Not a big week, but it's pretty good regardless. The PS4 sees Oddworld: New 'n Tasty, the PS3 sees a card game that could possibly assuage the lack of Magic 2015 and the Vita finally sees the Ratchet and Clank Collection, which I am, looking forward to impressions of,
You know, having a PSP without account-management is quite a disadvantage. I don't even remember how I managed to switch last time.
Edit: Hey, waitaminute. This seems to be the correct account after all, so why am I even getting "You must sign in as the user who bought this content"?
Edit: Now it works! I changed nothing! I did the same thing again. Definition of madness!
I... But, it was supposed to... I TOOK THE DAY OFF FOR THIS! Or, worked from home so I'd be next to my Wi-Fi and wouldn't have to wait until 5:30pm. And did all my day's work early, so I could slack off once I got R&C. Boo. So much boo. At least I have an early meeting on 7/29 that will justify working from home again.
While this is entirely dope, and I'd like to jump on Rogue Legacy as well as The Swapper, there's no Vita version listed for either. Well, for ANY of the titles, but I know those in particular are supposed to be getting Vita versions as well. Can anyone confirm that a pre-order of the PS3 version would net me the Vita versions? All I have is the portable. Also, general complaint that the Vita is the stepson of the PS trifecta, overlooked and pushed to the curb at an institutional level.
Edit: Oh, hey, in the text of the long descriptions for these, they mention it's cross-cross-buy, single purchase nets you versions for PS3, PS4 and Vita. Still upset they have listings only for PS3/4 though.

Man, Injustice with all the costumes and DLC characters for $8.40 is super tempting, but I couldn't decide if I really wanted it or not. I was paralyzed with indecision, then I panicked and bought Child of Light...
Preordered Rogue Legacy, none of those other games look interesting to me. Except maybe Counterspy, what's Counterspy?

The final loose ends from the massive hack of Sony's PlayStation Network that first came to light in April 2011 are being tied up, with Sony agreeing to a settlement that could hold it liable for up to $15 million in damages, plus nearly $2.75 million in attorney fees.
The lengthy settlement agreement (PDF) offers a number of benefits to users affected by the breach: a free downloadable PS3 or PSP game (from a selection of 14 titles), three PS3 themes (from a selection of six), or a three-month subscription to PlayStation Plus. Users who took advantage of Sony's "Welcome Back" promotion back in 2011 can choose one of those benefits, while those who didn't get a free game back then can choose from two of the three benefits.
Looks like more free goodies are on the way. I had no idea this was still going on.

Erm. Sort of... according to the actual settlement document, you only get the 3-month subscription to PlayStation Plus if you did not have PlayStation Plus at the time of submitting the claim (if you have PS Plus right now, you don't get 3 more months). Officially, anyway. The way PSN actually DOES the vouchers, though, it might be different... there's no way to know for sure.
They have a different benefit for a 1 month of PS Plus in the settlement document for the "catch-all" misc. award for folks who miss out on certain benefits (because the settlement is out of money) or edge case situations.
And here is some of the games list, along with the stipulation for the rest of the games. From the language, it looks like the remaining games will be 6 months or more from the time of the claim form being posted (so older games):
EDIT: Misread it... it's early in the morning for me. :-P Thanks, @DaringDirk!

Lots of good stuff in the next couple of weeks. Will be picking up Oddworld, all 4 indies due to cross-buy and Ratchet and Clank. Still not sure about Last of Us. I just beat the DLC recently and $50 is too much when I have the ps3 digital version. (If I could sell it back to gamestop I might.)
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
Just watched a video of Oddworld and it looks really slick
But not $30 slick, I'll wait for a sale
Picked up Lego Marvel PS4 on the sale even though I've already Platinumed it just because it's an amazing game, and put in pre-orders for Rogue Legacy, The Swapper and Counterspy

I played through Second Son three times. 100% completion each time. I was only going to do two, but I hated the evil karma ending so much I had to immediately start a new good playthrough.
Looked into Counterspy on PS4. Looks pretty cool! Like TF2's artstyle mixed with a neat sounding cold war setting. So now I have Rogue Legacy and Counterspy preordered
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Well, Rogue Legacy clearly calls back to rogue-like games, and procedural levels are part of the rogue-like genre. The reason for this is that rogue-likes are supposed to send surprising challenges at you that you may not necessarily be able to defeat during that playthrough (i.e. lots of bullshit deaths), and that's considered part of the normal challenge of a rogue-like. In most games, the level design is so static that it comes down to simple rote-memorization (an enemy pops out here, a power-up appears there, etc.). I like procedurally-generated content (not necessarily levels) because they produce challenges that I cannot anticipate from just playing through the game. Left 4 Dead is a great example of procedural generation used for dramatic effect... static levels, but random monster and power-up spawns in specific portions of the levels to enhance the suspense.
Conversely, the engine of most rogue-likes also provide you ways to manipulate the game such that you can pass those challenges in unconventional ways. Like hitting an enemy with a polymorph potion, which changes them into a dragon, which kills the Monster Room you are in, while you run away screaming throwing down a teleport wand to randomly dump you somewhere else. That is the main reason I like playing Rogue-likes... finding novel solutions to problems that I can't possibly anticipate. It's something that's absent from the vast majority of games.

Have SCEA ever had any preorders for Vita games in the past? I know SCEE has, since I've done it before, but I'm not sure about SCEA.
Also, I forgot to mention but SCEE have said that the August PS+ lineup will be announced next week.
Just head to the DS2 page and it's there.
Preordered Rogue Legacy, none of those other games look interesting to me. Except maybe Counterspy, what's Counterspy?
I think they're all pretty fun in different ways. Secnd Son definitely seems like it has a lot less to do tho.
Another fairly quiet week
Oddworld on PS4, the next episode of The Walking Dead and Dark Souls 2 dlc are the stand-outs this week.
Looks like more free goodies are on the way. I had no idea this was still going on.
Yeah, if it didn't affect you, you get nothing.
Which is fair enough. And I'm not getting any of the things.

Deliberate. They wanted to keep the game length down to encourage more people to play through the game twice, once as Evil/Good.
Looked into Counterspy on PS4. Looks pretty cool! Like TF2's artstyle mixed with a neat sounding cold war setting. So now I have Rogue Legacy and Counterspy preordered
Certainly failed for me then. I like having a wealth of extra stuff to find, track down, collect and do.
Couldn't they just have done a new game+?
This question applies to so, so many games.
