Has anyone played the DQ4 port yet? It's on sale for $10 and I'm considering picking it up. I haven't played any of the main DQ games yet, so I'm not too interested in "if you've played it before, blah blah blah" or "it's better/worse than this other version" impressions. Just curious how playable it is on mobile and if it's worth grabbing.
Vain Glory is still awesome, but the people who play it mostly aren't. Every second game at least one player quits or just sits there. Why join a match if you aren't going to play? I hope this garbage stops soon, cause I would like to keep playing, but it is infuriating that so many matches end up just being a pointless waste of time due to quitters.
I just grabbed an iPad mini 2 as part of some Black Friday shenanigans and I never want to play a game on my phone again. I'm shocked at how much I like it, but I think it's the perfect size for me. Full blown iPads are way too big.

I wish I had firsthand experience with that one. I've heard good things. Just note that all iOS DQ games are locked into portrait mode. Those ones could be better suited for phones since the controls are intended to be ome handed. DQ felt and played great, but 4 adds camera control to the mix, so I can't say.
On the Dragon Quest note, a patch for DQII just went live that I assume fixes the frequent crashes when you talk to some NPC's that made this version next to unplayable.

I managed to pull out a win 2v3 earlier today as Glaive - I went 18-11, solo capped the Kraken, and ended up taking the enemy crystal with about 3% health left (while our crystal had no turrets and one support guy trying desperately to defend it).
It wasn't as fun as playing a "real" match but I do now feel like whatever happens with the rest of the day, I accomplished something.

@hlprmnky do you think this would be a good replacement for the basically-dead Solstice Arena?

Ya, the one good thing is that it does feel like you have more of a chance playing 2vs3 than any other moba, if you play really well.

Absolutely; I'd even consider it better than Fates Forever, which replaced Solstice Arena as my one installed iOS MOBA awhile ago.

Thanks for the info. What I've been able to find about it indicates it's a worthwhile purchase. Just bought $200 in iTunes cards for $150, so fuck it. Maybe they'll have updated it for native iPhone 6 support by the time I get around to playing it.

I did something similar. I was playing as saw, and my team was down to 2 players almost from the beginning. Towards the end, the other person on my team dropped out too, but at that point the other team's turrets were mostly gone and I also solo'd the Kraken.
I think I mostly got lucky that the other team just didn't know how to play. It did feel pretty cool to more or less have a solo victory, though.
I haven't played it on iOS yet, but I played it back when on the PC, and it was a lot of fun. I'd recommend everyone grabbing it today while they can. (It looks like the second and third chapters are actually in-app purchases, so to get the free price you'll want to start up the game and "purchase" those today)

The new Kingdom Rush is a lot of fun, at least in my opinion. It's a solid Tower Defense game with great presentation, and enough variety in the maps to make many of the stages feel unique. There's some valid criticism about the fact that there are only 4 tower types, but in my experience, between every tower having 2 specializations, different upgrades to pick in their final stages, and all the one-off towers that show up, I still feel like I have plenty of choices I can make while playing.
I wouldn't consider it a good game to binge on, but it's a pleasant way to spend half an hour here and there.
Spent about 5 minutes with DQ4, which isn't long enough to get a feel for the game aside from the controls. Controls are actually pretty great. Works very well one handed. You can adjust the size of the virtual dpad. Default size is fine, but I chose to go a size lower.
Don't know if native iPhone 6/6+ support will ever be added, but the game looks just fine on the 6. No black borders or anything like that.
I bought Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and I just don't like it. It makes my iPad Air choke unless I turn the resolution down a ton and the controls are just so... finicky. I really wanted to like this.

It's way fun, and there's nothing at all "wrong" with it. I would have just liked to see something truly new for the third iteration of the game. They pretty much stuck with their winning formula, and while they did some interesting things with their maps, which are much bigger and fairly dynamic, they didn't take any chances on any truly groundbreaking mechanics. On the one hand, it can make their formula a bit stale. On the other, more of what made the first two games great is still great.
My wife has become hooked in the Ace Attorney games on the iPad. She downloaded the triple pack and I see that the fifth game is also available. I can't find the Apollo Justice game though. Is it a DS exclusive?

It is. It's in a weird little limbo since it wasn't led by the creator of the series. It's a solid game that's entirely worth playing though. Especially before 5 to make sense of character stuff.
Anyone familiar with the performance hit from iOS 8 on older devices (namely ipad 2s)? Namely, is the performance hit in apps as well, or just on the stuff I can find in articles, namely OS level animations like rotation, text input, and safari.
I use an iPad 2 and haven't noticed any issues with the various games I play, but none of them are all that system intensive. There was a noticeable performance hit in Safari for some reason, but that was mostly negated with the patch from the last week or so.
I can't speak to 8 specifically, but previous updates that were pushing the limits on older devices only took a hit on the system side of things. In-game was usually the same experience.
Aside: Crossy Road is a lot of fun, though the void that is my Game Center friends list kind of hampers things.
Well shoot. I tried to do the update, but now it's frozen on the install screen. Can't even get itunes to do a system restore since that requires confirmation on the ipad
Doing the hold the home and power button thing fixed it. Yeah, this is definitely a lot less responsive, but still more or less usable

YES! I also love Crossy Road. Add me to your friends! I'm "Rothgarr" (I think... if it doesn't come up, it's "Turgid Willy").

Yeah, add me too for Crossy Road. Haven't actually started playing yet but have been meaning to, so this is as good of an excuse as any to start. Game Center tag is Bullio Marf.
I think I'm missing something in Crossy Road. You can tap to go forward and back, but is swiping really the only way to move sideways? It's really hard to move fast enough just by swiping.
I was checking the SE store page to see if they ever bothered to update TWEWY for iOS8 (they did not) and there was DQ III staring me in the face. This one is $10 and makes the jump to 16-bit.
WTF is up with that stupid, random eagle? I can't seem to understand what I'm doing that's triggering it. It just feels like it just occasionally shows up to shit on your game.

Feelin' pretty pressured to upgrade, no lie.
You can still install it manually and it'll run fine. Instructions

Time to buy all the games.
There's a shitload of things on sale for black Friday.
The two older Kingdom Rush games
Record of Agarest War and Spectral Souls
Superbrothers
Table Tennis Touch
Star Horizon
Banner Saga
Almightree
Gonna be busy for a while.
