Yeah, as GameXplain put it, the difficulty level starts about where the main SP campaign left off, o4 maybe a bit harder.
Like, the very first ‘proper’ level
has you facing down four octolings in succession, each with different weapons and it’s still the ‘easy’ one because there’s lots of cover and no time or ink limit.

...because dragons are AWESOME! That's why.

It feels a lot like the adventure mode in Hyrule Warriors. There's no overworld like in the base game, you're instead given a subway system map with each station being a level that you need to clear to pass, and more lines appearing as you discover intersections. There are a few fixed targets that you need to reach, but you can take a variety of paths to reach them, skirting around any levels that you find too difficult to beat.

Is Nekopara one of them lewd VNs? I know I've heard that name before. At any rate, it's rated T on Switch, so there probably isn't anything too objectionable in it.

Pretty much. I read the steam version is censored or something so it's probably that one? I dunno.

For whatever reason, I got really into Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D this weekend and have blazed through worlds 3-7. It's mostly a really solid platformer that reminds me of the Rayman games and occasionally of Ori and the Blind Forest. But some of that special Nintendo-ness is actively making it worse. If you make a super hard game full of cheap deaths, that's okay if it's fun. You know what's less okay? Having an enforced message telling me to take a break every time I finally beat a level. Buzz off, game, you're not my dad! And during the hard level, this pig shows up to offer to beat the levels for me because obviously I need the help trollolol. Which is a good feature to have in a tough game like this... if I can TURN IT OFF. This reminds me of the very forceful prompts to skip the level in Splosion Man and Ms. Splosion Man. If you make it super hard, ACCEPT THAT I'M GOING TO DO IT MYSELF AND FUCK OFF. Also, what's the point of stopping me at 99 lives? I mean... honestly there's no point to lives at all, the aforementioned Rayman and Ori games figured out that it's some archaic arcade shit that has no place in a modern game. But you've decided it's... harder? to have lives and have to buy more and you get 100 for collecting bananas and etc. Then you load me up with basically infinite banana coins (I have like 700?). And then you arbitrarily say "No, 99 lives is ENOUGH, stop there!" And a final bit of moaning, it's rare to see a platformer with such an essential ability as Diddy's hover be considered a pickup that the game doles out or not at its whim. Doing a level with hover and dying and then having to do the same section just as "falls like a rock fired straight down from a T-shirt cannon" DK is like spawning with a single SMG in a Halo match you were already losing. I would take a powerup that only let me have 3 hits if I ALWAYS spawned with Diddy.

For people who beat this, should I double back and get all the KONG letters, does that unlock a true ending or something like that? If it's just a percentage number thing... I probably do not care.

Edit: Okay, beat the rest of it. The Kong Letters get you orbs which unlocks an End Game Temple. I was pretty thorough in the later levels, so I'm just cleaning up the beginning now. And continuing the theme of mixed messages in difficulty, Cranky will just sell the orbs apparently? That seems bizarre that they'd make this whole thing of "beat every level collecting the hard stuff and THEN do a very hard challenge level... or spend 50 banana coins lol."

Man I am so torn here. Snake Pass is on my list of games I'd like to play on Switch, but it's on sale for a full $12 less on Steam right now. I could buy a whole other game (like Battle Chef Brigade) with that $12...but I wouldn't be able to take Snake Pass portable, then.

I really dug Snake Pass, but yeah, I’d advise waiting for the sale. It’s a little on the short side, but also about as long as you’d want it to be for what it’s capable of. The movement feels amazing when you grasp it, but that’s most of the game.

Still, worth the cheaper price, it’s a unique little experience.

Yeah, it's kind of a mixed bag like that. I really don't like how the various Kongs are implemented more as power-ups here, and how relatively helpless DK can feel without them-- which is especially prevalent in 2-player mode.

Anyone else play Dillon's Dead Heat Breakers? I bought it recently after having totally missed its release date. Enjoying it for the most part. About 6h45m or so on the clock, I've hit a progression blocker. It causes the game to crash and forces a system reset. It doubly sucks because the auto-save loads me into the start of a cutscene, at the end of which the game crashes. And the cycle repeats. No way to get around it.

It's bizarre. I don't remember an issue like this with a Nintendo game...ever?

edit: after a bit of googling, I found out how to get around it. Delete any provisionally registered friends. Hopefully this helps anyone who runs into this issue.

Anyone play Adventure Pals? I think I heard the guys on the CAGcast say it was interesting, so I added it to my wish list to wait for a sale. It's now on sale for $9 (from $15), but I watched the Quick Look and it seemed kinda boring.

Man, I haven't really been feeling the Switch in months. I hadn't been interested in any of the 2018 offerings thus far (and the Splatoon DLC was a huge disappointment). Then out of nowhere the eShop is just killing it. MMX Legacy Collection, Picross S2, Iconoclasts, and Okami all within a few weeks.

I don't mean offense, but it sounds like you have a very niche taste in games. I wish I had more time to play everything that the switch has right now. My problem is finding one thing to play with the little time I have.

On a side note, anyone get Severed with their gold coins for the 3DS? It's pretty cool. It has a dungeon crawler early PC game feel. Didn't expect that.

I did make a point of framing it as my lack of interest in the offerings and not saying "Nothing good came out this year". So yeah, my tastes don't always line up with the rest of the forum. I hate [franchise] Warriors, DKC, roguelikes, and anything described as "the Dark Souls of ___".

I did enjoy indie darling Celeste, which I forgot did come out this year. Though I did hate the story parts, which most people seemed to really like.

I'm with you on Celeste. I can see why some people liked the story, but I wasn't too into it. The gameplay however was my style for sure.
