Erik Bergman here. Well, I’m in and I’ve started warming up. DDR is going to be tough for me, but I’ve started training. Double Dash might be a bit tricky too, but I’m going to try to learn all the courses. I’m planning to take a good part of a day and focus on each of the games that are announced. Hopefully the last game will be Super Mario Brothers 3, like at the end of The Wizard. That would be fu*king sweet.

Just thought I’d let people know what’s going on with at least one of the Omeganauts. Any others out there?

I'm Jonathan Soon, nice to meet you Erik.

I've been playing a lot of HALO (I bought an XBOX on launch day and I only got HALO because of this contest. ) and Diceland lately. In a weird conicidence I've been playing DDR for like a month before I found out I was going to be participating in the OMEGATHON. Sometime during this weekend it'll be a lot of DOOM and Mario Kart for me.

Regardless of how I do, i'm totally getting my hands on more Diceland stuff. That game is fun, I'm glad OMEGATHON gave me an excuse to try it out. I <3 Cheapass Games (Kill/Save Dr. Lucky is TOO GOOD).

Hey Jonathan just read your post about giving a lot of the stuff to child’s play. I was thinking about the same thing, I mean how much gaming stuff can one person really handle? It’s all about the contest, not just the prize. I just want to make it to day two.

Hey guys and gals, this is Holland Hume (they reversed my name on the front page). I look forward to playing with all of you. I'm definitely going to try my hardest to win, but more importantly, I hope it can be a fun experience for everyone. Let's all make the best of it!

    Hey everybody. Matt Foster here.

Yea, Im totally pysched up about this contest. Im throwing a gaming party at my house on sat and its gonna be lan halo and lan mario kart all night long. Im a little rusty on DDR, but I do have 2 years of experience under the rust. Im in love with stratagy so i think diceland will play to my favor, unless luck totally doesn't. My biggest worries are Doom, which I don't even know if I'll get to practice at all, and the mystery game.

I hope to make it far, just for the sake of saying, 'hey, look at me'. Im big on the glory aspect of this contest, although the prize is nothing to sneeze at. I figure if i win Im gonna let my friends rumage through and pick out some stuff they want, and then Im gonna sell all doubles of what i already have and donate the procedes to childs play.

Well, its just about a week now, and with and luck, I'll be ready for you all come sat at 10.

    Peace out, Jersey style.

Well, Ive done some investigating, at it seems that Halo will defintly be the Xbox version and Doom defintly on the PC. I just thought I would mention this because I know i was getting worried I would have to practice Halo on a keyboard or my N64 doom.

As for the reasoning, the schedule puts the omegathon halo in the console room and the Doom in the PC/LAN room. Also I bet Its going to be Doom 3 because the machines are gonna be top notch, so I'm sure they want to be running the newest, but I can't gaurentee it.

Greetings. It's 2:35 AM here in sunny California, and like usual, I just finished spending most of the night and morning videogaming. I guess some of you might like to know my experience with the Omegathon games, so here goes. Without further ado, my master plan...

I figure I'll be decent at diceland, be in the top 4 at Halo, scrape through MK:DD, win DDR, then get knocked out in the 5th round. I'll be honest with you guys, sure it'll be fun to play but that prize is a powerful source of motivation. I'm gonna be mighty disappointed if I lose.

    Hasta la siguiente vez,

    Josh Eash here.

    My predictions:

In Diceland, I'll be the dude scratching his head wondering why I can't just knock all your dice off the table and be the winner. Hopefully I can still make it through to the next round anyway. :D

In Halo you shall know me as the guy with all the "Kill-taculars".

In Mario Kart you shall know me as Mr. Co-First Place with whichever one of you is my most-badass teammate. Unless of course we draw the sucktastic Waluigi and Peach combo. In that case, it's anyone's game.

Then day two will come. As long as I haven't been stricken by the aforementioned Waluigi/Peach jinx, you shall see me bright and early once again.

In DDR, I'll be known as that big awkward guy that stumbled like a drunk with a bum leg through whatever crappy Techno song they've selected for me to boogie to. If they do regular DDR tourney rules (By Score rather than by dancing against whomever you are lucky or unlucky enough to be paired against)...who knows. Maybe I'll be up against others who suck at DDR, and have a shot at advancing. Otherwise, the 2 or 3 of you that spend your evenings at Gameworks dancing to impress the girls are going to wipe the floor with the rest of us gamers. :D

However....if I can channel John Travolta for even the briefest of moments....then you shall know me in Doom as Mr. Fragtastic once again....AKA, the same motherfucker with the Kill-Taculars in Halo, now dishing them out once again, but without the cheesy voice overs and in much lower resolution.

Of course....I got all of these predictions from Miss Cleo three years ago before she went to prison with Martha Stewart, so this could all be bunk.

Hey Gabe, that's great; you're giving some strong respect to a great game. No mouse support is the way to go. I never played with the mouse, myself; hopefully, you Omeganaughts did the same.

Are there going to be any Doom (I and/or II) tournaments? I didn't see it on the PAX site, though I may have missed it. If not, could it be possible to set one up? I have Doom 95; it's Doom II with a GUI interface. I could also bring the Doom1.wad, and maybe some others, if I still have them, if anyone's interested.

Hey JoshEEE, those are some pretty strong words regarding your mastery of fps games. You have any tournament wins under your belt to back them up?

Personally, I play a lot and I'm better than most, but I'm not phenomenal. I'm usually somewhere in the top 25% in big games of dedicated players. Halo shouldn't be a problem.

By the way, what's this about random karts in double dash? It mentions random pairings, but that includes random kart assignment?

Hey JoshEEE, those are some pretty strong words regarding your mastery of fps games. You have any tournament wins under your belt to back them up?

I will after next weekend. :D

    Nooch!

In all seriousness though....I don't know. I think I'll do alright. But it's wishful thinking. I'm sure there's someone at this thing that will be better than me. WAY better than me. Whether they're in the Omegathon or not....I know that's just bound to happen. It's a shame the Diceland round of the Omegathon is going on at the same time as the Halo tourney though....cause I'd love to try my hand in there with a few friends.

Bottom line though is that no, I do not have the misconception that I'm the best Halo player there. I'm just talking some smack. Having some fun. Playing the mind game with all the schmos I'm about to send home early next weekend.

I've already been humbled in the whole tournament play thing before. I once thought I was a really darn good Soul Calibur player. Then I played in the Penny Arcade sponsored tourney at Vegas Comic Con last year. Yeah....I won my fair share of matches, but I wasn't even in the top 5.
And the guy that beat me REALLY beat me.

There's always someone better. All the smack talk and all the practicing in the world won't change them owning you next weekend.

I just hope when that time comes....they just beat me, and own someone else so I can keep advancing. :D

    Like I said though...wishful thinking.

3 cheers for the no-mouse support; classic all the way. Now, if we could find out specifics on the other games, like Diceland and DDR, that would be super, SUPER cool. What versions will we be playing? And will DDR be on non-stop or arcade mode? If you could let us know, Gabe, that'd be really cool. Thanks (hopefully) in advance.

Ran into the same problem Josh. I was putting my team together, then I got the call. No Halo for the Omeganauts. But so what? We’re in THE competition, I think I can deal. Have to say diceland is even more fun than I thought it would be. My “Trainer” and friend Brian has been helping me with that and DDR. Not that he’s particularly skilled at either. :P

    Let me introduce myself. I'm Brian Madsen, personal trainer to Erik Bergman for the Omegathon. Let me tell you, he is psyched and ready to "own" all of you other "elite gamerz". I've been drilling him with games until he's a lean mean gaming machine! My prediction for the Omegathon, as follows;

Step 1. Diceland - Three of his competitors can't make it because their mommy won't let them go. One other can't get off work. Erik has no such problems; he's an unemployable college student. Even though he can't figure out why he can't just win by knocking his opponents' dice off the table, a strategy he's be working on under my tutelage, he's already in the next round by default. Easy as cake.

This is where plan "slosh" commences. I show up in a clever disguise with a bunch of lemonade for the other competitors spiked with Bacardi 151.

Step 2. Halo: Combat Evolved - By this time a couple of people are passed out because of the copious amounts of rum. Two more have ingested enough to be unable to see straight and Erik gets enought frags on them to barely make it into the next round. Score two for Bergman. I continue pumping lemonade into the other contestants until the next round.

Step 3. Double Dash - Erik, by sheer luck, manages to get paired with a world champion double-dash player, one who hasn't succumbed to the curse of my piratey beverage. Although he drags down the game, his partner manages to pull them through to day two. All right! Way to leech off of someone elses gaming ability!

Step 4. Dance Dance Revolution - My protege is one of the few people in the morning to show up for the competition without a hangover. One competitor has such a bad hangover he can't get out of bed. Another counters by drinking enough caffeine to be hallucinating that he thinks he's a pixie. Two more are incapacitated by the pretty lights and crappy techno. Another last place victory for Erik.

Step 5. Doom - One participant goes crazy from the stress of all the gaming and attacks another one. One arrested, one hospitalized. Again, victory by default. Awesome!

Step 6. Mystery Round - Game turns out to be minesweeper. I drop my disguise, and I look enough like Erik to get myself in there and win hands down. Ah yes, minesweeper: the only game that I have any skills at. That's right 108 seconds on advanced. Beat that! I "own" all of you. And I get 10% of the prize! (unbeknownst to him, it's in the contract I made Erik sign upon taking me as his personal trainer).

    Later all.

Maybe plan "slosh" will unlock my true gaming abilities, like The Legend of Drunken Master.

Any ways, I have a question for my fellow omeganauts about Diceland. Do you think Orange (Deep White Sea version) should be banned? In my gaming they seem to be very overpowered, especially Micro and one of the Henk brothers. I believe Micro has 5 or 6 omni-directional all-range sides and a jump, not to mention awesome defense. Then the Henk brother is only 6 points for a warrior with far, far better defense and attack than any comparably priced warrior. What are your thoughts?

IMHO, nah. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Banning one of the default colors of Diceland would be like banning Ken and Ryu from SF2 because they're "just too good". Of course...this may just be because I like orange....and I want to use them. :D

Now....banning creating your own armies from combinations of the colors? That I'm down with. You could build a pretty invicible army with a combo of a few colors. :D

It seems to me that some of the armies are better in multiplayer than they are in single player. It'll be interesting to see how they do army selection.

Uh... Multiplayer and single player? I was under the impression that there is only one style of play, 1 vs. 1

And yeah, when the game is all about rolling dice luck is a big factor, but it seems that good placing and awful luck beats decent placing and awesome luck.

While we're on the subject, what army do you like? I'm partial to white, they're a tricky breed.

You can play multiplayer for Diceland, I think the rules are online. The basic point is that eveyrone has an equal side of the table to throw from, so for 5 people (we're divided into 4 groups of 5) I'm assuming we'll be playing on some sort of round table.

As for armies, I can't really say since I've only played the basic version. There are a bunch of expansions...

Now, I'm not supposed to tell anyone about this, but since you all seem like nice people (except what's his face with the death threats, you don't get to read this :P ) I'm going to tell you what it is. Try to keep this on the down low though, since you're not supposed to find out about this yet. So the last round of the Omegathon will in fact be a sword fight to the death. The prize for second is they pay for your funeral. Try to act surprised when they anounce it so that I don't get in too much trouble for letting you know. Later all.
