Just putting it back in here I'm still trying to unload my two GTX 670s 2GB, these cards are great and if anyone is looking for a decent upgrade on the cheap I'd gladly ship to just about anywhere and will sell for less than the $150 I'm listing them at on eBay.
Tube, is it the monitor that is set as primary in the OS or is it the monitor plugged into a specific port on the GPU? It's not outside the realm of possibility that the port is messed up somehow.
Can someone help me? I wanted to try dual booting steam os on my computer with an old ide hd. My main drive is a sata ssd and now I'm trying to connect the old drive but when I turn on the computer doesn't see the ssd. I tried to fix the boot order but the ssd isn't showing up. When I disconnect the ide drive, it shows back up. Am I missing something?
So a while ago, the hard drive on my Lenovo x220 died, so I installed an mSATA drive.
Today I tried to install a second hard drive for storage in the original SATA, but it's not being recognized (as in, not detected at all). I think that the connection might be fried.
Question: If I have a second identical x220 except for serial numbers, then could I transfer the mSATA from one laptop to the other and just use that?

Yep. Shouldn't be an issue except for the serial being wrong

Try plugging the HDD in another port?

I just asked the IT guy in my office and he suggested connecting the IDE HD by disconnecting my DVD drive and putting the HD at the end of the ribbon instead of the middle. I'll try to have a go with it tonight and see what happens. Thanks.

If you are putting two IDE devices on one cable, one needs to be set as master and one as slave. Or both need to be set to Cable Select and you need to use an IDE cable that supports CS. Check the devices for jumpers that set master/slave mode or cable select mode.
Pulled the trigger on a Lenovo Y50. It should be here by end of the week, so I can start tweaking it for my upcoming work trip.
Now to try to find someone willing to pay me for my 2008 MBP.
I've had a ton of luck selling my old MBP's on eBay; a quick look tells me you could maybe get $400 or so for it (not a ton, but for a 6 year old computer, not bad)-

You can check what channel everyone around you is using with any of a bunch of free phone or pc apps. If a bunch of them are, swap to an unused one. Try to stay on 1/6/11, but if you can't, go for like 3/4/8/9
What's a good iPhone one? The ones in the App Store just seem like weird calculators.
I finally found one. The only other wifi networks near my router are on channel 6 and channel 11. But keeping my router on channel 6 seems to get me the best speeds at my PC in the bedroom.
Next step for me is to try and move my router closer to the bedroom, and maybe that'll improve the speeds I'm getting there.
I'm shockingly out of the loop with desktop upgrades. I've had an 8800 GT sitting in my PC now for around 8 years. It has done a sterling job, but is finally starting to struggle and the BSOD count is rising.
I admit, I'm a little clueless on graphics cards these days and finding it a little overwhelming while nosing around at them. I'm wondering if anyone has any particular recommendations of cheap, quality upgrades to an 8800 GT that wouldn't break the bank? Something that is probably a few years old now, but would be a logical and decent next step.

Can you give a maximum spend? There's a few cards with excellent bang-for-buck properties, but they cover a fairly decent price range. There's a bunch of shiny new Nvidia cards in the middle of dropping, so if you can hold out a little while something might come out of that too.
Man I feel dumb. Apparently the Nvidia 900 series came out on September 19th. I thought they came out this week. I was wondering why they were all sold out so fast /sigh
Hey quick question about installing SSDs in laptops. I don't have the laptop in my hands (gotta pick it up from the office) but presumably the bay it goes in should come with it's own tiny power and SATA connectors? I don't need to buy any?
Well, it's 11 fans not including the acx coolers on the video cards. I might be trying some overclocking later, perrrrrrhaps.
Is that a fan on the RAM? Are you overclocking the RAM? At this point it just sort of seems like you like the sound of fans.
It is! And I haven't yet but I want to see what they can do too.
As for sound, everything is pretty quiet actually. Until I do something that stresses things then things start whirring. But still not as loud as my previous case. Like, not even close.

You should be able to just take the old drive out and slide the new one in, no problem. Unless your laptop manufacturer is insane.

You guys have any strong allegiances to fan manufacturers? Mine are brutally loud and I'd like to swap them out for something quieter. Just the stock fans that came with my NZXT Switch 810 case in it now, plus the Antec Khuler fans.
Between you and me, Peggy, I smoked this Juul and it did UNTHINKABLE things to my mind and body...
Well this thing has an actual second bay from what I read in the reviews. But I'm now home and have it so I'll take a look and see
Boo the commenter had gotten the GP70 confused with the GT70. It does not in fact have an additional bay.
Though maybe I'll just buy one of those DVD bay SSD caddies....
I actually like the sound of fans. I have a hard time sleeping if my computer is off.
When I turn my computer off before bed, it just sounds unnatural.
I always have a fan running at night during the summer. Then once fall hits it's objectively too cool to need it but it takes me a really long time to adjust to not having the white noise.
Noctua is, I think, still the premier brand for powerful yet silent case fans. You just have to deal with their color schemes. Thermalright also makes some really good ones, which are the ones I ended up picking up because I didn't want brown and tan fans in my black and red case.

I've heard great things about Noctua, but yes they are ass-ugly. Thermaltake, i'll look into that. Thanks!

I'm patiently waiting for third party cards to hit Amazon since I have amazon prime. Soon!
Do you pay tax in your state for Amazon? Newegg typically takes like 3 business days anyway.

Their super eggsaver shipping is $6 and is 4-7 business days. I don't pay tax in my state for Amazon.

They both make fans, but Thermalright is the one that makes the ones I'm using.
