Is there actual confirmation that they're running TrueSkill (or something), or have we mostly just been speculating that they probably are because why wouldn't they?
They claimed they did in an interview. I can't find the citation right now, but people aren't just speculating. It's been stated on some level by Respawn.
I'm not sure it's "TrueSkill" anymore, I think that's MS's old algorithm that they don't use anymore...but it's something.
I always find matchmaking interesting as like with Blizzard's SC2 system it always tries to put you up against people a little better or worse than you. But surely somewhere there's someone who is at the bottom of the pile - the person with the lowest skill rating. I wonder if they have any idea that they are literally the worst player to have ever played that game. There must be someone.
Only times where matches are one sided as all get out have been in campaign, most of the classic multi I play are way more even, including one attrition match going 250 249.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
In between crashes last night I got in about 20-30 minutes of Last Titan Standing (probably the longest I've gone between crashes). I started to really like the Stryder for its ability to continuously scoot around fights and in and out of danger but the quad rocket seems really meh. Its range seems very short, especially considering the game lists the Stryder's role as "artillery." The way the rockets just do that painfully slow spiral if you aren't aimed properly at something up close is infuriating.
Creep killing is massively underrated in this. In nearly all the games I've been MVP (about 50% of the 10 or so I've played so far) I've killed tonnes more grunts than anyone else - like usually 40 or so per match. It just doesn't make sense not to kil them, all you need to do is throw a grenade their way as you run past and with a multiplier you get some crazy xp for it too. Arc grenades are your friend.

It's actually probably a group of people that are within 1-2% of each other's hidden MMR, which is within the range of statistical error. It's unlikely these people know that they are literally the worst StarCraft players on the planet (at least from the pool of people that actually play online).
Something good to practice is stable aiming while moving.
Find a lamppost or something similar and try to keep your crosshair on its head consistently while you strafe around it, approach from an angle, and zig-zag around it. Do the same to a moving target if you can find one on some map.
This is also a great way to figure out if you need to adjust your mouse sensitivity.
Edit: Oh, and snap aiming. Turn to various angles and try to snap your mouse to the target. If you've ever seen someone turn 180 and headshot you, its all practice (assuming not an aimbot).

I'm pretty sure it's me. I think I'm the worst starcraft player on the planet.
Another good thing to practice is keeping your crosshair head-level while moving - maybe not as helpful in this game, what with all the jumping and running. I think someone might have mentioned that already though.
It kills me to watch people fix their crosshair on the ground or kneecap-level as they move.

Does anyone else find it strange that all these game publication have decided, after years of people screaming about it, that Titanfall is finally the title to review not only the game itself, but it's server infrastructure?
Are people just really gun shy after Battlefield? It's just very odd that all these publications decided at the same time, in what would seem an independent manner, to hold reviews of Titanfall until the retail servers had been tested out.

It is weird. It makes sense after Sim City, Battlefield, Diablo and even GTA Online were all marred by problems that significantly affected players but for them all to change tack on one single game is odd. As a small-fry reviewer I didn't get any instructions from Microsoft about it but maybe some of the bigger outlets did. Would make sense for MS to make people focus on the server architecture when it just so happens they've got it pretty much right for once. Azure is a beast and now more people might notice.

Well it was the first big multi title on the xbone and a selling point of the game was the azure servers. On top of that BF4 had such a diastaterpiece launch that maybe they thought "hmm lets wait and see if this game shits the bed too."

1. Go Terran
2. Spend entire match moving command center around the map
Here's a round that I had yesterday with some PA folks, possibly my best round ever. Everything was going my way, from the missed grenades that killed someone about to kill me, or dudes having my back, or the guy at the end who I barely killed before he evac'd. I also had a decent sniper round a bit later that I'm currently compiling.
That's a great round and it also shows the ridiculousness of the amped smart pistol. In my mind, it's on the same level as ghost squad or adrenaline surge, except it isn't rare.
I had the saddest burn card, I used one of the weapon amp cards and then died by getting squished without firing a shot. Unlocked a cheevo though "You are the worst stop playing."

Ran into Alucard from the forums out in the wild today. That was pretty cool.
Yesterday I got drop kicked by a dude who was my old boss. I recognized the stupid screen name he uses for everything. I made it my mission to ruin his life for the rest of the match.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
The non-amped smart pistol is pathetic IMO. The only pilot kills I have gotten with it were people I completely blind-sided, in which case I could have killed them with whatever gun probably.
Doesn't stop people from raging about it if various forums (not this one) are any indication. The problem is that because it's named pistol and looks like a handgun people think it is one. It's really a tiny little short-range lock-on missile launcher.
Anyone know if there's any way to play in full-screen windowed mode? Apparently playing it normal full-screen messes with f.lux, and I can really feel the difference in the evening on my eyes.
Right click on the game on Origin, go to properties and add these lines: -windowed -noborder
I wouldn't say I disregard pilots, but yeah. I usually end up with somewhere around 30 minion kills when I use the smart pistol (which is most of the time)

Well if they stand still enough to get pistoled they're basically grunts anyway :bz:
I'm absolutely loving the parkour and wall running aspect. I usually do that in games to begin with simply because I find it entertaining. Now there is an actual benefit from this?! Fuck yeah! Half the time I die and watch the replay, I'm also spotting wall-running spots I want to check out.
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.

Great for killing creeps of course, though.
The trick is to use it without the lock-on if you don't have the drop. After realizing I should stop waiting for it to get a lock when I get into a firefight with someone I started doing work. It does a pretty sweet amount of damage. Seems like 3 to 4 shots to the chest and you can down somebody.
I still can't believe how many people I've seen trying to park high up and use a sniper rifle. I'm sure the only reason it's there is to appease those people, but the movement of the game is such that if you're doing that you really aren't helping your team.

In hard point sure. In CTF or attrition; depends what you're shooting with that rifle.
Iron Sight or RDS should be a lot better for the DMR in this game than the scope, but I need to unlock them.

Yeah, I don't see that as a viable strategy, but on the other hand, parking up high in a spot with some cover is a great way to torment titans with your long range anti-Titan weapons.

Most of the time when I'm dying it's either getting booted when two of us parkour into each other, or when I'm trading pot shots with snipers on the roof at long ranges. The limited range of the pistol where it's valuable (longer than booting range, shorter than the pistol's max range) just seems like a zone where I never have lethal encounters.
I like to have a sniper on my team on CTF. So long as they're a decent shot anyway. Sometimes there's just too much distance between you and the flag carrier but with a good sniper it doesn't matter!

Think Amped version only requires 2 locks for a pilot kill, locks faster, and has better range.
