[PA Comic] Wednesday, February 19, 2014 - Numeracy
Killzone 3 had mechs you could get in. I hated those matches, because it is not fun to be a soldier and get massacred by a dude in a giant robot suit.
I don't see Titanfall being any different. Dudes vs Robots doesn't sound fun. It needs to be dudes only, or robots only.

Not really.
The way Titans are made is that they are extremely fragile but very powerful. Glass Cannons if you would.
So, if you try to play them like your traditional "tank" they aren't going to last long.
Also, every class comes with a extra weapon slot specifically for taking out Titans, add that in with the Pilots maneuverability and the Pilot vs. Titan is more plausible than you would think.

There's a sidearm that fires mini-missiles as well as regular missile launchers. Also, on foot duders can jump onto enemy Titans, rip open the vital bits and blast them to hell.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
I enjoy Tycho's news posts, on a fairly regular basis even more than the comic. This is one of those times, and this was a good comic. A lot of thought put into them, they can be very engaging.
If I can touch on something gabe/mike said in his post that this is the time to buy an Xbox One if you were on the fence....:
Titanfall is also available on PC. Not only that, but at lowest settings (which are some damn low requirements; Titanfall is built on source engine, the same engine that runs team fortress, counter strike, halflife, etc.) the game still looks REALLY good. Like, REALLY REALLY good. You don't need a powerhouse to play titanfall, and that extends to the Xbox One.
I'm not fanboying out to say that ps4 is better than Xbox One. I'm PC fanboying out to say that you shouldn't get it on console, because, come on. The keyboard and mouse be'ith mightier than the stick'n'buttuns.
I actually don't like being a Titan and prefer to just be the pilot. It is too easy for people to ruin you. As a pilot, I can hide in buildings and poke out to fire my anti-titan gun when they aren't looking. I can hop on their backs and shoot into their brains.
Not to even mention the environmental damage these things are doing. I think any country being invaded by another country with titans would just call it good from the standpoint of not having their cities leveled by twelve-year-olds with no concept of aiming.
Believe it or not Titanfall was something I had pretty much completely ignored until the past week and now it is on my radar based almost entirely upon these newsposts.

EA, I know, but it feels odd to have a Source engine game not on Steam.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

I paid no attention to it and caught a gameplay video last week.

Gonna get a new video card just for it.
Just FYI, it looks good on low and runs fine on even older systems.

Plus, the whole game is sort of MOBA-esque in that you're farming up points to get to call in the Titan support.
... So that you can lose it twenty seconds later.
Honestly, I mostly keep my Titan on AI follow because I love rodeoing enemy titans too much.

I know. But now's prolly the best excuse I've had.

I dunno. It runs and looks like dogshit on my rig, probably because it still is using a DX10 class gpu. Some other games run and look better too. Played a bit on my brother's juiced up rig though, and that was the proper experience.

Not having played Titanfall, I am basically picturing the Slug Gunner.

(just a hobby, no advert revenue or anything fancy)

But what is your position on Meccs vs. Kabuto? (vs. sea witches?)

Oh wait, it's not on Steam?
Eh, I'll probably pass then.

Less than a Titan more than a tank! Sir!
I know. But now's prolly the best excuse I've had.
