Good lord it's good there's no new profession.

Hopefully they don't add any more in until they make even half of the current ones actually useful.

I'm not really sure they could add one in at this point because there really isn't anything it could fill. They'd be better off taking any bits and pieces and figuring out how to add them to an existing profession.

At least with another class, they could probably add one more in, without it seeming too much like an existing class. A ranged dps that isn't a spell caster - think petless hunter, with both a tank and healing spec that rely on a pet. Probably how they could get tinkerer to work as a class, but I think they could really only get one more in before they start running into the problem of "okay so what's difference between Class A and Class N again, other than having different names, different graphics and different weapon options? In fact, why did you add Class N in? Sure people demanded it but it's such a fucking let down now since it plays like Class A."

New races are probably the easiest thing to get away with, but after worgen, goblin and panda. I'm not really liking the approach with the starter zones. I get why they do it. Still kind of rubs me the wrong way since those zones end up being restricted to a certain race and then have a level range restriction as well. So if one doesn't like Panda's, they don't even have the option of running a different class through that zone, if they are bored of the other ones.

Honestly, I'd love to see some more specializations added for classes instead of adding in more classes themselves. Give priests their holy DPS spec they've always wanted, hunters maybe a pet tanking class, etc.

In other news, your daily dose of what the hell. (teaser from the upcoming book that tells the story that should have been in game.)

I wish they could figure out a way that made my Drums not cause the rest of my raid to instantly hate me every time I play them. I'm not a Mage guys but I'm trying :(

But they seem to be unable to. If they're worse than regular lust, everyone thinks they're a DPS loss (cause they are). If they're as good as regular lust, people bitch that they enable raids to just replace the underperforming Lust-capable class with a crafted item. And they can't be better than Lust or else why make Lust in the first place? We also can't have Drums which do things that no class is capable of, cause apparently that results in raids expecting a Leathworker and thus it's a mandatory requirement (this reasoning seems to not apply to Warlock Cookies & Portals) which is seemingly bad.

I had an idea of how they can fix tradeskills. Using blacksmithing as an example:

The first thing is usefulness. The pieces of armor you craft should operate in the same fashion Heirlooms do in the way of scaling along with you in level when they become soulbound (but without the XP bonus obviously). Copper breastplate can take you to level 20ish max, and it'll stop scaling, but by then you can craft a Bronze breastplate, which will take you to the next threshold, and you repeat. The scaling will at least let you stay ahead of the gearing curve a bit, a benefit, and by scaling you don't have to fuddle around with tons and tons of repetitive recipes.

The next thing to fix is the 75 ranks per level of tradeskill. Dropping it to 50 points per tier would help quite a bit. I dunno what this will mean in terms of required materials, that's the math I don't want to bother figuring out, but whatever. It'd create less bullshit clutter on the AH. Crafting 20 of the same item is stupid.

Last thing is to address the loss of gear designs. All the chest armor fit for the level 1 to 20 range you can craft should produce the same thing stat-wise (maybe even have it work on WoD's tech where your armor will adjust stats based on your spec), but then you can choose what the design will look like. Give some value to crafting things with particular looks and putting it on the AH for transmogs even.

Wow, what an announcement. Blizzard will definitely be getting more money from me... in D3:RoS and possibly Heroes of the Storm(and maybe WoW again once the expansion is cheaper :)).

I'd be cool with more specialization options added in, provided the new spec filled a gameplay type (tank, healer, ranged dps, melee dps) not already filled by an existing spec. I kind of think one of the mistakes they made was creating classes where two or all of the class's specs filled the same gameplay type, since that opened the door to lots of bitching about how X, Y and sometimes Z needed to do equal dps/heals (impossible to do) or only the best one would be viable (even if that would be possible in robot land with zero latency and clairvoyance). Granted the setup probably made more sense in Vanilla and TBC where we did have PvP specs and I'm guessing the devs considered leveling specs. Though to be fair, you see that shit with dps shamans and druids, but I don't think it gets as much consideration, as the whining about pure classes because gameplay and raid mechanics really do make the experience between melee and range rather different (assuming Blizz doesn't erode the niche for one).

That's not to say I don't think there isn't a different gameplay difference between pure specs, but a good player could easily jump through the hoops required to respec an arcane mage into a fire mage and have it properly geared, without having too much of an effect on raid strategy. Whether or not that player would be happy about respecing and regearing, would be another issue. If fire mages and arcane mages were two separate classes, I doubt there would be nearly as much bitching about a difference in dps between the two (as long as it's small) because no one could make the excuse of "but the RL will force me to respec and regear to get more dps."

As for professions, I'd love for them to find a way to make them more relevant. Trying to think how they could do that though. I can certainly agree, that we don't need more cases of "you need to use something/service from X profession before this is ready to use" and I'm glad they are scaling it back, but I'm sure they could do something. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want them to go with an approach that gives us more consumables to juggle around (hell, I'm not really happy with how potions are working out since none throughput ones might as well not exist in raid and pre-potting is BS - for that matter not really happy with stat elixers either). Might be sold on more consumables if it's something done before the a pool and is friendly towards learning a new fight like elixirs are. Convenience would be a great way to make them more relevant. Would be kind of cool if the appropriate crafting profession could repair the appropriate gear types of others, maybe require that some raw mats are used in the process (for ex. Blacksmiths can fix plate, LW can fix mail and leather, JCs fix jewelry, enchanters/scripes/engineers could fix trinkets, tailors could fix cloth and cloaks, engineers could also fix guns/bows/crossbows, scibes could also fix off-hands that aren't shield, and enchanters could fix staffs/wands). Maybe even run with the idea that raid bosses and raid trash could drop items that a specific profession could restore into a usable condition and/or use to upgrade trash epics. Vanity items would be another good area. I think it would be kind of cool if they added several transmogrification recipes (JC/BS/LW/Tailor/Eng could all make stylized armor. JC/BS/Eng/Enchanter could do stylized weapons. JC/Scribe/enchanter could make items that create permanent effects - think item color or visualize effects. Hell, the visual engine is working nicely enough that we might be able to do visible rings and necklaces - also I'd be fine with JC doing earrings, provided they never become a stat slot).

Edit: Henroid, yeah, I think some crafted BoA stuff that becomes soulbound when equipped would do wonders for the crafting professions. I'd be okay, if they felt a need to put a CD on the recipe and require a bunch of mats, to keep people from flooding the AH. They certainly need to fix the issue where both world greens and most crafted gear are made irrelevant by quest greens. I also wouldn't mind see at least a little more of the crafted blue stuff being on par with equal level normal 5man gear. I get they can't have too much of the crafted gear being close to competing with dungeon gear, but I think they could add a little more or at least allow ways for professions to upgrade some stuff because not every BiS item needs to drop off a boss, just most of it.

I also feel that they might feel better; especially, since were talking 10 lvls per expansion again, if they only had 50 skill points instead of 75.

Then in mop they had it in every zone.

Hit 90 yesterday woot! And then went to that glorious yet deadly island...as a prot tank. Wow that was eye opening. I went after a 91 elite adder right off the bat. Woulda been dead in no time if it wasn't for a passing priest. First loot from the chest behind him? Epic gloves! I got my gear up to ilvl 470 yesterday with 3-4 heroic runs and some isle questing/looting. 4 pieces of 496 epics in a matter of no time.

90 boosts were all over yesterday. I don't know how they made heroics so quickly but i had a dude who never played a monk before healing me. I've been thinking of finally making my enhancement shaman but don't see how I can get that ilvl gear so quickly.

Also, running heroics with people with raid lvl gear makes the DPS ridiculous. Reminds me of my BC days when my rogue was a god on the server. Felt invincible and doubled dps of others. As a tank now I really appreciate it. Now that I have the ilvl to do LFR i'm extremely nervous to jump in especially as a tank.

    Question:
-Seems like a DPS class is the way to go for solo farming on the Isle. Trying to tank down those big mobs is tough. Finding a person to run the Isle with = most prosperous?
-How are professions going to work with this 90 boost. Seems like getting a toon to 90 instantly is going to cost about 15-20k gold. Just with gearing it from the vendor, flight purchases, etc. I assume that 90 boost doesn't come with a 400 boost in whatever professions you desire?
-I feel like a chicken with my head cut off on that isle, should I focus on grinding out mobs, searching for chests or stick with running heroics/lfr for gear?

As you've discovered, many of the mobs on the island are not tank and spank and will quickly kill you if you don't watch out for their mechanics. The adders do 25% of your maximum health in damage at the end of their 3 second cast, so you'll have to stun or kite them, or just kill them before they can kill you.

The boost comes with a set of 483 ilvl gear.

Yeah, DPS is definitely the best way to go for solo farming. None of the mobs auto-attack too hard, and some don't auto-attack at all.

The boost comes with 483 gear, 280 flying (including all the regional skills) and a mount, and 4 22-slot bags.

If your character was already 60+ your professions get boosted to 600, otherwise there's no profession bonus.
-I feel like a chicken with my head cut off on that isle, should I focus on grinding out mobs, searching for chests or stick with running heroics/lfr for gear?
Heroics are useless for gear. Run around the isle picking up chests (Here's a guide), most of which are one time only. Once you've gotten all those you should be mostly or completely 496 geared, but if you need more you can kill mobs for additional tokens. Once you're fully 496 you can head into LFR.

You could just use the boost to level up another character? If / when I buy the pre-release, I'm most likely going for a warrior, mainly because I'm quite interested in giving tanking a try. I am slightly disappointed that there isn't a little zone that will tell me how to play my spec / class in the first place, but hey ho, with any luck, the 2 guys I end up doing alot with, will also boost some characters to 90 and we can make a great show of now knowing what to do.

Also, that elite adder you attacked on Timeless Isle does a fairly constant attack that knocks off 25% of your health. I'd honestly avoid attacking those (their agro range is incredibly small; you more or less have to stand on them) as any kind of melee.

Oh yeah, i'm definitely going to use it to play with an Enhance Shammy (my main in BC days). I'm not actually mad at the notion of the boost, i think it's great to get others involved in the game. And I can understand where they're coming from dropping some gear on em. I think it's just funny how I've worked pretty hard to get my warrior to a mildly respectable low lvl 90 and it can be instantly replaced (NOT IN MY HEART O.o ) by a geared up purchase.

I essentially could have waited to lvl this 90 until they released the boosting, boosted my warrior to 90 and be better off than where I am now. That being said, I really enjoyed the questing, the dungeon finder, the new areas, the refurbished areas. Things I think a lot of new players will miss out on if they boost to 90. Or even returning players for that matter.

Things I look forward to when I get home from work? Unlocking that shammy, then realizing all these things I'm saying now are stupid and wrong. Lol. How does getting around the world work with the 90? I assume I can start in one of the major cities, IF-SW-Darn. Then take the blimp to MOP. But I still won't have flight to get to Timeless Isle. people have been predicting a fall release forever (it was the only timeline that made any sense really), so it wasn't that surprising. I would've been much more blown away if they'd claimed they were going to release in july or something.

I probably won't pre-buy WoD until a bit before it launches cause I plan to take a break pretty much as soon as we finish off garrosh, but can anybody who has bought it explain how the boost works in terms of account management? Like, do I just get a token that I can save until whenever or do I have to boost a character right then?

Welp. Seems like my guild is falling apart, or something. We lost our other tank due to real life reasons, we lost our Resto Shaman (who was also our Healing Lead) because of... reasons, I guess. Something about frustration over lack of progression, I think. We've lost a lot of people recently, but losing a tank and healer is hard to recover from. I think we're probably going to go on hiatus til Warlords, which sucks. Guess I won't be able to get to 14/14H.

I'm not sure what to do myself, either. I really like this guild, everyone's super cool, it's a fun atmosphere... But on the otherhand, we've had a serious standstill with progression as of late, we've had so many people coming and going, and things are looking kind of bleak. If I do want to find another guild, it probably won't be on this server? I say that because our server isn't super great for progression or recruitment. We have one guild that's at 12/14H, three guilds at 11/14H, one guild at 10/14H, one at 9, one at 8, and then it just kind of drops off there. Either way, it's super hard to find a new guild as a Tank, despite being at 11/14H. I might try one of the other 11/14H guilds, but I'm not sure they need a Tank. Hmm.

Fuck, man. Not sure what I'm gonna do.

That stinks, is there still a guild progression website? I joined my guild when it was lvl 8 and have been there to get it to 25 but in the meantime, we have very few 90s (new player server). I'm torn between joining a new guild that already has content beat or being on a guild i helped start and downing content myself. Not to mention the raiding requirements in those progressive guilds. Does seem like things are a bit more chill in MOP compared to the BC craze.

So please please please fly to the Shrine and make that your Hearth before you do anything else.

Apparently there was a hotfix to change it so you do start in shrine now?

I know someone in my guild got something like 200 bloody coins without moving just by spamming attacks at the point where the boosted 90s spawn in.

You start with a hearthstone bound to the shrine.

Yeah, that was perhaps the dumbest idea Blizz ever had.

I especially don't understand why the city guards there don't attack people with the censor on.

I am shocked-- Shocked !!-- that a WOW player would behave like this.

    EDIT- No I'm not.

I wouldn't say it's the dumbest idea. The general idea behind the censor itself is probably dumber, especially limiting it to a PvE zone.

Almost everything involved with the writing lately for all the games is probably the dumbest.

I'm excited to hear about the healing changes. They are reducing the rate at which healers can heal people so it won't feel like people get one shotted as often. They're nerfing absorbs and they need to do that but it's a double nerf since absorb healers have lower throughput so I wonder if it will go too far in the other direction. Right now as a healing priest disc is overpowered I wonder if holy will be the better spec this expansion because of the double whammy nerf to absorb healing.
