I clicked on this thread thinking maybe we'd have news about custom game lobbies, but it looks like instead PGI has just reinstated LRMageddon. Okay then.
We should set up a campaign to be fought out when custom games are around. PGI will never implement BV, but we've got all the pieces to do that if enough people are interested.

I've been thinking about this since almost after PGI announced the Launch module date (along with everyone else, apparently). I'm so down for it. Listening to the NGNG podcast, so is basically every organized group that plays MWO.
Yeah, I've revised my opinion on them; they needed something to be competitive, and you were right that previous to the change I could easily ignore LRMs in anything that went over 100KpH, or sometimes even slower. That being said, I still believe that LRMs are too strong against medium mechs who typically get hit with the same number of missiles as heavy or assault mechs but lack the armor and sometimes AMS to deal with them. I think Kaboodles is right about medium mechs being too big, but I don't know that PGI would ever revise their size. Would it be simple to shrink the 3D model's frame, or is that as complex as designing a new mech? I'd like to see a little more spread on LRMs. I might hop in training grounds to see how many of my missiles hit against a still target.
I might try my X-5 out again, but I'm not sure that it will have a strong role as there are too many maps where there just isn't enough cover to get close enough to kill with medium lasers.
it has way too much LRM (especially for the 3F's limited tubes), not enough cooling to support its weapons, and ye gods an XL in a stalker

Eh, we've been saying mediums are too big since the Hunchback and Centurion, and those were the first mediums. The Centurion is at least gangly and has no super-easy parts to hit, but the majority of the mediums are just too damn big. A Hunchback is twice the mass of the Commando, yet is something like 5 times the volume; pretty crazy terrible.
And regardless, it does stand to reason that LRM damage should be normalized to the size of the target so that spamming LRMs would do the same relative damage to a light as to an assault. Yeah, keep it so they'll bring either end of the weight spectrum down with persistent hits, but not so that lights or mediums are fucked if they get hit by a single salvo from some mook with a ridiculous missile loadout.

Last nights games were solid fun. Thanks for everyone that grouped up!
Highlight of the night: with a little help from AssaultPig to remove a couple of superfluous limbs, I got the "Yep, Dead For Sure" achievement. I was already at 22% health, the impromptu limb removal just pushed it over the edge.
A teammate even commented earlier in the match, "Nips, your mech looks like a walking skeleton."
The funniest part is that ten seconds after the spare arm and leg were surgically removed, an enemy Jester rounded a nearby hill while we were sitting on a conquest point. I nearly had a heart attack, but my field surgeon swiftly (and I mean, like a split second after seeing it) and brutally cored out the enemy Catapult.
I don't think he posts here, but some of the dudes from back in the day were had like, friends-of-friends types of connections with him. I remember dropping with him a couple times

It's depressing when you use NARC in a pug, call out targets in chat, and noone launches bees at your guy, instead shooting at the people 1200 away behind a wall.

Well this is a new and unpleasant experience.
It took me ten full seconds of staring at the screen to discern what killed me. So much for learning to use the Override button!
Also: First three matches of the day on Terra Therma, on a Griffin that I'm struggling to find a non-LRM build that works, all of which so far have been hot-running. x_x
did you overheat and cook your missiles off or something?
also narcs are actually pretty cool now; kinda makes me wish I still had a jenner with missile hardpoints to drive. I had a game last night when we had a commando with a narc, and me and another LRM mech just wrecked a couple of atlases that way

Naw, I pushed my heat too far into the red. Even so, why did my side torso cook out before....say, anything else? It obviously doesn't apply the heat damage evenly (why the heck not?) since my other side internal is completely untouched. Thanks, game!
I'm going back to just not overheating. It's just not worth risking an override for my tastes.
Yea, override damage is harsh, and random throughout your components. They have a post up in command chair somewhere that describes the details.
I'm enjoying LRMs again. Before I could do alright, but a "great" game with an LRM Griffon was 5-600 damage. Now that's a good game, and a great game is a bit higher--so for my skill level anyway, LRMs are closer to my other loadouts.
I've had some fun with my wang today too, both on Crimson Straight. In the first one I was hanging around behind a building when a locust zoomed past me. I fell in behind him to chase and BOOM took off his leg. BOOM again and gone is the second leg. So satisfying! The second one nearly my entire team went tunnel so I followed them in. Since I'm short range and need some space to run around, the peek-a-boo game they were playing wasn't going to work for me, I'd just get in the way. I was behind them watching the rear, occasionally going out the side to look around when a spider starts coming down the far end of the tunnel. Rather than just charge and maybe spook him before he got in range I waited around the bend.. waited.. waited.. he came around and BOOM one shot the spider. Poor bastard surely saw me when I saw him, he should have retreated! We ended up losing that match, badly, because all our assault mechs (including a pair of DDCs) in the tunnel just got themselves shredded somehow without returning any fire because they had totally pitiful damage. I escaped out the back and got another kill on a griffin or something that had separated from the group before being overwhelmed.
In another game I was in my LRM/LL/AC10 Highlander on Canyon map on a high point just freely putting the hurt down on hostiles below that were brawling with my team when a cicada showed up behind and attacked me, I got a few shots on him and he stopped for just a second and I got a NARC on him. The missile rain started to fly and he ran away. NARC may just be a fantastic defense against light backstabbers if you can land it and have puggers who will respond.

Override damage is randomly assigned, and it can really fuck you up bad.
So I've been solo dropping this whole afternoon. I bought the Oxide and thought with BAP and 4 SSRMs that I'd be pretty good at chasing off all those ECM spiders and ravens. The only problem is that there haven't been any lights to chase off. I've dropped 3 games in a row now where the lightest mech has been 50 tons. I didn't bring enough ammo to core out multiple stalkers from behind. Of course the moment I drop in my Catapult there's a whole lance of them.
@Kaboodles_The_Assassin, I remember you weren't getting good results with the Golden Boy. With the LRM change I'm running 2LRM10(5), 3SSRM2(1), 2ML, TAG, BAP, AMS, XL280 and seeing good results. I run this as a HVAA support: I stick with the pack and fire the LRMs whenever a good opportunity arises, but my primary job is to chase off ECM lights: hence the BAP. Only 1 ton of SSRM ammo is needed: I've never exhausted mine yet, and it can put out some pretty decent damage at a sweet spot of about 250m when I can fire all my weapons. I could probably shed a 1/2 ton of armor and the BAP to upgrade to Artemis because it's lack is noticeable, but you can't have it all in a medium mech can you?
I finally broke down and bought my first module: Target Decay. I've actually bought the proficiency for it and seismic sensor, and I'll likely be able to get advanced zoom soon, but C-Bills are the big limiting factor. I spent way too much time yesterday getting elite proficiencies unlocked in the Jenner-D, F, and Oxide, and my W/L and K/D ratios tanked for it. The Oxide was steady though. It only took me 11 games to unlock everything compared to 20 a piece for the other two. Mastering Jenners will take a fair bit of time and I'll come out with a nice pile of C-bills that I think will go towards Catapults as my next mech to master. I'm still too scared to try running the X-5: I'd love it if they'd put AMS at least on there, but then I'd have to downgrade the engine...
edit: where are you guys seeing your ranking in the tournament? When I go to the webpage it just shows the details and the top 10 in each faction.
edit to the edit: nvm, I saw it at the bottom there. #330. I bet I could bump that up with a few more games in the Catapult.

Hopefully its not a total shit show.

I regret to inform you that I'm still pulling out LRM shrapnel from the seat cushions of my Cicadas, so I built something a little different...
Hmm...something's missing... Oh yeah. Can't spell LOL without LRMs!
That's a start, but it's missing something...
Better...
Nailed it.
But do they work?
See? I told ya I'd break 500 my first time in a Stalker.
Aww...
once it turns around
wish some of the other variants had twist stats that weren't so awful; the 3F is the only one I can handle driving

Also blowing away oblivious LRM boats. I got behind the other team my last match and tore through two of them before they even knew I was there.

He's that guy the one NGNG guy at the release event had a severe mancrush on.

maaaaaybe....
What are you talking about? You only need 10 rounds with 6 kills, 6 assists, and 600 damage. Piece of cake, right?
I can't play for shit this weekend. Just bad round after bad round for me.
really?!?!?! thats a below average night for me!
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Ditto here. That pic from above is just the icing on a shit cake. My matches today were just piss poor.
At this point, all I care about is getting my ten matches in. If I'm dead last for the FRR, then so be it.
[Edit] Currently 722nd on the FRR board! And FRR is beating House Liao! Hah!
[Edit 2] This shit continues to be inexcusable. The 3/3/3/3 Launch Module team comp can't come soon enough.
