They shouldn't be that difficult to implement and would go a long way in making bases more defensable, particuarly without requiring a huge clan or being constantly online.
And the hilarity when you forget where you put them, get yourself killed, and have no one to blame but yourself.
Nice server u dont have to worry about getting killed every 5 mins and losing everything u worked for .
Well that just sounds boring.
Edit: but no, really, am I missing something? At least in the current state, what the hell is there to do exclusively in PvE? The only enemies are zombies. There are no quests. And building anything other than a big square box of a house is pointless for any purpose other than PvP.

@ll2andall Excuse the denizens of our server. Being under constant threat tends to get them on edge.
Much in the same way that people don't buy CoD or Counter Strike for the single player campaigns, Rust is being built around player interactions and the risk associated with that.
Do you run the server you posted or simply play there? If you run it then we should certainly add it to the OP as we have had a few people who didn't enjoy the PvP aspect of my server.

Yeah, he's likely posting it everywhere, but I'm going to go ahead and add it to the OP anyway because some people might like to get their feet wet in a PvE server before jumping into the deep end.
That said, @ll2andall, I hope you'll stick around and contribute to the thread too, especially in case people who found your server from here have questions or issues. Both Pie and Sliver have remained active, so it'd be great if you did the same. Hope to see you around!
I wasn't intending to be unfriendly, just having a gentle dig. I even used a smiley face. I understand some people would like a PvE server, but can't see me logging so many hours on a game that has no real mission yet.
Re: traps for base defense, I hope they find a way to make them more than an inconvenience. If raiders can just trigger them, respawn (potentially nearby with sleeping bags or a quick shack with a bed), and go on to the next trap, they won't be much of a deterrent to raiding offline folks.
Apparently they are adding locked backpacks next version. Backpacks will remain locked for 5-10 minutes after a player dies and can be bypassed with a lockpick item.

Imo there should be a time killer trap instead of a player killer trap. Sort of like how hi-tech safes work with relockers . If you trigger the relocker the protected room, area, whatever becomes unreachable by anyone for a long period of time (i.e. 12 hours).
Pieman, would you be willing to test C4ing some metal walls so we can get confirmation about whether metal walls do in fact have strong and weak sides? I'm seeing this talked about more on Reddit but no one seems to actually know for sure.
I hope that's not the case, it's virtually impossible to tell from the glowy placement thing which way something is facing, and half of my walls are facing the 'wrong' direction.
I imagine eventually they'll let the 'owner' remove and replace stuff, but for now it's just annoying.
And there are other solutions to the sleeping bag problem. If they made them consumed on a respawn and have a, say, 30 minute timer on sleeping bag respawns, it would help mitigate some abuse related to them.

On metal walls you can kind of tell just from the outline which side is which. On the side where you can kind of see the support frame, that's the inside iirc. For wooden walls it's not as obvious, but I believe the easiest way to tell is to look at the slats themselves. On one end of the wall, the slats are even at the bottom. On the other end, the slats are uneven. When the even slats are on your right, that means you are facing the inside of the wall, and the other side should be on the outside of your house.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong in that, but I think that's how I was told.
They should just make it a 5 minute timer for spawning on ANY sleeping bag. If you die and spawn "At Camp" then die again within 5 minutes you don't even have the "At Camp" option, you just spawn in the wilderness like a fresh player. There's too many little hacks you can do with the current system. You can use them as fast travel points to your bases all over the map. You put one in each base. Then if you want to get to base #4 you just suicide 4 times assuming your fourth sleeping bag was placed there. Of course you have to strip to do this.
The suicide base is also kind of ridiculous. This is where you have a 3x3 platform with the center ceiling missing. You make it 3 pillars tall with a sleeping bag on it. There's another platform 2 pillars tall just below the center opening with a storage box on it. You use a storage box and a barricade on the ground floor to access the box on the center platform. Put all your loot in the box, suicide to get to the third floor and then you can access the box on the center platform to retrieve the gear you stored there and stash it on the main floor.

Hey guys, if I could make a small request? We really need metal frags to get some stuff sorted in terms of supplies to make up for what we lost. I know I've talked to a few of you about it, but if I haven't and you see myself, JRosey, or Downer on, they can fill you in on what we need, metal frags or otherwise.

Awoke in the middle of a field with the most meager of rations: a stone, a torch, and a few bandaids. The immediacy of my problems were apparent; I would need food, shelter, and warmth as soon as possible. I wandered around a bit, hoping to find some wild berries or a stream from which to drink. I happened upon what I thought was another person and as I approached him he immediately turned on me and began trying to eat my face off. I pulled out my rock and bashed him in the face, but to no avail. My death was quick, but painful.
I resurrected in a pine forest, surrounded deer and sunlight. I decided to scout a bit and get my bearings. I tried to chase down one of the deer, thinking that it would be a good source of food for a starving adventurer, such as myself. Alas, all attempts to catch the deer proved fruitless as it outran me at every turn. As I was chasing the dear, I felt a sharp stab of pain from behind me. Whirling around, standing there grinning stupidly, was another zombie!. Within a few moments, I am dead.
I resurrect again. This time in a valley buffeted by two mountains and a massive structure of some kind. I can only presume that there are other humans trapped here like me, perhaps if I can reach them - talk to them - they'll be able to help me. I search for any other signs of humanity, but find none. Night falls, and with it, all the light and warmth are devoured from the earth. Utterly lost, starving, and terrified of what lurks in the night, I hunker down behind some rocks and try to rest. This cold desolate wasteland begins to take over, and I eventually perish to frostbite and starvation.
I awake. The pattern all too familiar at this point. I'm on a long road that stretches between two mountains. To the north lies a plain and beyond that a forest. The sun is rising to the east, casting dull shadows from the trees. I am convinced this place is some sort of hell, a prison meant for those who have committed horrible crimes in their past lives. Frustrated, alone, and desperate I feebly try to chase after another dear. He evades me effortlessly. Failure seems to be my only friend in this place.
In a fit of rage, I curse this fallow land and toss my rock at a nearby boulder. But after the clink of the stone's impact, I hear a dull thud. Alarmed, I walk around the side of the boulder to the sound of the impact. A sharp piece of stone separated from the boulder. My heart begins to race. I hack away feverishly at the boulder, large pieces of stone debris flying all around me. It comes apart so easily, almost like it was meant to....
My hands are bloody from the smashing of rock on rock, but when it's over, I have a bag full of stone, and a sharp triangle that could be used for a hammer. If only I had some wood and twine. I run to the nearest tree and start bashing on it. Pieces of lumber come spewing from the pine. The wood is hard and firm. I take some of the bark and use it to wrap around the stonehead, crafting a makeshift hatchet. I spy a dear off in the distance. This time, I'm ready.
I chase the deer for hours it seems, but eventually, I corner it in a mountain pass and bludgeon it till my hammer turns crimson. I'm not proud of it. I still feel pangs of remorse for that poor creature. But this isn't about morality anymore, this is about survival.
I craft a fire from the wood I've harvested and begin roasting the meat. The venison was tough, garish even. But it didn't matter, it was delicious. It was a meal of victory, and victory never tasted so sweet. With the remaining wood and deer tendons, I am able to construct a rudimentary bow. I use the stone pieces to craft arrow heads. I use the large pieces of lumber to create a dilapidated shed. It's not much, but at least it will protect from the rain.
I go to sleep that night with my belly full, the warmth of the fire beside me, and a roof over my head.

Haven't people been able to raid the suicide base? I thought there was a video of someone breaking into it with the barricade/box trick. As far as I know no base in un-raidable, though some just take a ridiculous amount of C4, "creative" use of objects, or...um...open windows...

pitfalls
rolling logs
cages that release a pack of bears and wolves

Definitely needs to be more wildlife and I would love to tame a bear and ride it.
And then someone would kill it.
Every time I play and a wolf attacks me, my daughter asks why I can't make the doggy my friend and bring him to my house.

That's when you know shit just got real.
Seriously, once you've built a base, what's the point of the game? If you don't have PvP survival is much easier. Why not just play Minecraft.
It's the thrill of never knowing if I'm about to get a 5.56mm to the back of the head or not.

Unless you accidentally shoot a metal door at point blank range while attempting to enter a door lock code.
