Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota for me.
there are wilder stretches of the badlands out there where there are probably less than 5 people per square mile living there, and you can see the bands of the milky way on a clear enough night.
It's majestic.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
I like that Dr Tyson, as a kid, went to the Hayden Planetarium and his reaction was, "That's a beautiful lie. There aren't that many stars in the sky"
And I did like how they showed the Toucan and other constellations in the show
I...may have learned Tolkein's elvish alphabet in order to write secret messages in my journals, just in case.

Here's a light pollution map for North America.
And here's the approximate scale (they don't exactly align, but it's close enough). If you get to a dark enough area, the light from the Milky Way is enough to cast shadows during a New Moon.
I liked the part where he mentioned "some people believe the universe is only 6,000 years old" and then goes on to show how that would eliminate a lot of the light from the stars we can observe.
The only right way for science to teach the controversy is to give the assertions and then show their results using data gained through scientific study.
A big effects budget just helps drive it home.

Second Highlight: Captain Picard talking about space and time travel.
Whole show was aces this week.

Too many times it seemed like Tyson was trying to imitate Gus Fring (ha tyson chicken, get it?!)
But I am glad we got space stuff as opposed to boring Earth stuff.
Glad I'm not the only one who thought that!
Did they kill him or spawn a whole new universe filled with Neils?
Brittainna runes for me.
Is this a Jonathan Lethem reference...?

Well, due to the time dilation, we'll still die long before he does.
But every time they do the beach cartoons all I hear is this...
I understand why it happens, which is why I'll show my support by buying the series, but come on FOX
Bullock: Son, can you keep a secret?
me: RUN BOY! RUN AWAY!
Patric Stewart is awesome and should be in everything.
it gets repeated on National Geographic on Monday nights. maybe see if they show it with fewer ad breaks. anyone watched the repeat that can comment?
Well, see, second problem is that I work Sunday-Thursday until midnight. I do have access to a tv, but I can't put my undivided attention to it since I'm, well, at work and this show deserves undivided attentions. Yesterday was just the last day of a stay-home vacation.
It's less about the commercials that stop me, but I just really wanted to bitch about them. Because, god damn FOX.
As for last week's episode. I can't really fault them with Hooke, that was the only description we had of the man and given that he is still given credit for his discoveries, it's probably safe to say the dude really was an asshole.
I take it you don't have a means to record this? Also the commercials on Hulu aren't too bad, I say they are still god awful, but I don't recall having to deal with 3 different commercial breaks, each being 3+ minutes long, in the same show.

Nice chart to figure out how honest a news source is.
Same number of breaks in the same spots. Just different ads and one break is filled with utter fluff behind-the-scenes stuff about how awesome everyone is.
Battlenet ID: MildC#11186 - If I'm in the game, send me an invite at anytime and I'll play.
No, I don't have a DVR or anything like that, so I've been doing naughty things to watch it. Maybe I'll go the hulu route next week.
That makes me happy.

god put all the incoming light 6000 light years away to make the universe look like it was older than 6000 years old
go to fox.com like two days later, the full ep with no ads if you have ad blocker (or maybe there just aren't any!)
Ah, the troll god interpretation.
Usually combined with 'he did it to test your faith' or 'The devil did it to make you doubt god'
well that sucks.
open this link in chrome with adblock on
enjoy full episode with no ads

That is amazing in it's simplicity, which means I would never think of it. Thanks!
It def still has ads sans ad blocker.
Kind of annoying but a stupid game of which one comes first
SIG has laid this out there already, but I get the feeling people are having a difficult time reading the thread or something?
Or do some people have something against google or ad blocking? If so, watch the ads without complaint? If not, there's nothing stopping you from never seeing those ads again, we have the technology!
