I was just thinking the other day that it'd be nice to have an updated Gauntlet. I never played the last incarnation of it (Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows) and by all reports it wasn't very good. The fiancee and I had a great time with the Gauntlet: Dark Legacy game many years ago, though.
And of course, I loved playing the old arcade game. The NES version was an interesting take on the game too.
Yanno, it's funny. I'm a marine engineer and even though I'm not nearly as hands on knowledgeable as some of the old timers here, being able to Google a problem has turned me into a god damn wizard in their eyes. Pretty much every repair job these days seems to have turned just as much into "what can you find out" as it is "what do you know off the top of your head." I can't wait for Coast Guard tests to start asking questions about how to operate a computer. I would not be surprised if this is the case even in actual tech support jobs.
I lost a tech job because I didn't know what the video card in a computer specs were. I was told my troubleshooting skill was great at thinking through a problem I didn't know the answer. I should have pulled out my phone and googled the specs in front of them. I don't memorize the cards, but I can look them up fast and tell you if it is worth it.
off to play saints row III
I've not gotten an on campus IT center job because instead of trying to figure out the hypothetical problem, the correct answer was "tell people the internet is down" or something equally silly.
Welcome back to Stream Thread Battle Royale 2014.
I'm Ed Gruberman. And I'm Doctor Detroit. We'd like to dedicate today's coverage to all of those who lost their lives over the last week. Our friend HitBit was the victim of a violent home invasion. And as you know, our military suffered unheard of losses defending the city from Taramoor's insurrection. Both sides were citizens of the Empire, all the lives lost are tragic. It's a shame that this is what our Empire has come to.
Ed Gruberman shot Doctor Detroit a nervous look. The Emperor was in attendance today, but did not seem to catch the remark. Ed couldn't take much more. He was a nervous wreck, he'd stayed by Doctor Detroit since the news about HiTBiT broke. Combined with the recent battle, Doc had began to speak outwardly with bitterness towards the Emperor. He wasn't alone, but Ed had to try and protect him. He was the only friend he had left. He thought to himself it was true that everything that was happening to him was essentially the Emperor's fault. But fear kept him silent and he did his best to keep Doc's comments in check for the rest of the match.
The gladiators entered the arena. The dirt was still soft and muddy from prior rains. Even more rain was expected later that evening. From the left Maguano arrived in light leather armor. Her full helm was decorated with serpent hair, and a frightening visage. She was armed with a pair of slightly curved swords, one just slightly shorter than the other. ReverseCreations was large and bulky. He was bare-chested, but his arms were heavily wrapped in leather studded with thick spikes along the forearms. He carried a large stained battle axe in one hand, though the grip was built for two. As they met in the center of the arena floor, he spat on the ground as his opponent bowed. The signal to begin was sounded.

Speaking of updated games. Why don't we have an updated Escape Velocity.
Maguano swept both her swords out, one high and the other low. ReverseCreations deflected the lower one with a spin of his axe, and turned to let the second swing glance off the armored bands on his free arm. With a shout he swung the axe up hard at Maguano in response. She ducked back to avoid the upward swing. ReverseCreations immediately switched to a two handed grip and swung again with the heavy battleaxe. Maguane tried the block the the attack with both swords, but the force of the attack broke through. The axe blow was at least slowed. As Maguano's guard broke the axe cut into her side through the leather armor.

ReverseCreations was trying to push the axe deeper as Maguano pushed back. She was surprisingly strong he thought. He wasn't getting it to budge and was just barely keeping even. He thought she was slipping as he felt the resistance loosen a bit. But it was a momentary shift of attention, as she used her other arm to stab him in the gut. She twisted the blade around as he growled through gritted teeth. He gave up on pushing the axe any further pulled away, freeing himself from the blade. It had cut deep, and was bleeding heavily. The two fighters nursed their wounds as they watched each other cautiously.

Man I loved those Escape Velocity games. I didn't know there was a spiritual successor in the works!
Maguano was the first to press the attack. She swung both swords at different heights again trying to get through his guard. He dodged away from some of the attacks and blocked others with the axe. His belly burned and the bleeding was worrisome. He tightened his grip on the the axe, and as Maguano stabbed forward with the longer sword he stepped aside to avoid the blade and swung the axe down upon her extended arm. The blow did not manage to the sever the limb entirely, but it was certainly ruined. As Maguano wavered in shock the axe cleaved through her opposite shoulder, this time removing the arm entirely. Although more than enough damage had been done already, ReverseCreations made sure with another brutal swipe to the midsection as she fell. The crowd cheered for the victor and the Emperor seemed pleasantly amused.

Dammit all, Spore stuff is all on sale for the best price I've seen on Steam yet. I could finally get it all for just 15 bucks? Damn. I will have to seriously ponder that one. I've wanted that one forever.

So, since board games seem to be a /thing/ for weekly deals this week, any info folks want to pass along concerning their translation to digital form?

Starting with "I know nothing about this except it looks like a post-apocalyptic adventure and is on sale", can anyone give me any input on "A New Beginning: Final Cut"? It looks like it might be my sort of thing, but I have no idea if it's any good or not...
Looks like I may have found an apartment. Got an appointment tomorrow in San Diego again to go look at three of them. Also got word back from my job that I'll be starting on the 15th of April along with what my salary will be.
Meanwhile I'm fiddling with this new smartphone, which is pretty neat considering I've never had one before.

Steam is down yet again? Whats up lately?
Chief Wiggum: "Ladies, please. All our founding fathers, astronauts, and World Series heroes have been either drunk or on cocaine."
That's a whole lot of Sanctum 2 hours. And a whole lot of achievements. I'm going to have to give that game a try if it's good enough to warrant that kind of a commitment and I already own it
A New Beginning came up earlier. I can't say much about its overall story quality as I didn't make it past the first few scenes. But some god awful voice acting. Not even really just performances, but edited together in weird ways.
I found it kind of funny. I'll probably still end up going back to play through it sometime.

Starsector which is 100% independent at the moment
and
SPAZ 2 Which is probably the furthest from an EV like. SPAZ 1 is one steam and is kinda like an EV like.
