Nope, nothing will make that internet poll not fucking stupid.

Every single poll that broad is useless. It is no more fucking stupid and worthless than anything you see on CNN, or GameFAQs, or reddit, etc. Really ANY poll based on opinion is going to be fucking stupid (politics.) I'd be more interested to see how polls supposedly based on facts do...

Especially considering that MW3, a three year old game, still has a base price of $40.

And the entire series is practically allergic to Steam sales.

Silly as they can be, I do kind of enjoy the Single Player campaigns for the Modern Warfare games (have played through 1 and 2), however given that I generally knock them out in about 4 hours or so, my willingness to pay $30-40+ is essentially negligible, and they're generally lucky to get even 10-25% off, at least in my experience.

But apparently even the older games still sell and have some measure of a multiplayer community, so I guess they just don't see the need to cut prices if people are still buying.

Edit: well holy shit, apparently they've decided to prove me wrong. A few titles are actually on sale right now.

Modern Warfare 3 is 1/2 off ($20), Black Ops 2 is 1/2 off ($30) and Black Ops 1 is full price ($40).

... Blops 2 is cheaper than Blops 1? What?

Edit 2: furthermore, Blops is even older than MW3 and still has a base price of $40?

Whelp, maybe next year I'll catch up on a part or two of the franchise, but not at $60 for 2 games.

Yeah, CoD as a series remains stubbornly high-priced. Even on sale they almost never dip below $30.

It's a shame, really. Normally CoD singleplayer feels kind of like perfunctory scripted mayhem - which I'm not opposed to, to be clear - but Blops 2 actually put surprising effort into the campaign. Still nonsense for the most part, but CoD with multiple endings, including bad endings where the bad guy basically wins, was a welcome surprise. Treyarch's next take on the franchise will be the one to watch, to see if they either retreat into formula or experiment even more.

I'm guessing (hoping) that the inclusion of the third studio into the rotation will give Treyarch room to breathe so they can deliver a campaign as memorable as Respawn's first two. I'm of the minority that buys CoD games and just plays the campaign and some co-op, but rarely if ever competitive multiplayer.

I have heard good things about Black Ops, just haven't seen it on sale any of the times I felt the urge to play it.

Black Ops was my favourite of the series, on the Xbox. If I ever saw it on sale on Steam, I'd be tempted to grab it and the DLC, for another online shooter to play when I'm in the mood.

The pessimist in me thinks adding in the third studio is necessary to keep pumping out the brown shinies (brownies?) on the beefier consoles.

Strong new releases helped sales of Wii U software and Nintendo 3DS software in February increase by more than 180 percent and more than 25 percent, respectively, over the same month last year. Wii U software sales were driven by the Feb. 21 launch of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which sold more than 130,000 combined physical and digital units in its first eight days on the market. This helped sales of Wii U hardware increase by nearly 25 percent over the same month last year.

In early 2013, Fire Emblem Awakening launched for Nintendo 3DS and became one of the surprise hits of the year. Bravely Default, which launched for Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 7, improved on the launch of Fire Emblem Awakening by more than 10 percent, selling more than 200,000 combined units in just over three weeks.

Other sales milestones achieved by Nintendo in February include:

Bravely Default and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze finished as the No. 2 and No. 4 best-selling software SKUs for the month of February.
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for the Nintendo 3DS system sold more than 130,000 combined units in their fifth month on the market. This brought the life-to-date total to more than 3.4 million combined units in the United States alone.
Over the next few months, Nintendo will launch a series of games from fan-favorite franchises including Yoshi’s New Island (Nintendo 3DS, March 14), Disney Magical World (Nintendo 3DS, April 11), Mario Golf: World Tour (Nintendo 3DS, May 2), Kirby: Triple Deluxe (Nintendo 3DS, May 2) and Mario Kart 8 (Wii U, May 30).

The only two I ever knew of were BioWare (proper, in Edmonton) and BioWare Austin which did SWToR. I believe BioWare Austin was cut way down, but still exists to support that game (which is actually making a profit now).

Nintendo confirmed that it sold 200,000 physical and digital copies of 3DS role-playing game Bravely Default, and while absent from this list, it also said that Wii U’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold 180,000. The publisher pointed out that in terms of a game selling on an individual platform (rather than combining them like the chart above does), Bravely Default and Donkey Kong were the No. 2 and No. 4 best-selling games of the month.

    Take that as you will.

COD has not left the #1 position since it debuted. I posted that because of all the COD doom talk the last few pages. Game still sells huge and I bet it will still be #1 next month. Titanfall just isn't on enough platforms.

I haven't been following software sales that much since the consoles launched (tee hee) but that's pretty substantial news. It means CoD has meaningful momentum, and that doesn't stop abruptly. So now the question is will Titanfall have a momentum drag, or will it spike as is typical for new releases and then collapse a bit.

The damn AAA model has screwed my perception of sales numbers. I can't help but think that 200k for Bravely Default counts as a big disappointment. But if they're over the moon with those numbers, that's great.

i can see the Xbone having gotten a boost in Feb in anticipation of Titanfall. a few that bought earlier than intended to get time with the beta, others who were impressed by the beta and bought afterwards. just how significant that boost would have been is up for debate, but any sales are going to be welcomed by MS.

as for Titanfall knocking CoD off the top spot, sales of Ghost are going to have to start dropping at some point and Titanfall will be packed in with Xbones so March may very well be the month. either way i think it could be close.

Also I must have missed the CoD doom talk....but what made anyone think that it was going to die. I mean...it will eventually, but CoD is still a beast that cannot be topped. It is the go to game of online multiplayer, and it'll keep selling due to that until something else big comes along.

I am guessing that that 200k Bravely Default number is most of Nintendo's first print run selling out.

I'm surprised to see Thief but not Castlevania: LOS2 on that list. Both games received lots of 6's and 7's from critics but Thief 3, the last entry in the series, is ten years old.

Xbox most likely only gets a percent from stuff bought from them directly. If you're using Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Instant, etc then I bet MS gets nothing from it, which is probaby why they insist on those things being behind a paywall. Also I don't use Apple products, but I bet there's ads in the form of

    2. The Lego Movie Videogame (360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, Vita)
    3. NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC)

    8. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360)
    9. Minecraft (360)
    10. Bravely Default (3DS)
I'm not sure what's the most disappointing thing about that list. Seriously.

I guess Titanfall did save the Xbone.

Titanfall is March. These are Feb. numbers.

COD has not left the #1 position since it debuted. I posted that because of all the COD doom talk the last few pages. Game still sells huge and I bet it will still be #1 next month. Titanfall just isn't on enough platforms.

i can see the Xbone having gotten a boost in Feb in anticipation of Titanfall. a few that bought earlier than intended to get time with the beta, others who were impressed by the beta and bought afterwards. just how significant that boost would have been is up for debate, but any sales are going to be welcomed by MS.

as for Titanfall knocking CoD off the top spot, sales of Ghost are going to have to start dropping at some point and Titanfall will be packed in with Xbones so March may very well be the month. either way i think it could be close.
Do the NPDs count digital sales yet? If they don't then all of those bundled copies won't count.

I hadn't thought of that, NPD DOES count software bundled with hardware, but only physical copies. Those Titanfall bundles just carry a slip of paper with a download code so pretty sure they won't be counted.

You think we would have already gotten a big press release of "Over 500K/750K/1M copies sold in just 24 hours!" out of EA or MS or Respawn at this point. The game came out to huge midnight launches nationwide on Tuesday night.

Nice to see Bravely Default in the top 10.

Yeah, that's amazing! One of only 2 games that are represented on only a single platform.

Good for them. The game really deserves its success.

I wonder if Square are kicking themselves for not publishing it themselves? Does Nintendo get a big cut of the profits that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten?

it'll be interesting to see if the Titanfall pack-in is counted. the Japan charts counted the Knack pack-in for the PS4 and i'm pretty sure the Forza 5 and FIFA pack-ins for the Xbone's UK launch were counted too*. honestly, i think that as long as it comes with the console its counted, regardless of whether its a physical copy or a code. guess we'll find out next month.

*correct me if i'm wrong on that one.

I'll make a bold(ish) prediction and say March looks something like this for software sales

    1. Call of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PC)
    2. The Lego Movie Videogame (360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, Vita)
    3. NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC)
    4. Titanfall (360, Xbox One, PC)
    5. Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
    6. Battlefield 4 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
    7. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Wii U, PC)
    8. Metal Gear Solid V (PS4, PS3, 360, XBox One)
    9. Minecraft (360)
    10. Infamous Second Son (PS4)

I really hope Dark Souls 2 manages to crack the top ten at least. It is definitely a game that is good enough to merit it.

I'm probably weird in that I'd be more comfortable seeing a top ten listing that was every individual version of COD than this weird business now where all the versions are lumped together so the top ten never really changes.
