So I looked up the wiki article on Gaunt's Ghosts with the intention of providing abdhy with character names.
There is a section entitled "Inconsistencies within the Warhammer 40,000 universe" which is depressing reading. One of them is that various sources within the universe disagree on how many shots an overpowered "hotshot" power cell for a laser weapon contains.
Because it is completely inconceivable that in a setting spanning millions of planets and hundreds of years that various people might have come up with the same nickname for similar but distinct things.

Margarita tips:
-The classic 3-2-1 recipe is bullshit and tastes bad. Instead go 1.5 tequila, .75 lime juice, .75 cointreau
-If cost is a concern, sub in a 60 proof triple sec for the cointreau
-Get real tequila! Do not use a bullshit mixto. If it doesn't say "Made in Mexico" in Mexican-talk and 100% pure blue agave, it isn't tequila.
-juice real limes Friday morning. DEATH BEFORE SOUR MIX
-If you can find a juice container with a mouth large enough to jam ice in, you've got yourself a batch cocktail shaker.
-Adding .5 mango nectar is a crowd pleaser. If your local grocery store does not carry mango nectar, hit up a bodega.

They kind of got this in the Honved, but not really as it was de facto suborned to the common army in eg WWI
edit: of course, later in the war the entire military forces of Austria-Hungary were effectively being commanded by the German General Staff so...
This is a very interesting line. The history of armies in WW1, as opposed to states or the like. A-H is as you say, but what about Germany? The country was pretty mad at that point. One giant, England like state, several medium sized states, Bavaria notably, and lots of smaller ones. Most with an armed forces. All of which progressively became some wider mess as the war progressed and the Fronts demanded men.

Good ol Frank. He was a good war, oft forgotten but so very important for all the wars that followed him.
I think there is more to it than you give credit too. Sure, the imperial structure was in place, as was the money, but the actual basic organisation, especially wrt to reservists, always key in the German army, was still quite regional. Then of course there is Bavaria.

I'm not really familiar with the German military of the period like I am with the Austrian one though so not really my bailiwick
As far as I remember Germany would field "korps" from the various states in the beginning of the war. Later on it wasn't feasible anymore since new recruits had to be sent where currently needed.
I still need a leader (Spool for scout, Mazzyx for grenadier, Raven for support. Mazzyx beat you to it and I decided to not be cliche and have the girl be the sniper.)

God who told that story about anonymous question feedback via Clippy, and the Engineers noticed a pattern of someone talking in desperation to this paperclip about all their problems, and it ending up in Redmond fully anonymized so all the engineers could do was read snippets of sad stories.
