Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday afternoon in his New York City apartment, a law-enforcement official said.
The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine exact cause of death. The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan.
Mr. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, "Capote."

As horrible as their practices are, TMZ is rarely wrong. Worked in news For 10 years, and can't remember them ever not having something first.
It's incredibly sad, you'd never think of him as a heroin addict. He will be missed.

damn it. he was one of those actors where i was willing to give almost any movie a chance if he was in it. i don't think i ever saw anything where it felt like he just phoned it in for a paycheck

I've heard that a few months out of rehab is a very dangerous time for a relapse, because a user has much less tolerance for opiates than they think they have.
I didn't realize he was in that many shitty comedies, but that's just a testament to his acting ability.

My mom is a nurse and she said heroin is one of the worst drugs you could ever get addicted to.
