In our run last night where Corrigan died, we had 2 wizards, a monk, and a WD.
Monk clone was using Mantra of Conviction, the other 3 had pretty much the whole battle area perma-slowed with blizzards and frozen orbs and pirahna pools (clones can use the new skills).
never used Skype, but does it support group chat with many people and is it easy to get setup
thinking this was a very stupid and horrible idea... which is par for the course for me
Skype is kind of awful. But it does support group chat, and easy to set up / use.
I hate doing Diablo on WD, since the damn clone just runs away. Seriously, it runs away as far as it can, if you do get close enough to use vamp bats or whatever it casts Horrify. And piranha pools..

Man I hate it when I'm grouped with all Wizards. Yeah I don't have to do anything except GETS XP and GRABS LOOTZ but that's because I can't see a damn thing that's happening.
Yeah, more than one wizard and witch doctor and the sparkles make me want to seizure.
I think Metzen needs an editor or someone who is a keeper of the lore, like that little red shirt nerd, who can keep it all straight. Also, we don't need to re-tell Tristram's story again for the 4th time. Cain is dead. It's time to move on. I didn't mind the nephalem angle, it certainly explains why some people can rise up and be total badasses like the various heroes, and maybe why those people also have a tendancy to fall into evil once they get there.
I assume by the end of RoS that all the evils will be loosed by whatever shenanigans Malathael is up to and we can start all over again.
Haha, yeah at playing with wizards. It's a whole new game trying to spot frozen explosions with slow times and orbs flying all around. I'd be scared to death in hardcore to group with wizards. Oh and I forgot to mention the mirror images who then cast the same things which basically makes it impossible to see anything.
So what's the betting pool on battle.net being a flaming wreck tonight? Curious how long it'll be until stability issues go away post RoS.
On original launch it was mostly the login server that crapped itself, the game itself was pretty functional.
This time you can login in advance, and then jump to the char select screen and launch the expansion when it hits.
I'll probably end up playing a little at midnight against my better interests. My two year old doesn't care what time I go to bed, she's up at around 7 no matter what.

Metzen is in charge of the overall story of the universe in a George Lucas sort of way, but yeah there are other writers for individual quests/dialogue/companions

Yeah, they brought in Leonard Boyarsky (from Troika, Black Isle previously) to handle the writing / world building with some others. The problem is, they were getting away from what Diablo is (ARPG w/ LOOOOOOOT) and you were making moral choices....which sure, was probably cool, but not what fans of the game give a shit about, so they simplified apparently.
So going to ask, is there any criteria a character should meet before tackling Torment?
Not talking about being 60 but gear wise etc.
Probably 40 paragon levels is a good start, for 10 in each category. Things hit harder and take longer to kill, so you want high quality gems and paragon levels to survive and put out dps. I was doing torment 1 yesterday when leveling my wizard from 7-45~. Probably died about 4 times total.

Nah, I went into Torment at fresh level 60 and I was fine. It was slow but not undoable.
now what I need to figure out is should I play act 5 single player, watching all the cutscenes and taking my time... or blaze through in a multiplayer game skipping everything in what I feel is a more authentic diablo experience.
I mean I know the story is going to be shit right, so its not even like I am really missing anything there.
I'm going to turn cutscenes and voice audio back on for one run 60-70. Just so I can see if it's any better than 1-60 was. I hear the writing team was surprised by the negative reaction originally, maybe they changed something.
Unless they fired Metzen, nothing will be changed. I can't even begin to imagine the kind of bubble world they live in if they didn't realize the writing in Diablo 3 sucked complete ass at release, the money apparently made them think Diablo 2 was too dark and interesting for modern audiences... Just going back and watching those cinematics, everything is better. The plot is mysterious, the voice acting actually pretty good, and the atmosphere dark and full of portent. Diablo 3 was just a fucking Michael Bay movie. Diablo 2 had the brilliant framing device of Marius and Baal, and the final reveal of Baal actually makes you kind of hate him for being such an asshole.
In an ill advised fit of optimism, I am expecting the servers to be mostly fine tonight/tomorrow. The closest analogue I can think of is the release of WoW expansions, and those are actually pretty seamless. Now, I'm sure we'll get another 19 hour extended maintenance next week, but I bet well be fine for launch.

Yeah, I did and it shipped. They tend to stagger release day ships based on how far from a distribution center you are, which dictates what level of shipping they need to use. In some cases when you're really close, they will just use a local courier.

All I can think of is either you searched for "PAF." or you're not in the American Region? If the former, there's no period in game, it was just a separator in the thread title.

WD? Reall? I think they're pretty much the most subtle power display out of all the classes. I know a lot of pets tend to get slow down tho.
Plus, I don't think I've been in a group with another WD yet. We seem to be the rarest.
I think there's a lot of resentment that it isnt a necromancer. It isn't, but its a ton of fun in it's own way. They just need to fix things so stats work on the character(see crit/crit damge/IAS with dots).

I hadn't seen any requests for a D3 Vent channel and as such never made one. There are some general use game lobbies at the top of the Vent for random pickup games and generally dedicated channels only get made when there's a demand for it. If this thread wants a D3 channel then all it has to do is ask! We have the password in place in order to minimize random spambot attacks and just kinda assumed most PA regulars would know what it is or would just PM someone about it. Sorry if that caused any sort of issues!

Dread pirate Roberts is a title that passes from the dread pirate to an apprentice. Since crusaders also transfer their name to their apprentice, it is thematically spot on.

No fancyness, just arcane orb/orbit/moonlight ward orbs while spamming spectral knives, with the occasional Archon to melt elites.
