Didn't they start as DD in XI then became tanks through clever use of game mechanics and then they were later itemized for? (Disclaimer: I never played XI)

Apparently I really miss this game, based on how exciting these announcements are to me even though I haven't played in months. I just can't stop picturing my old character being a ninja... They're gonna get some money out of me I think.
Do they mean flavor or mechanic? They could give us something with 'dodge' tank flavor that's not a true evasion tank. "Slips away from blows and takes less damage" works the same as "armor absorbs some of the damage" as an actual mechanic.
Gun class confirmed for healing people by shooting them. Because when you shoot someone's face off, they're not concerned with the arrow in their chest anymore.

FFT had Chemists. Just flinging pots across the battlefield like a boss, then shooting mans with their status effect guns. That's all I want.
"Man, this is great and easy, great and easy, great and OH FUCK HEAL HEAL HEAL EVERYONES DEAD"
Just pick up the healy balls, SKITTLES FOR EVERYONE! (Now I miss my Mystic)
They really could have an "evasion tank" where all the incoming damage is like "glancing blows," reduce the damage by an amount and numerically work identically to block.
Weren't Riftstalkers really strong tanks in Rift? I never got mine to max level, but I remember low level tanking being fun as hell. (Outside the first few seconds of a pull before you had your Parry/Dodge/etc buffs up)

I really hope the job end state is 'every class has one job for each role'. I don't care if it's weird to tank with a bow. MAGIC answers all questions.

Hah, did Yoshi-P just ask the other dude if he speaks American? Kinda sounded like it to me. :P
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.

Except ninja tanks. Fuck that forever.

IIRC a long while ago they did mention that they'd ultimately like every class to have at least two jobs. Like Arcanist.

Xenoblade did it.
So did ToR. Commandos and Mercenaries gun shot heal! Operative heals were the best heals, though, shooting darts at people.
Nice to see Rogue / Ninja. I know my brother is going to be happy about that.

Well, considering that jobs are equivalent to specs from other games, I'd always assumed they'd have at least two per class--it's pretty weird that they launched with one 'spec' for most classes to begin with.

Eh it's just a timing thing I would think, take time to make them and when they were looking to launch the game that was time better spent on the core game instead.
I would imagine a fair amount of classes will get a new job in the expansion personally.
