School me on iTunes Match, can I stream without downloading to iOS?
Anyone use iTunes Match or know a lot about it? I'm contemplating signing up for it, but I have two three questions.
A) My understanding is that when you play a song on an iOS device (iphone in my case) it downloads a local copy as it streams the song. Can this be disabled? Can I have it only ever stream songs, and not slowly fill up my storage with local copies?
2) If it 'matches' a file that I have that was not purchased through itunes, if I download that elsewhere (like my iphone for example), what format am I getting it in? I can't imagine I'm getting it in DRM free mp3.
iii) Any other stupid hidden pitfalls? I don't want to accidentally overwrite my current MP3s with some DRM'd proprietary format. If I add MP3s on one computer, and some other MP3s from another computer, can I consolidate them in some easy fashion?

A) It may have used to be like this (I'm not sure), but currently the default is to stream your music. If you want to download a local copy, you need to manually tap the download icon besides the song or album (or playlist) name.
2) I'm pretty sure it's DRM free.
iii) If both computers are linked to the same iTunes Store account and iTunes Match is enabled on both, you should have no problem. The only problem I sometimes encounter is a random song won't play for some reason. Restarting the music app is usually sufficient to solve the problem. Apple's cloud services are not the best, so expect a few glitches like that.
I personally think iTunes Match is worth my money. I (stupidly) got a 16 GB iPad and I can't fit any music on it. I rely on iTunes Match and on Home Sharing to listen to music on it. I'm also waiting for iTunes Radio to launch in Canada so I can enjoy it ad-free as an iTunes Match subscriber.

If I have it and make a playlist on my phone (while my PC is off or iTunes is not open) will iTunes create the playlist for me next time I open it up on my PC? I would subscribe to match just for that because I am tired of my playlists getting fucked up every time I sync my phone.
Everything I've read says that playlists sync across all devices.
Indeed. When it works (and for me, that's roughly 98%, accounting for those weird cases when the songs won't play), it's truly liberating. You create a playlist on your phone, add some songs to it while you're at your computer, then later listen to it on your iPad, all without ever manually syncing the devices.

Ok, yeah, I'm totally signing up for this. Will be nice to reclaim the ~9gig of space my music is currently eating on my phone, and all the extra bells and whistles are too enticing to pass up.
I haven't really dipped into itunes radio at all, is it worth a shit?
