I really love how in Lego Marvel I can swing around as Venom and then switch on the fly oh hey I'm Thor now and I'm gonna zoom up to the SHIELD Helicarrier really fast and completely seamlessly
I don't think I could go back to a Lego game that confined you to walking and driving around the hub
So if anything, getting Lego City first might be the right way to do it, because once you go flight you never go back
You are a bad influence on my wallet. It seems to want to go spend money now.
There's so much more to evaluating the overall quality of a game than the way you can maneuver around.
It's like saying NSMB2 is better than Mario Galaxy because you can fly in all the levels.
Bad comparison. In Mario games, movement is the core game mechanic. The running and the jumping are the fun parts of the game. In open-world games like Lego City and GTA, you go across the map to get to your next mission/objective, which is often more satisfying than the trip it took to get there. How fast or fun it can be to get around can have a huge impact in the overall quality of a game in an open world setup. Mario side-steps this entirely by just having level select screens.
I dunno, I love the driving in Lego City. The fact that the game actually encourages you to run over / drive against everything makes it pretty fun.
It makes no sense, though!
You're a cop!

I actually never had many studs in Lego City because I couldn't train myself to drive through stuff (also because it's faster to not drive through stuff)

You would think that evaluating a game based on how you move around in it would be even more valid when that is the central game mechanic, as opposed to the thing between missions.
I mean, just to pick one random aspect that is probably more important than locomotion...humor's a pretty core thing to the Lego franchise.
That is indeed pretty. Like they took Ridge Racer 64 and just increased the model definition and texture resolution to HD levels without changing anything else.

Okay, let me try to rephrase my point. We're not talking about the core gameplay found in missions, we're talking about the traveling between. The open-world Lego games have a lot of travelling between missions. While traveling is often fun by itself at first, after a while, you've seen the whole city, and you really just want to get to the next mission. When you spend that much time on travel, locomotion becomes a much bigger deal.
Last month, reports began circling of GameStop stores in Italy and the U.S. canceling pre-orders for Watch Dogs on Wii U. Ubisoft confirmed with Polygon at the time that the Wii U version had not been canceled, but Nintendo's third quarter financial report published on Jan. 30 did not list Watch Dogs as a Wii U title coming this fiscal year. Ubisoft again confirmed that the game was slated to launch in the first quarter of Ubisoft and Nintendo's fiscal year 2014-2015, which begins in April.
That is indeed pretty. Like they took Ridge Racer 64 and just increased the model definition and texture resolution to HD levels without changing anything else.
People rag on GAF a lot for being a cesspool, but Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis, creators of '90s Arcade Racer, is there right now answering people's questions about the game.
I think that's generally why it's tolerated despite its assholishness, insiders do hang out there!
Q: So I guess it is easier to produce a game with 4XMSAA AND FXAA running at 720p than a game just running at straight up 1080p?
A: The Wii U is actually perfectly capable of doing 1080p, but we wanted to give that up so we can add more visual effects and polish. With AA, running at 720p/60fps the visual fidelity is negligible given that we can add more effects.
Okay, really, really weird question. I have a deluxe Wii U. This should mean I have 32 gigs less whatever the system takes up, correct? Given I have 0 games installed and just a couple things, I thought I'd have plenty of room to download Lego City Undercover. However, when I go into Data Management, it claims I only have 5.8gigs left. Even if I highlight absolutely everything, it still claims I only have 6.6 gigs of free room. Where the heck is the rest of my data? Has anyone seen this before or have any advice?

Over the course of the year, updates have taken up quite a bit of space. I read somewhere that some people with 32 gig units only have 24 gigs left after all that. If you have certain settings enabled, it may have automatically downloaded Wii Sports Club and the Wii Fit Demo.
However, the data management indicator may be wrong too, some people have had that happen. You might go to buy the game and it'll say "sure, you've got 20 gigs left, plenty of space."
I really wish they'd partition part of the drive for whatever updates they need, then sell it based on whatever is left over. Hate buying "__ GB" and only getting part of that.

I already bought the game. Maybe it downloaded and just hasn't appeared yet? Where do I find the download queue? That would actually make sense.
edit: yep I'm an idiot though it is remarkably unclear. It is in the middle of downloading so it's already reserved the 22 gigs of space, but it doesn't yet show up anywhere useful. I finally looked up download queue and saw that it's on the far right when looking at the home screen. Going to take forever though.
So, my wife and I entered the jersey thing. I wonder when winners are announced?
Considering the relatively low number of Wii Us sold, and the likely lower number of people actually using Nintendo TVii, and then perhaps the even lower number of people who would participate... I kind of like my odds.
Did they even promote this anywhere else? I never saw it if they did, just on Nintendo TVii itself and the images here.
Side note: I can't be the only one thinking maybe Nintendo should have purchased actual ad time during the Super Bowl to try to get their best message across, can I?
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
Spending millions of dollars for a short 30 second ad that a bunch of drunk, angry people are watching probably wouldn't be the best investment (IMO).
Yeah, but don't the ads tend to linger and get discussed for a while after? Just last night, I was looking at an article with the best/worst ads of the Super Bowl.
Heck, some people just watch FOR the ads, never minding the game itself.

That sort of thing.
I'm actually surprised he didn't get dogpiled for that. I have a very low opinion of GAF, especially so when it comes to anything even vaguely related to Nintendo.
I'm sure the fanboys will be sticking this feather in their cap as a "See, Nintendo can't keep any sort of Third Party exclusivity!" arguments for months to come.
As it is, I'm having a hard time with people on the various gaming websites right now. Nintendo is doing poorly right now, but the amount of vitriol and 'Nintendo should go third party' and 'Nintendo should just die' is really bugging me something fierce. I have nothing against fair conversation about their situation, but so many people just want to kill a company that I still love.
Ugh...this hobby of mine is just no fun sometimes.
It amazes me how many people there are that actually revile Nintendo for the sin of making games that don't appeal to them personally. I mean, I don't buy an XBox because many of their exclusives are FPSs, which don't appeal to me. But I don't claim that Microsoft should up and die.

And now Polygon has retracted this statement. Or edited it and changed "Ubisoft again confirmed" to "GameStop again confirmed". Or something. And the title's future is still up in the air. It's been removed from Nintendo's internal release calender that was given to investors in the past few days, but that's not proof enough.
What a bizarre tale, Ubisoft needs to set the record straight.
