The qunari probably had the most hilarious mage hawke reaction in 2.
You suddenly tell them what you are, the realization hits them and the calmness is gone.
"HOLY SHIT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!"
Well yeah; you basically just told their version of templars that "Hey lookie here, I'm a mage without one of you guys watching me! Neener neener neeeeeenerrrrrr!"
You might as well openly admit to Meredith that you're a maleficar.
It's more extreme than that.
The templars would ask questions first, they annoy me to no end but they abide by a more lenient code of conduct towards mages, the qunari lost their fucking minds like I was the devil himself during civil conversation.
It's because the Qunari are quite lacking in critical thinking, and have a tendency of killing detractors. In this case it would be the novel idea of a polite conversation instead of immediate and unjustified mutilation.
If theres anything that could unite the templars and mages, it would be a qunari invasion.
They are the biggest assholes by far.
(Well, except for Tevinter)
There's two incredibly redeeming features that the Tevinter Imperium has. One ties into the other.
1. They are competent. Mages, keeping their shit together, etc. They're good at what they do, and seem to deal with the issues that the Chantry and the other nations have in stride.
2. They have more or less single-handedly kept the Qunari at bay, away from the rest of the continent. There may have been some assistance at some point, but mostly it's been them.
And in all honesty, basically every single faction and/or nation in the setting is a huge compilation of assholes. If I had to pick one bunch of assholes to associate with, I'd rather it be a competent bunch of assholes.
They are competent but also sounds like a pretty corrupt place.
I have no problem with a mage nation though, I'm pro mage myself. Tevinter was founded on countless years of greed and over ambition though, it seems like damaged goods but I guess we'll have to wait and see whats it like up close in Inquisition.
I think I remember reading a while back that they were thinking about making it so you could only choose one specialization instead of two or three, but that one spec would have dialogue attached to it.
i'm really hoping this is like, a big thing that'll reward multiple playthroughs even as the same class
but the realist in me guesses it'll be... 3, 4 lines tops

Maybe we'll be lucky, and it'll make some factions like you slightly more.

Hey now, You can be a good blood mage.
I plan to rescue people all the time, no charge. Blood magic saves the world! That'll piss the chantry off.
Jowan was there to poison whatshisface at the request of Loghain. Ostensibly he was hired by the kid's mother to train him in magic. The kid was the one who summoned the demon to try and cure his father.
Right, but the kid said he learned how to summon a demon by reading Jowan's books. Which begs the question of why Jowan needed a book of demon summoning.

Probably had to do with the whole blood mage thing, since he's uh, you know... a blood mage.

I am really hoping that I can just completely rip apart the entire Qun bullshit in front of their eyes as well. "Oh, hey you high and mighty assholes, you're just like the Tevinter, but worse".

Little splash in the face of the ol' Qun brainwashin' juice will fix that right up.

Exactly! Jowan was a blood Mage who studied demon summoning. Not a puppy.
He deserves to burn with the rest of the malificar.

Sure, a puppy that teaches a small boy magic that summoned a demon that murdered half a city.
Why was Jowan carrying a book on demon summoning if so innocent?
Ohhh....forgot about that.
I'm fine with blood magic (but not teaching it to a small idiot child of course). Demons are another thing entirely though, they can't be controlled. They got a bad habit of eating people when you tell them not to.
Silly Jowan. Always getting into those whacky hijinks.
To be fair, I had zero problems with Jowan's original motivations. Dude knew he was gonna be lobotomized regardless of what happens, so might as well try to gain some power and maybe avert that.
Doesn't mean he wasn't a doofus.

I didn't have any problem with him wanting to escape the tower and tranquility either.
Or wanting the kid to avoid the same fate but he should have really reined in what the boy had to access to. Letting him read (or be put in a position where the boy could easily find it) a book on demon summoning is like handing a small child a machine gun.
This Jowan episode is just a reminder that Mages are a threat to society even when attempting to do good.
All stupid people are a threat to society.
I'm certainly not going to let the templars and chantry round them all up before they can make a mistake though. I'll destroy them before I'll let that happen.
Freeedooom!

Man, my murder knife is going to be busy in DAI.
I agree, except I'll be murdering Templars and Chantry types. And any Mage or *insert faction here* idiots that try to fight me.
But mostly Templars and Chantry.
I'm against discrimination. Thus, my plan is to Murder Knife every time there is a Murder Knife option, regardless of what side they are on.

While I'm generally open to all forms of magic in Dragon Age, I draw the line at demon summoning or willingly subjecting yourself to a spirit like Anders did.
All demons are self serving mustache twirling villians. Conjure one up to make a sandwhich for you and they'll burn down a whole village while possessing your dog.

Ah, so she's got one in her too?
Interesting. To be honest, Wynne is probably the party member in Origins I'm least familiar with. I hardly ever used her when we were friendly and I killed her quite a few times during runs where I opposed the chantry/templars and she stood in my way during the circle quest.

Spirit.
Spirits just have a strong chance of being dickbags. Demon is a term for spirits that have already been convicted of major dickbaggery.
According to her the spirit of faith had been watching over her her entire life, so there's some sort of benevolence there. Then when she dies, the spirit enters her body and revives her, but every last bit of its energy is being spent on keeping her alive. It doesn't have any to spare to control her actions, and there's not enough time left for it to get corrupted by being in the real world like Justice was.
A kindly old lady who is secure in her place in the world and confident in her beliefs merging with a spirit of Faith is a far cry from a guy with a lot of misplaced and directionless anger merging with a spirit of Justice.
Plus, Wynne didn't have much of a say in it, the spirit just kinda revived her and kept her going, Wynne didn't make a pact or anything.
I agree. The only reason I don't have a problem with it is that she has a rather strict time limit. If she was just bonded with the spirit for the rest of her natural life or whatever, that gives it enough time to corrupt into whatever an uglier version of faith would be.
All spirits aren't bad, but any time one gets in contact with the real world for an extended period bad things happen. The Fade is a world where absolute concepts like Justice and Faith can exist, but when they cross over all the crazy mortal ambiguity creeps in and messes them up.
Yeah, from what we've seen, Wynne was rather unique since she was already...
dead by the time the spirit entered her. Spirits can already possess dead people, but not with their soul inside too.
So I guess it's a lucky coincidence that it worked out for her. On the other hand, it took Anders 10 years to fully become supreme allied dick-mmander.
DA:O is slightly less than a year and Awakening is a few months after that, so who knows what she is now in Inquisition.

Could we get a Magic Charge?
If that was a Blood Magic power, the temptation to start summoning demons would be impossible to resist.
