Thanks. I think part of it is that I get some of the same satisfaction out of writing as I do out of drawing. It's all kind of the same thing to me.

Take a look at Yiynova, Huion or Bosto if you want to save money. They aren't QUITE as good or polished but they are pretty amazing for the price compared to Cintiqs.

There's an app called Character Design Shuffle that kind of works like that. I downloaded it but it kept telling me I needed to log in using Facebook (even after I had) which was really annoying.

Yeah, I got the idea after finding http://whothefuckismydndcharacter.com/ which uses the WTF Javascript engine but after filling a bunch of object literals with everything I could think of the results are often just goddamn nonsense. Sometimes you get something really cool like " Moody elf wizard from the little shop that wasn't there yesterday" or "Bossy half-beast police officer from the narrowest dirtiest allyways of the walled city" and other times you get something that doesn't quite work like "Bigoted skeleton musician from a shiny sterile corporation run police-state." Ideally I should be able to narrow it down to generate a cyberpunk character just as easily as I can get it to spit out "Conscientious robot drunk from the haunted castle at the edge of town."

So what I need is a method of switching on and off each list of items called by the function and a way to tag each item in a list to categorize them.

I've used a Dark Heresy character generator for some drawing inspiration. I've never even played Dark Heresy, but my love of 40k meant that creating a random character and then deciding on how their traits and beliefs might look was a fun thing to do.
