I just don't think I've ever been good enough to do progression stuff
I know for sure I aspired to it in BC when I was like a wee lad who did awful dps as a hunter even though I knew of the 1 button rotation all because I wanted to play survival hunter instead of BM or marksman
Well do I have good news for you:
A survival hunter consistently was among the top 3 DPS for most of our progression up to and including Illidan.

I did raid healing for the time I did serious raiding, and im terrible. Im sure you would be fine.
(come to Moonrunner, Moonrunner is where the cool people have characters)
who's all on there?
there's uh...me...and ceres...
That's about it, I think.
Are you horde or ally?
Horde, of course.
In other WoW news I finally got around to wandering my DK through all of Naxx (the first time I've done any of Naxx beyond the first couple of corridors of Plague for cloth farming).
Picked up a couple of transmogs I like, too, new chest, shoulders, and weapon.
No yeah, you don't have to be good to do progression raiding.
You just have to have a lot of time.
I think we raided Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 5pm to 11pm or some shit.
It was insane and dumb and ain't no no got time for that.
You don't need to be good to do progression raiding, but you do is you want to put in way less time per week and get through all bosses professed through in shorter time. I.e some guilds killed heroic Garrosh (now mythic) within a couple of months of Soo opening, some killed him in summer, some never.
With how clunky and awful mist weaving feels compared to the old ways I think I'm content to just tank and dps and never heal on my monk. But since healing is my jam, I'm going to have to make a fluffy druid healer or a fluffy panda healer. So shaman or druid, druid seems fluffier overall. And isn't ass in PvP.

Yeah.
I leveled my Monk to 90 as Brewmaster. When I hit max level I wanted to try different specs so I picked up Mistweaver and did all that. It was pretty neat but with the changes I just... I think might go back to Brewmastery. At the same time though I really like healing and I enjoy having some perspective on other healers so I'm rather conflicted.
we had a race on my server (Lothar) to be the first to actually engage the first boss and post a screenshot of it. That.. uhhh... didn't go so well.
I did think the whole thing was fun though. I enjoy the hell out of things breaking so incredibly badly in something so large scale.
holy shit you played on Lothar back in vanilla? so did I! small world.
This name comes from my first toon. Undead priest. It's still my main (although it wasn't for periods in Wrath and Cata). Still on Lothar. Still in my original vanilla guild from server creation (although we changed names in the spring of 2005 to our current name, <Hellscreams Rage>).
We had some good peeps on Lothar. Also some really good juicy drama. Do you remember the Mountain of Attention? Now I'm trying to go find that again.
I was alliance on Lothar during vanilla. I was in the top alliance guild on the server for about a week before deciding having to be available six nights a week for cutting edge raiding was fricking stupid and rerolled to join my roommate's horde guild on Dalaran which was also doing end game stuff but not quite on the same level of... dedication.
Back when it was <Might> ? Or <Casterly Rock>? Or <Damage> ?
I guess what I hate so much about the changes is that they aren't good for how the class plays, they're good for Blizzard. Now they can target crane stance as melee with boss mechanics, and now monk sphere healing and uplift aren't dominating in PvP. Then moving chi generation to Surging Mists makes Mistweavers care about mana again... but it sucks, it means we lost our flash heal and soothing mists is unsatisfying because it does not provide chi. Spinning crane kick doesn't do damage outside of fistweave which makes no sense with the visual and is way less cool, but I guess it makes it easier to balance.
Breath of the Serpent is cool and Chi Explosion is neat for fistweaving but both talents are not really worth taking.
I hope they realize how much less fun the spec is now and do something about it. Or maybe I'm just crazy and I need some kind of anti-blizz-forum-whiner injection.
I'm curious what sort of beta feedback they got, since that is usually the biggest influence players have for the entire expansion...any redesigning after is usually a lot smaller in scope
End on
I wish that someway, somehow, that I could save every one of us
it got infinitely clunkier with the cast time on uplift, and taking away soothing mists' ability to generate chi makes me never want to use it except for a delivery vehicle for surging mists. I didn't like their lack of good aoe heal before 6.0 either and that only got worse with uplift changes, now I have to spend huge chunks of mana on rushing jade wind
which isn't going to be viable once I have to worry about mana again at level 100

AHHH THE NOSTALGIA!
Might, yeah. I forget when they changed names.
On Dalaran I was in <PIE>, back before <Doom> basically absorbed every decent player from every other raiding guild and became the only place to raid on horde on the server.

I had a horde alt in Six Feet Under a long long time ago before most of them left for a pvp server

also im considering level boosting my hunter so i can main it in wod
so I just rolled a healer monk and then read all this you guys are the worst
i mean
if you've never played the pre-6.0 monk it'll probably feel fine, and I'll probably continue to heal as mistweaver (maybe as shaman or paladin, not sure), just some venting about changes intentionally done to make things less dynamic for healers

no
no not even then
mistweaver is super fucking bad right now
maybe I can do good tank heals even though every other healer is better at that
edit: this probably just means I need to find out if I like a different heal spec, which hopefully I do.

<Might> is still around actually, I don't remember which server though. They had moved from Lothar to Turalyon, but they've moved again after that.

mythic doesn't super hold an appeal atm, though I'm sure that'll change when I really like a mythic set over the heroic/normal one
Are you horde or ally?
I actually got first dibs on loot because I was the top DPS with a homebrew frost fire build
we cleared it and then I quit because having to raid multiple hours on multiple days was awful
We now call it Doomgun.

goku or a 10/25 man raid
goku would be the special mythic only boss so it would be 20 people
and then a fifth phase where he nukes the entire raid with a spirit bomb

quantifying "fun" is hard
I'm curious what sort of beta feedback they got, since that is usually the biggest influence players have for the entire expansion...any redesigning after is usually a lot smaller in scope
There is nothing un-fun about turning into a bear or a birdowl
which isn't going to be viable once I have to worry about mana again at level 100
But if I'm not excited about it I can get hella pumped about LASER OWL! And Windwalker/Brewmaster are still awesome.
