Hey Console Tourney Fans!

NOTE: The form is now closed. Thank you all for your tourney suggestions!

We’ve got a bit of a new plan for Sunday! The short version: Community selected tourneys.

Each PAX, we make our best effort to host the tourneys that we think represent the variety of games that are enjoyed by our attendees. But, we know we miss some of your favorites.

This East, we’re opening the selection of three game slots up to you.

This is how it’s going to work:

• Respond to this post with your top 4 game suggestions at the link below and in the thread.
• The top three voted games will become tournaments on Sunday.
• Caveats:
  • We must be able to obtain copies of the game and system.
  • Online-only games will not be considered.
• Systems available:
  • SNES
  • N64/PSX
  • GameCube/Xbox/PS2
  • Wii/Xbox360/PS3
  • WiiU/XbOne/PS4
• Please include the version, if there is one.
• If it’s not possible to run one of the top three, we will take the next highest voted game.
• Games that are already scheduled will be removed from the results.
• We will size the tournaments to finish in under 90 minutes.
• Submissions must be made by 2/23/2014

So we should give a post with a top 4 set of suggestions, AND vote on our top 3? At the same time? Just want to make sure I'm clear. It reads like there would be two rounds, first a "post your top 4" and then after a bunch of people do that, "vote on your top 3". If not though, that's cool, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Got it, it looked like there were only 3 spots in that form the first time I looked at it, but I might have just been going crazy.

I would still encourage people to post their votes here to get a landscape of potentials.

How do we make sure this is fair and we don't have some idiot "stuffing the box"

While it might sound naive, I'm going with the honor system.

Once your response has been submitted, you should be able to see the results. (I'm not sure how this feature is going to work though).

If it turns out that a handful of games appear to have been extremely artificially elevated, we may remove them from the running. If it's not possible to tell, we may have to scrap this idea, but I'm hoping it won't come to that.

I'd love for an NBA Jam (Genesis, SNES, regular, tournament edition, whatever you guys can easily get, I don't care) one.

I went for stuff I doubt will get many votes.

NHL14, NHL95 (or any SNES EA NHL game), WWE All-Stars, and Killer Instinct (new one).

I'd really love for any of the old NHL games to come out. I played in a tourney at probably my first PAX and loved it. I lost horribly and really want to avenge my defeat (being that I am captain hockey). WWE All-Stars I think is an arcadey enough game that most can jump in and get a feel for it. And KI is KI. I feel like there will already be a tourney for that anyway.

I don't think that racing games get too much love at tourneys like these so I would love to see a round of Dirt 3 using the gymkhana mode or the HD version of Daytona USA using the survival mode that came out on the PS3 and Xbox 360. The modes in both games are both timed and ends with a score so it would be easy to declare a winner. I'd also like to see something different like DJ Hero as a round and maybe even through in some O.G. Tony Hawk Pro Skater for good measure.

but there are a nice bit of suggestions. As much as I'd like to see a Titanfall Tournament, its reliance on the cloud will be what prevents it, in my opinion at least.

SOCOM 2 on Playstation 2

In memory of the servers and forums being shut down by Sony. Socom was the flagship title that launched Playstation into the online space. It still can be played via lab or online via clink servers.

Should have a collection of mini games like Peggle wrapped into a single tournament that way you don't necessarily need to be great at a single game and still do okay

Mario Kart: Double Dash. Please god, make this happen. The team-based gameplay made for, what is bar-none, not just the best tournament experience I've had at PAX, but the best experiences I've had at PAX period.

"Games you DON'T want in the tournament" might have been a shorter list. Hm? Hm?

I'd like to see Super SF4 AE '12 on there of course (I was pleasantly surprised to see it mentioned several times). I'd also like to see SC2 HOTS "Starbow" mod. I also think it'd really, really be special if we had some Tatsunoko vs Capcom...

Also I "second" Mario Kart: Double Dash. That would be super sick. Also Tetrisphere... Yes, I went there. I love that game and it's ultra competitive.. nintendo..ultra..

False. I was never into Peggle (knew what it was though) and came in second in a Peggle tourney at 2011 Prime. Peggle deserves its own tourney for sure.

All of the choices above would be really fun and competitive to play. Will there be any prizes for winners of these tournaments?

Pretty nice concept. I voted using the link above. Google docs should allow for an easy tally of submissions or create a simple formula to do so.

I threw in a few old school games with some new as well.

Can not wait for Pax 2014!!!

Hi guys,

I was really excited to see all the tourneys planned for PAX East 2014. I had some questions about the rules of the tournaments.

In general, will they be single or double elimination?

For multiplatform games (UMvC3, Street Fighter 4, Call of Duty, Soul Calibur 5, etc), will the games be played on Xbox 360 or PS3? I'm sure fighting game fans will want to bring their stick(s). Also, the 360 controller is horrible for fighting games.

To quickly answer your question, all of the games you listed will be played on 360s. The rest will be available in the rules post.
