It's a shame about Wing Commander. Roberts got screwed on that deal. It was his first time directing an actual movie and he wasn't prepared to deal with Hollywood types. For instance, he had no choice on how the Kilrathi looked and was forced to use them. I suspect if he had waited some years after working in the industry and getting experience he would have been able to make a better movie.
For what it's worth he's at least produced some decent movies since then.
Wing Commander wasn't as bad as I remembered, but not a good movie in my opinion. I'd forgotten it had Poirot in it and Matthew Lillard is always fun to watch (while imagining he's still playing the same character he played in SLC Punk).

When purchasing my ships I glossed over the fact that none of them have jump drives. You can upgrade ships with them, right? Either way I might grab a Constellation at some point.
Got me all nostalgic and started looking on imdb. Apparently the rights to the movie goes back to Roberts in a cople years. Then he can do whatever he pleases with it. Speculation around about possibly redoing the awful kilrathi designs and add back all the stuff that was cut. Maybe even a sequal?
the whole pilgrim thing....oh god...<throws up a little in his mouth>
It is was scene of a dozer pushing a crashed fighter off the starships deck so other fighters could land, that forever sticks in my mind. The needing a runway thing always hurt my head. How they could have that sweet scene with the bomber popping up to torpedo and still done that...

I could have lived without reading that.
Poster is clearly a troll though, and I don't think giving him airtime over here is doing our community, or the RSI community, any favors.
But I'll also say that piracy in games like SC and Eve, where you actually lose something when people come to shoot you up, is functionally worse than other games/FPSes like DayZ or Rust or whatever.
The fact that they allow such discussions on their forums doesn't speak well for RSI's moderators.
THey don't. It was locked with a cited rules violation.
Ah ok, I see the lock on the first page, I checked the last assuming it would be the last post (also, not really wanting to read that whole thread). That makes me feel better about how that was handled.
Sounds more like he wanted player pirates to be locked in as old school real-world pirates instead of Disney style pirates.

The modern romanticization of pirates is something I find a little creepy. And it's not the swashbuckling excitement of period films, but how it's become an appropriate fantasy to sell to little kids.
It'd be like having children's shows about the Mafia that sell being made as something to strive towards.
Isn't there already an animated show about a mob family having trouble fitting into witness protection? Assuming not being sarcastic with the truckloads of prime time shows following dastardly people.

It's just not "cool" to be good anymore it seems.
The entire Marvel MCU would like to disagree with you.

It was locked, but it wasn't pulled down nor is there any indication of any action against the poster aside from the lock. Pretty shoddy action considering the other big controversy they have going now, which was pulling down a thread and banning the op of a thread about forming a group for women in the community. She was then verbally assaulted throughout the thread and was then banned for reporting all such posts (rules violation for "abuse" of the report system...wtf).
So, it's okay to discuss rape and how it should be a part of the game (and other sexist topics), until a mod comes along and simply locks it up, but not okay to report those threatening you with such things. No double standard there... I'm watching very closely for CIG's response to this and they better take it pretty seriously. I had hopes for a much higher standard from them.
Edit: Well, I'm happier with Ben's response but still not pleased that they let trash like the other thread remain; it doesn't reflect what Ben is saying in his response.

That bothered me too. Why couldn't they have pushed it INTO the landing bay rather than off the side, so they could have tried to save her? Seems like something that worked in the script, but not once you were actually watching it.
The thing about that bulldozer scene is that I can see how someone would explain it. The ship's got artificial gravity, so right as it's pushed off the edge it would still be in the ship's gravity well so it starts moving that direction, then as it leaves the gravitational field it just continues that way.
But then again, you actually watch it and it's so stupid. There's a bulldozer, in space, and it pushes the fighter wreckage off the flight deck, and then it falls. In space.
Has anyone seen Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie? It's like the bit with the Hubble.

Because fire on a ship sucks?
I mean, the whole thing was an homage to WWII carrier ops, where pushing wrecked planes off the flight deck to clear space for the next guy makes sense, but other than that, danger of fire / explosion would be my go-to reason.

No expert but... i mean, even with a fuel source would fire be an actual worry? wouldn't it you know, quickly be extinguished? being no air for it to feed off?

If Erin Roberts is in charge of the Squadron 42 production....
I just had visions of Clive Owen in my head.
If only....
I literally do not see how "I call brony" applies to this
But then I guess I don't know why one would bring that up at all outside of a literal conversation about bronies?
Like... wut da fuq is "I call brony" even supposed to mean?

Also none of the bay crew is wearing suits, so they can't do shit to help. One of them tries to run out anyway. Brilliant!
It might have been risk of explosion- but gently pushing it off with a bulldozer is no help there. But no fire in the part they shoved off.
*sigh*
