It's that time again. For some this'll be old hat, but for many it's a brand new experience. What am I talking about? Why it's the PAX International Food Exchange thread; ready, steady, and set to go for PAX East 2014. We're fast approaching t-minus 60 days until the glourious gaming event, so it seems like a good time to to get this ball rolling. I'm of course referring to those of us who whilst coming to PAX to share our love of games and gaming culture, also want to share our love of food and our desire to have those things we can’t normally touch; those prepared foods from far away foreign lands (like Canada, the UK, and ɐıןɐɹʇsnɐ) that travel well on airplanes. This thread is dedicated to the exchange of those foodstuffs.
Now if you're unfamiliar with this thread, you can check out the past five exchanges. Fair warning that they are high in fat, calories, sugar, and good times.
The Penny Arcade Expo International Food Exchange - PAX East 2011The PAX International Food Exchange - PAX Prime 2011The PAX East 2012 International Food Exchange (now with Retsin!)The PAX East 2013 International Food Exchange (How do you like your coffee?)The PAX Prime 2013 International Food Exchange (Do You Eat the Red Ones Last?)
In the past those threads resulted in many great meet-ups being arranged, and many delicious noms being om'd. We now have an official meet-up location and time for East. If you can't make it don't worry (be happy), just PM the person you want to meet and arrange time and place.
Yes. Yes it is. Jerks. England, you so mean
So what is the point of all this? Well this is the "official" thread for the exchange and delicious foods from all over. This is meant as an open forum to post what delicious noms you are bringing to PAX to share with your unfortunate American cousins, and for our awesome American hosts to make requests. Intra-Commonwealth transactions are also allowed of course. You can make exchanges, offer cash, or in the spirit of the PAX community simply share for the sake of sharing. It's your call. As this has come up in recent years you can also exchange alcohol via this thread, but be aware that drugs and alcohol are not allowed in PAX. You'll have to make other arrangements to swap.
Meet-up place and time:
Friday at 2 PM at the food booth tables by the queue to get swag bags (unless we need to change it).
Note: Please be aware of the laws for importing and exporting foods, both in your country of origin and destination. Links to the four main governing bodies we will be dealing with can be found here. Any others? Suggest them in thread and I'll add them.
U.S. Customs and Border ProtectionHM Revenue & CustomsCanada Border Services Agency (CBSA)Australian Customs and Border Protection Service
We can also take suggestions as to interesting things to take home, and probe around if a certain delicious nom is or isn't available in great USandA. It's all up to you. Happy trading, and we'll see you at PAX!
*** Hey cool I get to update the Kinder Surprise blurb! The Americans have their own pale imitation of Kinder Surprise now, that manages to exploit a loophole in the law. Note that the real Kinders are still banned, and can result in something akin to this. ***
Enjoy folks

also question can we have a separate alcohol trading thread or can we lump it in with this thread like previous years , i ask because i'm looking for 8-bit beer, its only available in the central us it seems. http://www.tallgrassbeer.com/beers/8-bit
also as i say every year.... i want poutine (will settle for cheese curds and canned gravy since some one was awsome enough to bring some last year)
if any one is looking for local east coast goodies let me know im an hour from boston
Had this at the Japanese tea garden in SanFran ... agree it is excellent ....
Best to leave this to guys and gals from Quebec .... as the best originates from there !!!! IMHO (says this Canadian east-coaster ...)
I think there is a place in Boston called Saus that sells this. Dont quote me on this.

Poutine is a hot entree. It's really not something that is worth trying to exchange for here. You can make it yourself - cheese curds, gravy and french fries are available everywhere in the US (your local gourmet market or Whole Foods will have curds) and it will be WAY more authentic if it's hot and fresh than with canned gravy and curds that have been in someone's suitcase for 2 days.
Just a suggestion.
Also, you want wacky sodas again? Last year you chose the safest one and then complained that it wasn't strange enough. I can help you with that this year
The credit goes to everyone else who has put together that meeting area over the years.
I never finish anyth

Putting out the call for "Pearson's Salted Nut Rolls" again since some of last years confusion and illness prevented me from being able to grab these for my wife. I can pay in cash or bring something from Canada in trade. We currently have a Limited edition Ketchup Doritos which are...interesting if anyone wants me to scoop a bag or two before they're gone.
If we're doing some sort of booze exchange, I've got things in mind, though I do believe we'll probably need to set that up as a separate meet in someone's hotel room again. My 2 cents is that we don't need a separate thread, but, do need to make it clear when/where and avoid some of last years issues with public trading.
On that same note, @lexicongrrl if its possible to nab at least one bottle of bounce at the least, I would be happy to have that to return home with. My cherry loving wife needs to try this at the least and I won't be able to take a trip out west until next spring it seems...
I'll PM you.
As usually I will be bringing some Ketchup and All Dressed Ruffles chips, and maybe a couple of Chocolate bars from Costo : Canadian Kit Kat, Canadian Smarties, Coffee Crisps and Aeros.
Someone always begs for some Mint Aeros. I will see what I can do.
o i know what poutine is, i always say it as a joke, hence why i will gladly take a few cans of gravy and some chase curds, i made it when i got home last year and OMFG WAS IT GOOD. lol the ginger one burned like hell but i like that sorta thing and will gladly take another, every one i let try it hated it they said it felt like their throats were on fire.
also i have looked for cheese curds and i just can never seem to find any and any one i ask just shows me cheese crumbles saying its the same thing when its not. as for the gravy i can't find any unless i just use normal brown gravy.
also i forgot to mention if any one is interested i can bring coffee syrup, for those who don't know its basically like chocolate syrup, you add it to milk to make coffee milk, its a rhode island thing
That said, if I do return, I will be bringing that classic Fesperman beef jerky that was a hit last year. I've also found a superb import candy store in my city that I will raid for unique sweets.
Has anyone ever encountered Larry the Cable Guy's brand of chips? They are pretty fantastic.
if you dont already have a ticket, its gonna be hard for you to find one now.
the only request i have is those doritos you had last time, the spicy one i loved, the lime one i didn't like very much, so let me know what you want in return for the rolled up spicy doretos
My requests:
-Kit Kats that aren't plain chocolate/white/dark chocolate. I'd love to try ginger ale and cookies and cream, but any would be great!
-Kinder Bueno White. This is by far the best candy I think I've ever had. I will pay for a stockpile of these.
-Anything hazelnut/white chocolate
Last year I had a few people asking for Winter Jack, which is a seasonal liquor. Last year it was only available in NH and Germany for test market, but now it should be easily found all over! If you aren't from the US and won't have time to stop at a packy, message me and we'll work it out. Same goes for the maple whiskey, Cabin Fever.
Okay, I just need to make a shout out for this to you peeples reading this thread. As someone who lives in a city with loads of import shops and access to most of what we trade on this thread, I got a bottle of coffee syrup last year and it's absolutely brand new: a unique East Coast regional specialty. If you're a West Coastie like me, take him up on this, it's really something you've never tried.
I can bring you curds....I live in the home of Beecher's Cheese. But my requests in return are oddly specific, given that one of the benefits of this city is a huge international import scene that covers most of my desires.
We have BNs in England again now, I think chocolate and vanilla maybe others not sure
I can bring bueno whites I brought some last year but missed the meet up. How many you looking at?
Because Vodka
You do know that I'm a distiller who makes vodka from fruit, right?
I have PAX tickets already, so no worries there.
If I come, I'll bring you a bag or two of those rolled up spicy Doritos (Doritos Dinamita Nacho Picoso for anyone interested in looking them up) for sure! No exchange necessary for you, I gotcha.
We did a beer exchange last year. Somebody should start a thread for that. Hint.
yeah i'm looking for 8 bit beer and other nerdy ones but i'll save it for that thread
yeah the store i work at has alot so i can scoop up a few small or larger bottles, the large bottles are only a little more than the smaller ones and 3 of the small ones equals a big bottle
honestly i want these for my dad hes been looking since we went to england in like 2002, so if i can get like 3 packs of chocolate he will be happy .... and i can steal one for me lol
let me know what you want, i currently don't know of any local import shops but i have a car and might go on some adventures , can you get access to the canned gravy
you didn't like that chocolate soda i got you, did you lol
It was interesting! It tasted like Tootsie Rolls, which is as advertised, but I don't crave it. x)
Let's remember the snafu that was caused as a result of the Beer Exchange, so let's have a Lessons Learned and not get the mods or authorities upset if we plan such a thing?
And I'm official. Plane tickets bought. I'll see all you fine people in two months!
Yeah, we're too far offsite this year too.
Aaaaand, back to food! Anybody want anything from Seattle? Wacky Japanese Candy? Craft Coffee? Deep Fried Tom Khah Flavored Korean Seaweed Snacks?
Deep fried tom khah flavored korean seaweed snacks? as in, thats a single thing and not multiple things and you missed a comma somewhere?
Yup. I love that shit.
(Correction: Tom Yum flavor, and they're Thai).
