Yay! Hopefully they only have 2 or less again...

They were pretty good about just giving you the two pins you needed rather then having to use the machine at Prime. I told them I had the entire set already and the guy working the machines just gave me what I needed. I hope that is the case again because you can easily invest a lot of cash and you might not get every pin you need. Obviously trading makes this easier though.

I'm interested in going all in on a "hardcore" group, but I just can't imagine burning *all* my PAX time to get four complete sets.

Given that, I have an idea for a twist on the traditional pin pal group. Instead of designating one person per show, it would be a group for people that attend at least *two* PAX per year, with the exception of Aus.

My new routine is going to be Prime, since I'm local, and then either South and/or East (this year I'll be at East). Likewise, if there was someone local for South that also attends East/Prime, and someone local to East that also plans to attend South/Prime, we could make things a lot simpler. For the two large shows (and South), we would individually just need to get two full sets (plus we'd have a pin pal on site to coordinate with). Since Aus tends to be a smaller show, and has costly travel, we would make an exception and have one person just responsible for Aus.

Would anyone be interested in an arrangement like that?

Don't think that you need to spend all your time on getting 4 sets. I go to plenty of panels and see other stuff. Despite how much I post on here, Pins are only part of my PAX

  • fishfishmonkeyhatfishfishmonkeyhat Freelance Pin Man Newcastle, AustraliaRegistered User regular
Yeah I don't even remember asking to be in a "Hardcore" group when I signed up. All I wanted was someone to buy me the core sets at each paxen.

We all just seemed to agree that every pin after that is a bonus, and we've actually done pretty well considering.

Hi guys... I'm a buttoneer and pinthusiest (Usually buy some extra core sets and collect what I can).

Attending Prime since 2011 when I demo'ed for Mayfair games. I've been trading since my roommate picked me up some 2013 aus pins.

I've got a complete Kemper collection and every Gabe and Tycho pin but the core set but it shouldn't be too hard to finish that. [ http://imgur.com/ec8aNzX ]

I finally got around to trying out the pinny pals podcast again after not being able to get through the first episode too long ago.

Also also, I tried to volunteer for the pinny-pals site dev, but I'm not very good with php and didn't have much organized contact so I fell off the project :( I'd still be willing to help out with js/css issues if you need help with a feature.

I'm not sure Its been mentioned on here anywhere, but I discovered as South that Guidebook has a Pinny Arcade guide you can download. I'm still liking Pinnywise for a portable list, but its certainly good to know. You can set a "to do list" of which pins you want, and it also has links to the official Pinny sites as well as Pinny Pals and Pin Mash.

I've waited for this day. I've seen it coming from along the long horizon. Ever since I decided to truly vest myself in this hobby, ever since I was first put in my hardcore group, I knew that - someday - for my brothers and sisters I would bear the calling.

Snow gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until convention's close. I shall take no girlfriend, spend no coin, skip any work day. I shall wear no Burger King crowns or be distracted by any other cons. I shall live and die at my post. I am the lanyard in the crowd, the watcher on the walkways. I am the shields and polygons and limited editions that tempt the realms of traders.

I pledge my life and honor to the Pin Cushions, to @Vaanrose, to @Diffusion, and to @Nefily, for this East, and all the Easts to come!

Naw, I was thinking I would take this one off, you know, just relax and maybe OF COURSE I'M GONNA BE AT EAST. I was at PAX East 14, Prime 14, Aus 14, South 15, so you know, why break the streak now? Might as well just drive myself insane!

Honestly, though, I don't know how the staff does it.

It's not so much the price as the usual unavailability of older patches.

I'm sure this is a solved problem, but which pin backs do you guys who wear 100s of pins use? I've always just loaded up a couple lanyards with clasp locks with no issue, but I'm planning on wearing my entire collection on a sash to East for the first time. I'm planning on using the allen wrench style locks for ones on display and clasp style locks for trades. I'll have plenty of extras of both styles at East as well if anyone needs one during the show. I'll be walking around as Pin-cess Peach.

@DefaultGen locking backs, generally purchased on Ebay if you don't happen to have a local craft store that has them (link for posterity).

Sure, I have plenty of those clasp backs. I also picked up a bunch of this style: http://www.amazon.com/Pin-Keepers-Allen-Wrench-Pcs/dp/B004URO99C

I was just wondering if people prefer one over the other for pins they're not planning on trading.

I have lost pins when using the locking backs. They are better than the rubber backs, but they can still be pulled off.

I think your idea of allen wrench for the non-trades, locking for the trades is the way to go. That is what I do.

The allen wrench ones also have horror stories of ripping posts off of pins. Personally, if you're worried about losing pins and want the safest way, then I would suggest the @dmosinee School of Sashery.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the community, but started collecting pins at Prime 2013. I'd love to join one of the enthusiast pin groups as a Prime / maybe South person. I went to the first Pax South this year and it was really fun, so I'm hoping to attend again. I especially enjoyed the pin trading events and being able to trade with a bunch of people all at once. The random table pin games were a blast, too.

Here's my collection so far: https://www.pinnypals.com/pals/SerHippo

There are only a few pins I'm missing at the moment, and I would LOVE to get my hands on a Leeroy pin, but I'm also open to most trade offers if I have an extra of something you need!

Anyway, nice to meet you all!
