Hey guys, this is my first post on these forums. I joined years ago, but I forgot my username and password, so I created this new account.
Anyway, I'm having an extremely irritating experience with my computer. I'm using XP Media Center Edition. Initially I only had one account on this machine. I'm away at school now, but I'll be bringing it back home soon; I figured I'd create accounts for the rest of my family. Using my initial account (Administrator), I created five other accounts. The first one I tried to make told me that I had to first create an administrator account before I could create others. I thought this was strange because I WAS an administrator already, but I couldn't get around it so I created another admin account.
I reboot the machine and my original account is gone. The ones that I had created are there, but not my initial account. I've tried everything I can think of:
-System Restore did not fix the problem
-I have created another account and attempted to copy the files from Documents and Settings into the new account, but my access is denied (I think maybe that's because I had a password on that account)
-I have tried working with the command prompt, but no matter what I enter it tells me "'x' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
I'm at my wit's end. I have a paper due tomorrow and I can't access any of the information that I need because all my notes are on that account. This is extremely frustrating and troublesome. Please, if anyone can offer any kind of help, I would be very appreciative.

Get Knoppix: http://www.knoppix.org/ (German site, sorry)
And get that data off... Google "knoppix faq" for more info on how to use it.
:?:
(Thanks)
EDIT: I have class now, so I won't be able to respond for a bit.
have access to another XP machine? pull the HDD, install it in the other box as a slave, grab the files and go. Any permissions issues - just take ownership and replace them.
installing another copy of xp into a different directory would work as well.
So would a boot disk with NTFSDOS.
Click security->advanced->owner
Select "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and change the owner in the list to whatever your account is (it should be gibberish right now).
Click ok and you should be off to the races.
