WHAT IS NIDHOGG
The game begins in the center of a symmetrical map with two players with swords.
The goal of the game is to get to your opponent's "endzone". You know how in oldschool brawlers, when you kill the enemies you get a flashing "GO ->" arrow? In Nidhogg, you're fighting over possession of that arrow. You both have infinite lives, but only the person who scored the last kill can advance screens. When you die, you respawn along your opponent's path to try and kill them and push them back.
The moveset is ridiculously simple. Left/right to run, Up/down to adjust your sword between 3 positons, button to jump, button to attack. If you hold down, you crouch/roll (which can pick up dropped swords), if you hold up, you hold your sword over your head to throw it, and if you attack while jumping, you divekick. If you move your sword up or down into your opponents sword, you disarm them. That's it, that's the whole game.
But from simple seeds come amazing moments.

(that last one was from an older pre-release build, but too hype not to list it)
OKAY, YOU SOLD ME, NOW WHO CAN I STAB?
We have a steam group now thanks to Sokpuppet,

AFAIK it's open, so just add yourself and send friend requests to people.
WE SHOULD TOTALLY SET UP A PA TOURNAMENT BRACKET SOMETIME
I know, right? We totally should.

yeah, the few games I've been able to matchmake run the gamut of ridiculously easy to ridiculously awesome. At one point, a guy I was fighting threw his sword at the same time I threw mine, they bounced off each other, and we just fought barehanded for about 30s.

I'm down for some online play tomorrow probably. Going to get some practice in on bots for now.
Oh yeah. @raiden333 - steam name is Arcadebear

Yeah, the official tournament thing is local only. I figure once we have at least 8 people, we can start doing randomized weekly tournaments rolled in a google-doc, where it's best 2 out of 3 to move on (or whatever people vote for).
Memories: Trap your opponent on your sword for a long time while moving it up and down.
Prometheus: Run across your final screen in the castle with your sword cocked the whole time.
Bloodlust: 100 total kills in one match.
Steam: TheArcadeBear
Get Blade Symphony.
It dawns on me we should have a PA Nidhogg group, but I've never made/managed a steam group before. Anyone with experience with that?

It's a valid strategy. Stab and I were using it against each other earlier. The key is finding choke points and learning when to throw your sword.
Yeah, your goal is not to fight the other guy, your goal is to get to the end. If you can jump over a guy and get to the end, why bother fighting? It no longer helps you complete your goal. As a defender, you gotta figure out how to stop them from getting past you.
Having some Bruce Lee commodore 64 flashbacks looking at pictures of the game.
You are a hero.
Do you like fun?

yeah, I was getting the same bug with inviting people, glad to see it wasn't just me (@CorriganX =P). Joining via steam interface seems to work.
And yeah, some games are super laggy. Bummer, but more games are good than bad.
If you answered yes, then you are an excellent candidate for our worm food program!
1. Two games out of three. I'd also be open for best 3 of 5 if that's what people prefer.
2. First round of a matchup is on the default castle level. Each round after that is the choice of the loser of the previous round.
3. If one player is suffering a significant lag disadvantage against the other, it's up to those two players to work out a system where they can agree who won the matchup. We're all friends here, it's honor system.
I threw the event up at a random timeframe. Subject to change.
Works for me. We could even do it in a week-long format, where you have 1-2 days to do your match at a time convenient for both people, with the finals every weekend.
I need to figure out how to get my low bandwidth streamable.
Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
It has really high watchability for how simple it is.

I'm very ok with this.
Also, I am wonderfully amused at how the premise seems to be prisoners dueling to the death for the amusement of a crowd only to be devoured by Nidhogg at the end for their crimes. Assuming I'm interpreting the game design correctly. It absolutely can be. This is 100% mind games and footsies and since everyone has the same character it's automatically balanced.
