Yeah, I'm not sure why they chose to have the map be like the doom 3 flashlight. Playing now on PC if anyone wants to Hunter group it up.

I basically always have the map up until Thunderdome time. Maybe when you know the whole map like the back of your hand it's better to have full vision, but in that case why not just make the map a toggle-off option?

Yes, by waiting around a corner stealthed.

One big issue with the pounce is that sometimes people can knock you off of themselves, if they're shooting you as you pounce. Markov with the lightning gun seems a particular problem.

Ambushing hunters is pretty easy. You've got Xray vision, and they're in a rush to find you. It's pretty amazing how well something like a bush can hide the Monster, against Hunters in a hurry.

The thing is catching Hunters that are isolated enough for ambush to matter. Doesn't do much good to pounce the lead Hunter if his buddies are right behind him. But it's frequently useful to climb on top of spires and pounce them when they follow, or circle around behind the Hunters and pounce a straggler.

Kraken is so ridiculous that I was in a game where the game was hitching to an incredible degree (as in, half-second pauses in gameplay) and I got trapped at level 1, had the game freeze for like five seconds while the hunters pounded on me... and I still ended up winning.

Having 2 bars of health doesn't matter if I'm sniping you from way over here! With Banshee Mines. Because I can't aim. Because of the game hitching.

Yeah just played a game where at level 1 we trapped a Kraken and he killed us all.

Yeah, I just had another match where it was basically my Lazarus and a Maggie against the Hunter, because our other two players were too dumb to even keep up with the chase and quit out. So we faced down an S3 Goliath with max health and armor, with just me and Maggie.

Took 10-15 minutes, but we actually won, with human players coming in at the last couple of minutes. I got nine back-from-the-dead rezzes, and there's just not much the Monster can do about it; if he camps the corpse, he gets shredded for standing there, if he chases after us, I get to rez. It had to be incredibly frustrating for the Monster and, frankly, I find Lazarus easy enough that he's just plain boring. Jet-dash past allies every now and again to throw out a heal burst, cloak if the Monster comes after you, rez somebody when they go down and Monster goes after somebody else. You can actually have two people down at once, and the rez will recharge fast enough for you to get up one guy (turns out there's no 15 second limit, it's much longer than that), wait shortly, and get up the second player. Then the Monster finishes off whoever they were chasing and now faces 3/4 of a full team, and shortly after that, an entire team because you pop up the 4th player in short order.

Even his weakness-generating sniper rifle is better. It's got a large magazine, is semi-auto, is silenced and leaves no trail so you don't draw much attention, and, while the weak points it makes aren't as good as the armor-piercing rifle, who gives a shit when the Monster is literally covered in weak points such that anybody shooting at the Monster is dealing extra damage? I'm talking 15-20 of these things.

So playing as Laz has done nothing to convince me that he has a reasonable skillset. He definitely needs balance, because the rez device is absurdly good.

god dammit I *knew* that was going to happen with lazarus. and you can't eat the body either because you get shot while doing so and knocked out of the eating animation.
I think my Game Name will be ''LazPicked-Iquit"

Yes, I would hazard that you were right; I've been tracking my stats, and I've taken 2 of 20 matches against Laz tonight. By comparison, I've taken 25 of 30 games against Val.

Strikes are just so important, and Laz just nopes it all away. It's all but impossible to get 2 strikes against anybody by the time Stage 2 is over, which is a Big Deal when you're at 50% red health or less. Also, he has a bullshit weapon; semi-auto fire weak point application melts your armor faster than Markov's lighting gun.

I'm tempted to quit every time I see him, but the game's lobby times are so ridiculous. :|

Played with friends some more, had a glorious moment while playing as a support. We were chasing the Monster(at level 2 but already down to 2/3rds of it's health) after getting a glimpse of it, I cloaked and went looking for it and found it eating. I pinged it out to my buddies, waited for them to catch up and two of us engaged it and the Monster ran North; right into my friend on the trapper who headed it off and threw down the Arena as soon as we said it was running north and caught it. It was a nice kill after that.

We all agree the game is fun, but our concern is mix of "Is this game going to have longevity?" and "Is it worth 60 bucks each?" We're struggling to justify the game at that price point, if the game was $20-$30 maybe even 40, it's an easy sell but it's not.

If they keep the $60 price point, they're going to need way more game modes and characters and maps.

You have to be crouched down first. It auto-targets within its functional range and puts a red ring around what you will hit, but enemies can move out of range before you land and the pounce will whiff. Works on animals and stuff as well, so you can kill them without making a ton of noise or catch them before they can escape.

It's actually what I tend to use to bring down Daisy at the end of matches, since she can't shoot you to knock you out of the pounce.

As far as content we know is coming down the pipeline, there is:

    - A third Hunter for each class.
    - A third monster (and possibly a 4th as DLC)
    - More maps

Unsure about game modes... but honestly, this is a pretty focused game. You're a hunter or a monster, you hunt each other down, that's the game.

It's not proof, but a popular streamer (Sacriel) has said that other game modes will be in the final version. He's actually been to their studios to play the game, so it's worth a bit more than the average word of mouth rumor.

  • GarthorGarthor Registered User regular
I find it bemusing that there's debate over whether there's going to be other game modes when in the very game it says "FIND GAME (HUNT)". As in, the Hunt game mode.

For dealing with Laz, I just make sure to have a knockback ready to use at the corpse every 5 seconds or so.
EG. As Goliath, once someone is down, I'll chase someone else for a few seconds, turn around and leap smash/charge onto the downed person to try to hit Laz (or whoever else is trying to res the downed player). Whoever was shooting me will have to scramble forward to hit me again or else be ineffective. If I get a hit on Laz, I combo him with my other abilities which will usually take out a good chunk of his hp.
As Kraken, I save Vortex/Lightning for the downed person and spam my regular shots + banshee mines at others while juking in the air.

My last statement isn't question, it's a declaration of fact; if the game needs more gameplay modes and more maps and more characters if it wants to justify it's price.

At no point do I question if there's going to be more of everything, just the question if those extra modes and maps and whatnot change the calculus enough that it goes from "Not worth it." to "Worth it." The worry is that if we payed 60 bucks for it, we'd(me and my friends) would play for about a month and get bored and stop playing, and we'd like to get more out of our buck than that.

After about 7 matches I finally got my first win as the monster though it was still kinda close (17:34 minutes, should've ended earlier but I lost track of one hunter in the fight (or maybe it was the dog?) with the rest dead and ended up just going to Level 3). Took me forever to really learn how to properly sneak around (didn't realize it was a toggle). In a way, it's like playing the Mario Chase game in Nintendo Land and I think my girlfriend telling me that as she watched me play helped me start thinking and acting the same way I'd play that game, which I think helped. The other thing that kept getting to me was I'd try to climb something and fail, falling back down, which was terrible during fights.

I really need some sort of solo playground mode so I can learn maps/npc monsters better. I see all these random flashing tips in-game and don't have time to properly digest it.

Last game of mine this alpha testing. I gotta leave for work tomorrow.

Was a great game, I almost felt sorry for the hunters.

I played a different tact this game. Instead of running and getting immediate distance between us, I immediately crouched and just went off into the columns. The hunters were fucking dumbfounded, even with Maggie and her dumb dog. I ran them over every crock and steamadon I could find, while snagging 1 and 2 meat foods. Maggie and Val found me at S2 and I proceeded to rip them in half. So much so that I didn't lose any health, only armor. I almost TPK'd them then and there but that damn dog and Griff got away, so instead of chasing them down for a minute, I went on unmolested and ate my fill to get rank 3

I just got enough to level up when I was chased again. I needed distance so I could evolve. My guess was that this was a newish group, so I found a little hidey hole and chanced the evolve in the hopes they would turn around and run to the relay. It worked. Markov was literally 10 steps from rounding a corner and finding me freshly molted and emerged, turned around and went to the relay. I spent about a minute hunting to get more armor then proceeded to the relay, stalking and hunting all the way. Maybe I'd catch one apart and just kill them. No one. Ok fine, don't want to get eaten I'll knock out the relay. I was unmolested until about 5% left on the relay then they decided to attack. I hurt them, downed a guy, and before my armor was gone, I jumped away from the room.

I found the tyrant outside the station, and his perk gave me 35% attack power. Baby you complete me. Stalked back to the station, 2:30 left on the clock. Stomped a 2strike Griff into oblivion, he's dead. Charged a wounded Markov and burnt him to downed. Proceeded to smash Maggie into bits, the dog revives Markov, I kill him and val somehow with spraying fire everywhere. Chased the dog down and killed it.

It was almost textbook Predator. I was in control the entire match unlike most times, I'm running for my life.

Wow you guys were right about terrible pubs.
I was unfortunately saddled with this team after destroying them for 2 rounds as a monster. At the start of the game, we land, and they all shoot off in one direction. There weren't many tracks (the monster jumped away) but they certainly weren't pointing in that direction. So I say

    "Guys I don't think it's that way"

    "Do you have tracks?"

    "No, but neither do you"

Eventually I found tracks, far away from their position, I call it out and start pinging, I find the monster, I corner the monster, I throw up the dome.

    I'm alone.

I check the map? They're still trying to find the monster.

We had one weird weird game.

Could not find the monster anywhere, and we're waiting for the dreaded stage 2 message, but it never game. I think we saw maybe a glimpse of him once, but it was like perma-sneak mode and tracks were sparse.

Then we get a mesage that the monster had died.

Checking the post game replay, we were being followed the whole time. He just stayed at arm's length away from us and constantly trailed us. I think he died fighting an elite monster or something.

I had one game where I spawned as the "monster" but was literally nothing. No model, no health (a sliver of health, out of 2 health bars), nothing. My only means of interacting with the world was scaring birds.

I ran around for a bit, confused the hunters a little, and then quit.

I used to think that you really had to be at stage 3 to decisively beat the team of hunters.
But boy, when you play with pubs you can do it pretty easily at stage 2. I should stop wasting time trying to evolve, just get to stage 2, armor up and go to town on them.

I think there's also a lot of players that aren't aware that if you drop the trapper down, the shield falls. They always seem so surprised and panicked when they are my first target in a dome.

The thing I've consistently heard about fighting a Kraken is you -have- to thunderdome and kill it before it hits stage 2 or you pretty much instant lose unless the kraken player is afk. From what I saw I think the kraken has a wee bit too much health for what its niche is. It shouldn't be able to tank shit like the Goliath can.

Whenever I use them, they're broken instantly, or they never even activate in the first place (I presume they're caught in aoes and destroyed?) however, when I'm the monster and a Maggie uses them, I'm constantly held in place by no less than 2-3, and I can't actually break free. Either the game prompts me to break the harpoon and I can't seem to do it, or I don't get a prompt at all and can't break free.

I prefer Griffin to Maggie, but those harpoon traps are fucking crippling.

    What gives?
