Daaaaamn, that's going to make choosing a class hard. Still so damned cool that your class can use any armor type and any weapon if you want to go that way.

Getting the log in error about my information being incorrect.
I know the server isn't going to be up until 12 but should I be worried about that? I'm logging into the forum fine.
Special abilities
Voice of the Emperor: calms nearby humanoids for 60 seconds.
Imperial Luck: anywhere gold might be found, Imperials always seem to find a few more.
Based on the page linked just a bit ago, it looks like 1 ultimate and 4 passives for each race, so..
Ultimate: Voice of the Emperor
Passives:
Bonus To Gold Drop Rate
Bonus to the Restoration magic tree / small (1%?) bonus to healing
... What else?
Edit2: What are the Undaunted? They have a guild skill tree that seems to be necromancy based?

The point in the first beta when this dawned on me was the point where everything clicked.
So for the class skills, how do the different trees work? Do you choose one, or can you pick and choose from the different ones? And do you just use a skill point to learn it and then you have it?

You can pick from any of them. But you need to level up that tree to get to them all. Intially you can only take one skill from a given tree by putting a skill point into it.
No open beta. If they decide to do a review embargo or refuse review copies, then that's going to set off a lot more of my red flags than already are. As it stands, I'm already locked in thanks to the preorder.

Since when was open beta a given? I've known many games that are invite/beta-key only until launch. Period.
And lets think about it, most people are getting in this beta since the large key giveaways anyway.
And this isn't in defensive of the game... but how could ANY review of a new MMO have any meaning at all? You can't get a proper look at an MMO until its populated with many people, launch day server lag/crowding is gone, you've hit max level, etc. I'm not talking ESO here, I'm talking about ANY MMO review that comes out give or take a few days of its launch.
Thinking people should be "scared" because they don't want people's knee-jerk reactions to be all over is not something to worry about.
Hell just look at the shit storm that happened when beta footage was leaked a long time ago. If I were them, I sure as hell would want to try and eliminate as much of that as possible. People find one or two things that they can complain about and then its "LOL f2P in 6 months"
We will not be holding a traditional open beta, but if you sign up to participate in the ESO beta prior to launch and are eligible per our Terms of Service, you will get an invite to a future beta event.
So they won't go "Today starts open beta, anybody interested download the client." But IMO "At some point prior to launch every person who has signed up for the beta will get an invite to a beta event" is more or less the same thing.
what do you mean execution based, as in how good the player is?
TESO is just tab targetting/hotbar combat like every other MMO with the autoattack bound to left mouse click
there will be builds that are clearly superior to others, that's just a fact, and people will figure out which those are
I'm going to assume you haven't played it then, since that description is drastically wrong.... tab targeting... haha.
Execution based means how you deal with the mechanics of an encounter. It means its not based on your healing/tanking/dpsing rotations being to a certain degree. Its not just a bunch of doods standing around kicking each other in the shins until the guy with the biggest boots wins.
There is no tab targeting in this game, and I'm not sure where you got the impression there was. By execution-based they mean timing blocks and dodges correctly, following the necessary sequence to take down boss fights in dungeons, etc.
And given that there's no cooldowns and most abilities are strong, but fire off maybe 3-4 times before you're out of that resource and need to wait for regen/potions/etc, it's more about managing those resources in the short-term and executing encounters correctly.

It's like WoW. Some groups of people are just able to down Algalon on their second try whereas there's other groups of people who are more geared who spent all day on Algalon. Or something.

It's TERA's combat system. With RIFT's, er, Rifts. :P
Edit: No Subtitles? Eh, I hope they fix that soon.
So, up until actually starting, I kept thinking the Prince behind everything was Mehrunes Dagon, for some reason (despite having read it was Molag Bal), and thinking "oh, boring, Oblivion all over again".
Character creation has an interesting foible. It doesn't check to see if the name is in use until after you finish creation, rather than when you enter the name. I have several character names that I use, but each one is "thematic" in that I will create a very different character class/look depending on what name I am going for. After I make my DPS warrior type, I try that name and when it's taken, I have to go back to square-one and re-create EVERYTHING including gender/look for my tanky warrior and try the next name... also taken. So I built my sneaky mage type and found that name taken as well... I was only able to devote about 20 minutes to it this morning before I had to go to work. Net result: no characters created.
I was (unpleasantly) surprised to find that all of my unique names are all "taken". These are character names that I created decades ago, not names from a fantasy/sci-fi novel or movie. That someone would choose those names is pretty unlikely.
(Also: only one name? No surnames? What is this, 2004?)

That's not even remotely true. TERA is infinitely more action based. Yes, there's a lot of stuff to dodge/block in ESO but ultimately it's not THAT much different from other MMOs in the combat department. You will still take damage regardless from mob auto attacks. You can't just be good enough to dodge everything as not everything is something you can dodge. All it is is looking for tells to know when to block/dodge like every other MMO has started to do. ESO just wraps it up and makes it look a little more actiony.
There's no "tab targetting" true, instead it has sticky mouseover targetting which serves the same purpose, you just have to keep the enemy somewhat centered when you attack.

So we get stiff once in a while. So we have a little fun. What’s wrong with that? This is a free country, isn’t it? I can take my panda any place I want to. And if I wanna buy it a drink, that’s my business.
Hmm... so far so good, until some quest dialog didn't exit out, leaving me locked into view of the quest giver... Could still pull up menu, so not a big deal.
The very limited skill set is interesting - trying 2h Breton Sorcerer atm... though really I've only spent points so far in class and armor skills. Sorcerer seems like you could rig up light-armor tanking with Daedra Summoning and Storm Calling to give you lots of extra armor and such, light armor to sustain magicka (so you can maintain Lightning Form, mainly), and then sword/shield for tanking skills.
Both of them sound disappointed, both of them basically saying "It feels too much like an MMO and not enough like an Elder Scrolls game."
I would say you have to accept that an MMO will feel like an MMO no matter what, but the problem with that is that the vast majority of the interest in this game is understandably going to be from Elder Scrolls fans, so if they feel it doesn't capture what they like about ES, then it's going to be a problem.
The 2nd half of the PC gamer video does have some positives they liked, such as the crafting.
Both pretty much boil down to: "Now that I've had a chance to try it for myself, I'm actually surprised. No really. I was all set to hate this thing, but it's not at all what I was expecting."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I kept trying my email instead of my username. Kinda weird how other MMOs have gotten me hooked about that.
Isn't the beta going to go live in like 2 hours, not 12? Or did I misread that.
Edit: Beta goes live in 1 hr 15 minutes from this edit, according to teh twitter.
Also, if you're on the fence, this is going to scare you:

Slow, but yes... Then again, its a stress test... sooo.... Chances are the char selection screen will be as far as I get for awhile.
Edit: Nvm, I'm in the prison. Go, people. Go!
Stuck loading past creation, but DAMN I like the creation options.

Will probably reroll. Nightblade isn't doing it for me, although I hear Dual Wielding Siphoning Nightblade is sick.
Kinda wish the Imperials were in the Beta, I'd like to see what they have going for them.
