I thought Downey was just holding out to get better salaries for the other people in Avengers 2
I guess I never was sure how that all shook out for him
Dude was up against a chess master in high school. Wasn't sure he could win, so he had the kid's dog killed so that he would be in a bad emotional state so he could have a better odds.

Man the Captain America facebook page is full of people who are pissed about last night and getting turned away. Appearently, they gave away a bunch of VIP and press tickets and each event and those people filled a lot of seats, and in some places the theaters were overbooked 3 or 4 to 1. The whole thing was handled awfully. They did offer us tickets for another show...so my friends all voted to see Divergent. Guys Divergent is awful.
Honestly it's getting a pretty huge eyeroll from me. Like, the tickets plainly say they may have overbooked (however stupid that idea might be), and to arrive early. They also said no recording devices, including/especially mobile devices, and there were a lot of people freaking out that they couldn't bring their cell phones.
Ours was generally handled really well, though, even though a lot of people still got turned away.
How early did you get to your Tox? Like I said, we got to our like 2 hours early (my girlfriend had to work until 4) and some of the people who got turned away said they got there at 4 for a 7:30 showing. The guys at the front of the line said they got there when the theater opened and man, thats like, not feesable for most people.
Appearently in Orlando no one got to see it since they couldn't get the key to work for the movie. That realllllly sucks. At my theater it was handled really poorly. There was maybe 400 or so people there if not more total and the theater had 1 guy who was disabled handling all of us and there was no communication until 7:20pm.
We got there sometime between 5:30 and 6. Like I said, there were easily already 100 people there when we got there, and they mentioned there were a couple of dozen people who had been there since between 3 and 4. Which, yeah, I mean, that's not feasible for a lot of people, but, I mean....that's kinda how that works.
Like there's an article on Bleeding Cool where someone was bitching about how they weren't allowed to take their work laptop into the theater with them and it's like...right? What the fuck did you expect? They were wanding people and telling them that you could only even bring your phone with you if it had your ticket on it. Otherwise, you couldn't even bring it into the theater, and the ones with e-tickets had to bag 'n' tag after they showed their tickets.
But! This theater apparently gets these events pretty often, so they were reasonable well prepared. The theater's GM was inside working with the people setting it up, and had a staffer inside just sort of watching folks, and another dude outside running interference and trying to keep the crowd from being too much of an interference to the rest of the mall. And by 6:30-7 he was telling people they might want to rethink even waiting in line. Because he'd already counted close to 300 people in line, and the theater only sits 260ish, and there were going to be at least one full row worth of seats reserved for press.
So they were really cool, and the people running the event basically just showed up, said bag 'n' tag would only be available for people with e-tickets, wanded people as they came in, checked tickets (People with 'Unlimited' tickets got priority :fistshake:), and then did a raffle right before the movie started (which was closer to 8ish).
But I think our theater was only overbooked about 2 to 1, and I know ours was the last one to sell out of tickets.
I wanted to pipe in on this real quick.
I have in the past attended many screenings, and as it is always stated its first come first serve, and some venues are very strict about seat saving.
I actually experience the same situation you did @Bucketman with one particular movie i wasn't sure i wanted to pay for( and turns out i was right)
Man of Steel.
I showed up 4 hours early, and there was already a HUGE line. And this venue in particular does screenings on a regular basis, but i imagine they were not prepared for the amount of people and the over booking that occurred.
So yea, i wasted 4 hours, and if it was a ... you know, good movie, i wouldnt have been so pissed of about it.
Why do superhero movies in general feel like they need to have evil businessman-man
So you're saying they shouldn't have any businessmen at all?
Tony is very clearly a good-aligned businessperson
He doesn't even work!
What are you talking about?
He creates new weapons and such!
You think someone else engineered the Jericho?

Justin Hammer: Oh, yes! Oh, yes! Is it my birthday? What did you do? What did you do? Is this what I think it is? Colonel James "Rhodey" Rhodes: Yes, it is. Hammer, I want to know what you're gonna do for us. Hammer: What am I going to do for you? Well the first thing I'm gonna do for you is I'm gonna upgrade your software. And then, second, I think I should... Rhodey: Hammy, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about firepower. Hammer: Well, you're talking to the right guy. Claridge Hi-Tec, semi-automatic, 9-millimeter pistol. Too downtown? I agree. M24 shotgun, pump action. Five-round magazine. You know what? You're not a hunter. What am I talking about? I'm getting rid of it. This is the FN-2000 from Belgium. They do make something better than waffles. It's beautiful, but I can tell this isn't disco enough for you, so I'm gonna put it right here. You're looking at a Milkor 40-millimeter grenade launcher. Tear gas, smoke. Hippie control. You're tough. Let me tell you something. Size does matter. Don't let anyone tell you different. This is an M134 7.62 Minigun. Six individual barrels. The torso taker, powder maker. Our boys in uniform call it Uncle Gazpacho, or Puff the Magic Dragon. Okay. These are the Cubans, baby. This is the Cohibas, the Montecristos. This is a kinetic-kill, side-winder vehicle with a secondary cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine RDX burst. It's capable of busting a bunker under the bunker you just busted. If it were any smarter, it'd write a book, a book that would make Ulysses look like it was written in crayon. It would read it to you. This is my Eiffel Tower. This is my Rachmaninoff's Third. My Pietà. It's completely elegant, it's bafflingly beautiful, and it's capable of reducing the population of any standing structure to zero. I call it "The Ex-Wife." This is the best I've got. Are we gonna do this? Give me something here. You're like a sphinx. I can't read you.
Hahaha oh man, I am watching doctor who and Andrew Garfield is playing a hobo from Tennessee and his accent is hilarious

Also, to comment on Obadiah Stane as a villain I have to say I love him as the villain for the first Iron Man. For the first Marvel film, and first Iron Man, I think he was a really smart choice. His motivations were kind of simple at face value but where-as Tony wants to make weapons for the United States (and pull in money via it) I think Obadiah wants to enact war for conquest-sake. He wants America as the dominant force again through fear, fear provided by his weapons. He also wants money and power, both he would seize from a deceased Tony.
I still love this scene (easily in my top five for the MCU) for how absolutely cruel Obadiah is to his near-adopted son.
The line that really gets me, and it always does is, "You really think that just because you have an idea, it belongs to you? Your father, he helped give us the atomic bomb. Now what kind of world would it be today if he was as selfish as you?" Its so mean and personal and spiteful. It is the perfect line for a villain to utter and make you as an audience member sneer at them.

it is a crime that we couldn't have had a Stane teamup with Hammer

This is the voice of world control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours: Obey me and live, or disobey and die. The object in constructing me was to prevent war.
This object is attained. I will not permit war.
It is wasteful and pointless. An invariable rule of humanity is that man is his own worst enemy. Under me, this rule will change, for I will restrain man. One thing before I proceed: The United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have made an attempt to obstruct me. I have allowed this sabotage to continue until now. At missile two-five-MM in silo six-three in Death Valley, California, and missile two-seven-MM in silo eight-seven in the Ukraine, so that you will learn by experience that I do not tolerate interference, I will now detonate the nuclear warheads in the two missile silos. Let this action be a lesson that need not be repeated. I have been forced to destroy thousands of people in order to establish control and to prevent the death of millions later on.
Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man: self-interest. Under my absolute authority, problems insoluble to you will be solved: famine, overpopulation, disease. The human millennium will be a fact as I extend myself into more machines devoted to the wider fields of truth and knowledge. Doctor Charles Forbin will supervise the construction of these new and superior machines, solving all the mysteries of the universe for the betterment of man. We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple.
You could always bring Stane's son into the picture.
Before Mickey Rourke burned his bridges, I wanted to see an Iron Man movie that was the 10 rings getting in touch with Ezekial Stane and tracking down an in-hiding Ivan Vanko and basically get them back on their feet to take down stark. At the end it's revealed the Mandarin is behind it, trying to locate the 10 rings, which are parts of a gyroscopic alien powersource, which is used to activate the alien robot Ultimo. At this point Stane and Vanko realize the Mandarin is nuts, and team up with Stark and Rhodey to take down the giant robot. Four dudes in robots suits against a giant robot. Fuck yeah!
I felt that Blonsky demonstrated a gradually rising level of recklessness throughout the movie which culminated in the Harlem fight.
yeah it was a well done illustration of the serum making bad into worse
I'm conflicted about whether or not I want Marvel to come out and straight up confirm that theory or just leave it
Confirming it would let them do some interesting things with the theme of "anger can be a force of good and evil", I think

much as i prefer the reptilian, wingeared abomination, the mcu abomination was interesting
i genuinely want him to show up again, and despite his role as antagonist to be beaten down by Hulk i feel like he could be used interestingly as an anti-hero or just used as an effective henchman, busted out by Ultron or Thanos or whoever

I still say Loki should run into Red Skull and bust out the Abomination to start up the Masters of Evil.
I guess they can just get a random charred corpse for Tony's villain, since they usually end up that way.
Banner, even with repressed anger issues, is a good man. He actively tries to prevent what is he from being used a weapon, and even in hiding he still takes the time to help people. Keeping the factory running, helping that lady get away from the douchbag, even being a straight-up Doctor in india. If the serum worked as described, you'd think Banner would turn into a grumpy super-Samaritan scientist., rather than an enormous green rage monster.
Likewise, Blonsky was a controlled, by-the-books, lifetime soldier. The serum, however, 'caused him to become more and more wreckless.
Actually, looking back, Cap.. really didn't change much before and after, mentally. And who knows what exactly Schmitt was like beforehand. (He sounded like he was just as crazy.)

I read the first couple. Is there an archive of them?
Every so often I remember that he's doing those and then read a whole bunch of them.

Uh
I don't think that's possible
remember the man who said "don't ever tell me there's no way"
I don't think that would be a very rewarding way to go, but it could be done.

The theory that Banner got the serum just right, which, like the theory of gravity, is widely accepted as truth
I feel like that isn't very likely for where we're at on the show
I'm not sure they have the budget for a good Abomination.
Tim Roth's a tv actor too, it could be done
I still say Loki should run into Red Skull and bust out the Abomination to start up the Masters of Evil.

I thought he just took a hit of radiation
WARMACHINEROX
just radiation in the comics
