I'm buying Strider tomorrow. Looks dope.
Does something good come out on the 11th? I don't see anything good on the horizon? :\

    ...Titanfall?

And if you didn't get the One. Dark Souls 2

Nope, I don't see anything good on the horizon.
I get to wait for the PC port of Dark Souls 2. Whenever that is. :(

The lack of servers in Australia kind of sealed the fate of the game for me.

Rizzi is Australian and thus has no access to decent dedicated servers for Titanfall until probably August realistically (May optimistically, next year pessimistically), which is a fair amount of time to be playing with a considerable amount of lag. Same reason I cancelled my preorder of the PC version, but once they have the servers actually running I intend to buy it. Hopefully it will also be discounted price wise by then too.

    Edit: Beaten.

Edit2: Strider is really good if you want a 2D Metroidvania game. The fact it's designed like a Metroidvania with tons of secrets is what I love about it so much. If Double Helix gets stuck making mobile phone games or some shit with Amazon I am going to flip a table.

I thoroughly enjoyed the couple of hours I put into the beta, but yeah, even with my 100mbit cable I was rocking a 117ms ping to Singapore. The client side prediction is pretty good, but you certainly noticed the lag in intense gun fights. Gives me high hopes for the game once Australia has servers, but it's a huge shame that nothing has been sorted out for release.

I have an Xbox One and while I think Titanfall looks fun, I won't be getting it because I'm just not into competitive FPS as a genre.

But the other answer is I have an Xbox One because I felt like getting a next gen system for the fun of it and to play AC4 and at the time PS4 was not available and Xbox One was. =P Now I have both systems, and I have no idea when the next Xbox One game will come out that i'll buy, but I just don't care. Maybe Project Spark, Fable Legends, Halo, or D4. Consoles are cheap enough that I don't need games to be out for it to buy it if I'm going to use it for some purpose, and even now I use the X1 for amazon prime, netflix, TV, and xbox fitness.

I got the XB1 to play BF4 and now AC4, and my choice was made over the PS4 because all the people I shoot mans with also are on the XB1

Titanfall was not a factor. Although if it has a solid SP campaign to complement the MP I will be getting it for sure.

So this means that Double Helix, the studio that I (and many others) completely wrote off after E3 have made not just one, but apparently two really good games.

Never happier to be wrong than now.

Addendum: One good game and one great game. Strider is seriously scratching that Metroidvania itch in a fantastic way for me.

I'm playing the PC version, which surprisingly runs super well on my less-than-stellar laptop. And believe me, I had my doubts it would run at all. The only campaign I can ascertain is at the end of the round it's like "We need to evacuate! Get to the chopper!"

I guess there's going to be giant monsters as well which might be cool. The PC version is 48 bucks and playing with a DualShock4 is godly.

There's definitely a story there, but I think Respawn didn't want to focus anything on that for the beta.

Until I played the Beta, Titanfall was nothing more than a subject of annoyance when it came up in conversation because it was always followed by "but it's on the PC too" or some response that I found to be well, annoying. And yeah, I too bought an Xbox One because I wanted one. Thought I was going to get both after I finished off my 360 library, but my interest in getting a PS4 has dropped significantly post-launch.

I bought Lococycle and I have that lego movie game sitting around. Bought Tomb Raider because I was feeling nostalgic about the MP in it. Once that's done I'll burn through the campaign to complete it. Titanfall will likely be the next game I start on the One though... but I'm sure the achievements in it are going to be silly so I probably won't complete it.

When they say Titanfall has campaign multiplayer, what they mean is they put some of those scripted story sequences and cinematic stuff directly into the multiplayer, and you choose one of the two sides to fight for and some story stuff changes based on that. Honestly, I consider it a huge waste of money to spend development dollars on a single player campaign for a game that is designed part and parcel for competitive multiplayer so I'm glad to hear Respawn didn't waste the money putting in some shitty 8 hours single player story just for the sake of doing it. Just like single player story focused games like Bioshock shouldn't have development dollars spent on shitty multiplayer either.

    Opinions of course.

Apparently people like the Dead Rising games.

I think they're about as fun as pulling teeth, but there you go.

EDIT: I personally wasn't following Titanfall at all, but the beta has been a lot of fun. A welcomed change from BF4. That being said, I expect the same limitations that BF4 had since I'm not suited to purely multiplayer experiences (in other words, I suck at them). It's not a dealmaker for me anymore than any Battlefield game is, but what I've seen so far is damn impressive.

I played Titanfall beta for about 2 hours last weekend. But this game just did not give me the same joy playing other shootman games.

I think it is a good game but just not for me. I got XB1 so I can play with XB1 bros and not because of one exclusive game.

I never claimed there was a single player campaign.

From what I understand, Respawn wants to do something simialr to how Brink handled its campaign. Only not completely shitty. Some people are turned off by the lack of a single player campaign, but there is a campaign story mode in there. You just have to play with other people. It's fine if someone loses interest in Titanfall due to lack of single player content, but if it's because of a percieved lack of story, I just wanted people to be aware that the game will be more than just random games of TDM and Domination.

I think their idea of "multiplayer campaign" is just a buzzword, I mean a true definition of a "campaign" has a start, middle, and ending. How are they gonna pull that off with the same 15 maps? It's going to be variations of "Ok IMC guys, defend this against the Militia for reasons" or "Militia, you need to attack that IMC location for reasons" on various locations. Maybe a "OK Militia/IMC guys, defend/attack this but beware, there's a Kaiju coming" mixed in.

That's not a campaign, it's just a vague wrapper to explain why you're doing what you're doing. I'm sure there will be LORE for the game in the menus and through some in-game chatter, but that's not really what I'd call a campaign. That "multiplayer campaign" term just looks good on a fact sheet.

I partially agree with your post. :P

Multiplayer is a good way of allowing players to continue to be involved in the story or atmosphere of a game beyond just the SP experience, and vice versa (SP actually investing the players).

I'm interested to see how they'll pull this off.

Alright, I was feeling kinda bummed about my One purchase, because for some reason I almost think I prefer Titanfall on PC more.

But then I did Kinect Sports Rivals.

    And now I'm happy.

It brings that same "Oh, BOY! KEEN!" sense that the wii did, but with more futuristic neatness.

Now I just wish the cable tv navigation shit worked better.

I think I've pinpointed the reason I like Titanfall more than I thought I would: it fully encapsulates the experienced in all my old favorite online games. It invokes the same feelings from those games that throughout the years have claimed months and years of my game time. Stuff like Quake/Unreal, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Mech Warrior, Jedi Knight, Modern Warfare. It's just pure fun and excitement for me.

I put in almost 18 hours into the beta and I'm still anxiously awaiting the full game.

After I put down the beta, I tried out Strider. I played a lot longer than I set out to, wearing a big, dumb grin the whole time. I absolutely love when people are able to remake my favorite games better than I remember them.

I have no experience with any of the original Strider games though, so I'm going to have to go on reviews for the most part. Pretty favorable so far.

    Strider is awesome.

Not only does it recapture the retro feel of the old school side-scrolling action games, but it looks beautiful while doing so. Strider is smoother and faster paced than I remember those old games being, too.

The game is a lot more forgiving than I remember it being. There are frequent health boosts and checkpoints, but I've barely glimpsed the depth of the game. There's an ability that becomes available if you can kill enough enemies without being hit. Collectibles and upgrades litter the open map and you can back track anytime (or after you unlock a new ability) to claim them. Then, there's the time attack nature of the leaderboards, which is where the replayability looks like it comes into play.

It doesn't hurt that the overall presentation also reminds me of Shadow Complex, which was the final straw before I purchased my 360. Modelling this revival after the Metriodvanias is genius.

Does anyone else miss the ability to block players that we had on the 360? I ask because the jail system in KI doesn't prevent jailed players from being matched with me and disconnecting when I'm about to win. What really puzzles and annoys me is that these players are doing this in Exhibition matches.

Then, after they disconnect mid-match, I get re-matched with them and have to endure them shouting insults and tea-bagging me when they win or disconnecting mid-match if it looks like I'm going to win.

All of this could be fixed if I could just avoid the bastards.

The way the reputation system works on the One as far as I understand it, is that if enough people report a player eventually they only really get matched with other terrible people. So report the guy or whatever, which may even block them from you? Not sure how it all works.
