Isn't it basically impossible to get the fire unit reward anyway? Reddit was up in arms since they did the math and you'd have to spend about 27 gems, give or take.
Fire wing is good mostly for his BB and leader skill for fire teams it looks like. BB all enemies atk and increase fire units atk by 75% for 2 turns and leader skill 50% atk boost + 5% crit boost for fire units. Not the best stats, plus you need a fire and miracle bulb to evolve him.
And yeah plenty of people are going to get him considering to top dude already has 14k+ points.
Ok yeah and Farlon is really cheap in this. Maybe I should just use my 6* Aisha instead of Cayena...if I had a 50% attack plus BB I would but I don't have a red one. Oh well.
Okay, well, it turns out my earlier projections were highly optimistic. I keep getting my ass kicked in the fire arena. I'm losing points at an alarming rate.
So, it takes 20 minutes for an orb to recharge, right? And the Vortex Arena event started on August 8, 05:30. It's now August 9, 15:11, so the Arena has been open for nearly 34 hours. That means 102 orbs if you've got perfect efficiency and no need for sleep. The highest ranking player has 433 wins and 16 defeats as of right now. That's 449 times he's competed. 449 - 102 = 347. A single gem gets you 3 orbs, which means this guy has spent at least 115 gems on this event.
115 gems, to get an inferno blade (Boosts Max HP, Def by 10% and Increase Fire Atk for Fire Type Unit by 35%), 5 summon tickets (worth 25 gems), 8 burst frogs, and a single Fire Bulb.
He probably spent more gems, since he doesn't have perfect efficiency.
The runner-up has only 600 points less, and he played 197 times. That's 252 times less. 197 - 102 = 95. 95 / 3 = 31. He used at least 31 gems. This guy must have a vastly superior Fire team. What possessed the top ranker to go for first prize? The runner-up only needs to use a couple more gems per day to get the top spot.
It occurs to me that it must be extremely difficult to keep the top spot. You get more points if you fight opponents with a higher score. If you're at the head of the pack, there's no one with a higher score than you. The way the system is set up, the people in the top 10 must be close to each other in terms of points. If I had a super-strong fire team with great equipment and I was willing to gem, I would just play normally until the final day and then gem myself to the top. That would be the most efficient use of gems.
Would that work, though? Would I be able to overtake my opponents or would the head start give them an insurmountable advantage?
[edit] Instead of a vastly superior Fire team, the runner-up (whose screen name is Locke, by the way), could just have used the strategy I described above and started gemming later in the event.
Additionally, it also occurred to me that Fire teams can only get so strong. There's an upper limit to their strength. Since the battles are automatic and favor the player (who gets to attack first), having a perfect Fire team means you'll win 95% of the time (with the other 5% being the RNG screwing you over), even if the opponent also has a perfect Fire team. This mostly eliminates chance in the game.
The only way the game can really screw with you if by assigning you opponents with fewer points, requiring you to refresh. Winning a battle takes longer than refreshing, and there's only so many battles you can fight before the time runs out.
I probably could take out Karl with my rainbow team... Maybe. Might as well finish grinding my lightning team up, though.
They aren't updating the rankings in vortex. I'm stuck at 93k. That's over 100k so I should get some Fire Kings tomorrow. I might break 1k points next fight. No way I'm hitting 10k unless I whale on a metal key and get my fire team up a bit more.
Having fortunately just beat Karl, I'm going to say that you might not be prepared as you think you are.
However, with what I had he wasn't that bad. Had to let my lightning team die out after the -50% BB from him killed half my team. My backup 6* squad was able to kill him off easily enough after that. I'm sure he can be beaten with lesser squads, but it might take more than one try. I guess it depends on what you have.
So I hear Grahdens is a little easier but you have to manage his hp more since he does specific attacks and stuff?
Supposedly Grah instant kills you at certain HP levels, unless you are blocking. So you have to guard with everyone except one unit to nudge him past the instant kill threshold.
I can attest that for the Karl fight Elimo SBB is not enough to go ham for his 50% attack. Not sure if it actually does affect it. But yeah since the parades have been giving me like 50% lightning my lightning guys were able to sweep up pretty easily. Weiss OP!
Probably do Grahdens tomorrow since I need to farm all the golds. Should be much easier with a Grah friend and Elimo.
This is hilarious. The top-ranked player has done the Arena 170 times as of this moment. The Arena event has been going for roughly 75 hours. That's 225 orbs. 225 - 170 = 55. 55 / 3 = 18,33~
So, the top-ranked player could have gotten to his current rank without spending a single gem. And spent 18 hours sleeping. With perfect efficiency, that is. Say he loses 3 hours for whatever reason. Like, he had to go to the store or something. That's still 15 hours of sleep.
Meanwhile, the second-ranked player has played 523 times. 523 - 225 = 298. 298 / 2 = 99,33~. He spent at least 99 gems on this event, if he went without sleep (or passed his phone to a friend).
This guy... He's not very good at this game. He didn't work out the math.
[edit] If this event taught me anything, it's that it's better to spend your 100 gems on Rare Summoning good Fire units during rate-up periods and then leveling them in the Super Metal Parade. You'll end up with an amazing team that'll place you high in the rankings, which you'll get to keep afterwards, and you'll probably have some gems over.
I'd love to be able to make it to the 15000 mark, but there's just no way. I'm approaching 4K after two days or whatever. It's impossible to keep up with this with a full work schedule.

I'm in the same boat as you. Ah well, at least it's gotten easier to get points once out of the 0-3k range.
This event is really time consuming, can't complain about the extra gems and such from ranking up though.
@TeaSpoon Some people go specifically for the top ranking for day, I dunno why but if that's what they like to do then I can't hate on them for whaling. I think the day 1 guy spent ~85 gems to get top spot. The other guys that didn't quite get it must have spent a similiar amount as well. Who are these guys? I don't know, but doge bless them for keeping the game running.
Yeah I really wanted the 15000 reward though. At this point I'll be lucky to hit the 10K one. Especially if my team sits on their BB like they did last night.
I'm sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel better, those of us who are on track to getting the unit will have it uselessly take up space for a long time. At least you'll have gotten a few free items from this event. Try to make it to Celebrated (6000 points) to get the Fire Blade.
Or don't, because the Fire Blade isn't that amazing.
The trick to this event is to find players an Arena rank higher than you with a whole bunch of losses. Something like 25% losses. You'll probably win the fight if you have a Fire team that doesn't suck. I've got an lvl 86 Lancia (max evo), two fully leveled Cayenas (max evo), lvl 92 Vargas (max evo), and a lvl 60 Seria (four stars). All with Muramasas.
Not a very good team, honestly. The Vargas and Cayenas are pretty good, but not amazing. The Lancia has meh stats and a shitty (for Arena) BB, and Seria is extremely underleveled. Nevertheless, the above strategy has been working for me.
Avoid opponents with leader skills that fill the BB gauge and avoid high-level opponents.
[edit] An opponents with a lot of wins but with a relatively low point total (that's still higher than yours) are also good opponents, because it means they have been fighting opponents of the same rank, which usually means they think their team is too weak to fight against higher ranked opponents.
I'd love to be able to make it to the 15000 mark, but there's just no way. I'm approaching 4K after two days or whatever. It's impossible to keep up with this with a full work schedule.
I just barely hit 2 or 3k. Its maddening. Fight one: someone in the mid 40s (I'm low 60s), win and get 30 points. Fight two: someone in their mid 80s, get 60 points. Fight three, someone in their mid 50s, lose 140 points. The hell.
Yeah, if you weren't at least beginning to tweak and put together a fire team last month when they had the Fire unit rate up in the rare summon gate, then this is going to be an event that is no bueno.
The first two days, I played as hard as I could and only managed around 2k points the first day, then 3k the next. Looks like I managed to get 5k points the third day, which puts me on track to easily get the final unit by the final day.
Even if you don't want the unit, at least fight for 10k points for the burst frog if you can.

Just be careful not to cut it too close. Points are more difficult to get once you near the 15000 mark, I've found. It might have been bad luck, but be cautious nonetheless.
It is definitely harder for me to get points the closer I get to 15k because I keep losing today. I must have lost more than my battles so far. If this keeps up, and I'm guessing it's likely, I'm not going to finish in the top 10k like I was hoping. Ah well.

Oh man, I can't wait for the all-healer arena now.
I'll try to keep my rank below 10,000 to get that Water Shield, but I'm not going to put any significant effort into it. I've got so many better equipment that it's not funny.

Got my Grah this morning. Second try since I flubbed a heal BB the first time which kind of wrecked my team. Can confirm that Tesla and Elimo work on Grah's scripted damage so you only need to guard turn 1.

I'm pretty sure that event is just gonna be full Alice teams. That's some old school terror right there.

And why I assume we're also getting the same for all the other colors.
Server is crapped out right now. Constantly getting "unexpected error" messages.
And yeah, I was finally going to Karl but the errors started right when my energy was going to be full enough.
