I am against a centaur with two levels on me and I get murdered by a stomp double edge ult combo and things just spiral out since disruptor doesn't come back. And the other team starts rotating people down to mess with me more and late game arrives and my team bitches cause I have no farm.
Its like what do I do? I can't farm jungle cause they ward and have huge mobility and a nyx. I try to get lane clears and SF razes em all. I just dunno how I was supposed to get farm at that point.
AM requires a decent amount of babysitting, especially against a centaur. In general, when a support rotates and leaves you alone vs a solo lane you are at a pretty big disadvantage because the solo will have a bunch of levels on you.
Personally I've never really been able to get AM to really 'click' for me. I have a really bad feel for when I can be aggressive with him (other than ultra late game when there's no stopping you).
End up getting first blood on Drow. And do well in team fights. Kill a few with my deathward. We actually start pulling a come back. Get them down to tier 3 towers. Almost take a rax. Then Earthshaker turns on team win mode.
Multiple team clearing echo slams. Fight winning stuns. Team wasn't the smartest either. Walking into the enemy when they are visible on the map from my wards. Diving and chasing people across the map. It wasn't pretty. Also poor lane choices. DoTA with pubs is another game.
Then played RAD. Because why not? Got Kunkka. My pipe smoking captain got fissure, strength steal from undying, aftershock and dismember. I got first blood in like 2 minutes on a necro in mid. I absorbed tons of fire, got some good stuns. Best moment I baited their entire team into a fissure, dismember stun session which lead to a boat and my team cleaning up. It was pretty.
Fun to play rad every once and a while.

Goddamn I just took a really bad spanking in a match.
Wraith King, Pugna, Invoker, Viper, and Disruptor on the enemy team (WK was the only one not a part of their party). Here's how fights would go - because of our lack of wards (BAD SUPPORT) Invoker would tornado and mana bomb us. Also allowing Disruptor to cage us. Also allowing Pugna to bomb us. And then Viper and WK would clean house / chase people running away. People who had no mana.
If I'm playing against a pudge mid, sometimes I buy wards as soon as the second set comes in stock. Pubs love to use the really obvious ward locations, which aren't always that useful in helping you survive the night against a pudge.
I have a sneaking suspicion Valve surreptitiously scaled back the end of match awards, usually in a ~40 minute game at least 4 people pop something, now it's maybe 2. And compendium point drops have stopped all together. I'm thinking all those hyper leveled comps are hauling in too many items.

AM has a pub win rate in the region of 40%, so I wouldn't feel too bad losing with him.
Your very late game carries like am can be strong but require more support from your team then you're likely to get in a pub match.
Carries like lifestealer, ursa, gyro, pa, slark etc. you might have more luck with as they can do more than am can when you're not getting free farm, and are generally stronger in lane.

Oh I perfer other carries. But if I random I stick with it so I was stuck with AM. Just fustrating getting hung out to dry against a dude who wrecks non-farmed AM's face and having the team bitch about my lack of farm all game.
That is probably the most annoying this about playing carry yeah.
Anything thats not fighting constantly with the team is considered 'free farm all game', regardless of whether you've been abandoned to a hopeless situation or not.
Yeah for pubs, its' the reverse carry rule. The enemy team's AM will always get mad farm and destroy your team post 30 min., but on your team, you will never be protected enough to farm an AM successfully. Gotta pick either carries who can do a lot early on, like Luna and Gyro, or double up on semi-carries that will wreck the mid game.

I had an awesome game earlier this week, where my team's PA fell behind in levels. There was a three-man group that had queued in IIRC from looking at the teams afterwards, there was me, and the PA. The three man group was two supports and some carry. And they basically said to the PA: "Stop joining us for team fights. You'll only fall further and further back. We're going to put wards up in our jungle, and you just farm as fast as possible until you're ready. Don't worry about the towers. Just ignore the fights. Just farm hard, and we'll call you in when you're ready."
We ended up losing both bottom towers IIRC, and one of the mid towers, but when the PA hit L15 or so they deemed him ready, and told him to start owning face.
And he did! We pushed bot, and he basically wiped out the other team. We pushed mid, and he did it again. And then it was pretty much GG. I've never seen a PUG do that before, and it warmed my heart.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
Tried him out going mid in a bot match and he's a ton of fun. The micro is much easier then I expected too, just need a few more matches to get tabbing through the bears a bit smoother.
e: that group sounds pretty cool. It's always nice to remember that there are plenty of nice people playing for every rager.
Love how I am still exploring this game after almost a year of playing it. I have played two heroes today out of the small subset remaining that that I've never touched: Kunkka and Doom.
...I doomed a creep in the first teamfight. Not even joking.
You win some and you lose some. Honestly, I wouldn't let nights like tonight get to you. We did our best. Sure, we made a few mistakes, but I'm happy with a majority of our plays, hero choices, etc. I think we're all doing a pretty good job, overall.

Yeah I don't worry about it.
I have this feeling we jumped an mmr group or something. The play we are against is way better than I remember.
The fact we are having ward fights is a huge difference. The struggle to keep map vision is because there is an actual battle for it. I can't basically depend on my opponent on being idiots. Which means my play is getting better but it also means I feel like I hit a mountain to climb.

It's been happening to me all week. I'm playing against teams now that are substantially better than the ones I was playing against a week ago, and I feel really slow and useless every game.

I have ROX.KIS and Mouz on now. It is basically a captains draft mode. Huskar, Lina, Tusk, Skywrath already. This is going to be a blast to watch since the game really means nothing.
Just played Necrophos and went 16-1-16, it was amazing. Only downside was the Mirana on my team that I had to mute and report within 10 minutes due to his racist commends from the start.
Because if you're going to attempt to squeeze that big black monster into your slot you will need to be able to take at least 12 inches or else you're going to have a bad time...

I only did 4 of my 10 hero challenge. Just now I said "fuck it" and used my one-time reroll. Dragon Knight, Legion Commander, Morphling, Silencer, Bounty Hunter, and Spirit Breaker came up.

Fuck yes.
I have 4 done.
I have at least 3 others I like and know how to play so I am saving till I get them. That means at most I have 3 to do who I don't like.

Wait so am I pretty much going to end up sleeping through the European qualifiers? Son of a bitch.
I completed a centaur game earlier, but somehow it didn't count. I only have 3 out of 10 done, because apparently every single person in the world also has Axe and Dark Seer in their 10 heroes.

First was random draft.
I was Witch Doctor. The only support.
No one goes mid, so I go mid.

This has been most of my week.
Sometimes I feel like it was my play.
Other times I feel I am just watching the game and there ain't much for me to do.
And sometimes I feel like I am doing fine.
Yeah I don't worry about it.
