So, I just noticed that PAX is only open until 12 AM this year. Just curious as to what other people thought about that? Also, anyone have info as to why it may have been shortened this year?
They actually started this at pax prime 2013, reducing from 2am to midnight. I think the prevailing reason is that the amount of attendees that are in the convention between those times is very small in comparison to all the other times, and it costs money and lots of effort to staff the con and have the center open during those times. This slight change makes enforcer scheduling easier as well, and there aren't staff members that are expected to be up till 4am (mostly). I will miss the extra hours, like I did at prime, but I think it's a solid change that makes sense when all the moving parts are out in the open.

Valid points, and makes complete sense. It was just nice to hangout in the game room for so long, and, for some reason, it made the shuttle rides back to the hotel room fun. Everyone would be so tired but still very chatty with each other. Oh well. I'm still looking forward to everything.

A LOT of people don't stay past midnight.
Staff to get much needed rest.
Attendees get much needed rest!
"we're just doing what smalllady told us to do" - @Heels
Some of these panels..."Why Internet Jerks Aren't Going To Win, and You Can Help". Seems kinda naive to me...
Or how about "What You Can Do To End Bile and Hatred in Games Culture". I would not be surprised at all if the guy stands up and says "Short answer? Nothing. I will now take questions for the next 55 minutes."
Topics like that generalize to human nature and how to stop anger and evil from happening in the world. Well, spoiler alert, you can't.
I guess "hey guyz let's confront them internet jerks" is a much less attractive panel title.

I joked with my GF when reading through the panels that PAX was getting awfully "touchy-feely" this year. But, honestly, I think they are good discussions for the community as a whole to be having. It's true that you can't stop humans from being humans, and anger and hatred are pretty standard human emotions. But you can foster a community where people are more likely to speak up if someone is being an outright jerk. Pretending like it's not a problem gives power to the people who are breeding hatred. If you don't think the conversations are worthwhile, don't attend the panels.

Personally, I'm thrilled to see panels like these at PAX. Better to say something than nothing at all. It's worth discussing, especially since it seems like no one wants to talk and do anything about it.
Just to clarify, there are definitely Magic events happening at PAX - they're just on their own schedule page since most of them are "fire when ready" type events this year, and trying to include such data on the timetabled schedule would "flood" it with repetitive data. The MLP events you see (4 in total across the three days of PAX) are the only standing schedule events for the game (though there will be a demo/learn to play/free play area for the game all weekend). I guarantee that Magic's schedule and play area dwarfs it considerably. That said, Pandemonium is excited about bringing the MLP card game to PAX, so I encourage people to check it out while there!
As far as the existence of tabletop tournaments in general, we've almost always had them; it's been a steady movement to try to improve their visibility to the public though, so the apparent visibility on the schedule is likely a byproduct of that initiative.

I'm guessing this includes the concerts too? Bit of a bummer, as I remember them going well past 12am in past years.
About half the questions done live every year are:
a) Not a question
b) A chance to get on a soapbox and promote their own stuff
c) A failed attempt at humor
d) Have 15 parts to the question
or
e) Ramble on for 5 mins doing some combo of a-d, until the question is finally reached
Pre-screening eliminates those.
Honestly?
Aside from b (which I can't say I remember many, if any, of offhand), that aspect is kind of something I enjoyed - it was goofy fans interacting with the people they were fans of.
Pre-screening eliminates that as well, and - by my interpretation - creates other limits/restrictions which don't seem particularly appealing.
But, again, I'm a non-attendee - what I want/like doesn't particularly matter when people who are actually paying to attend desire otherwise.
It's pretty cool. You can search for tournaments multiple ways, either by map or by the regular schedule.
Pax xp seems like a pretty cool idea too. I wonder what the prize would be? Probably not great, but a free souvenir none the less.
Anyone know what the little symbols on the Blizzard, Microsoft, PlayStation, Behemoth and PAX merch booth means? there doesnt seem to be any kind of legend for the map.

It means they will have their own official pinny arcade pins.
I noticed that. I don't see Sony either which I found more surprising. On the other hand, Blizzard will be there which I'm quite excited for, since they weren't at Prime last year!
Anyone else notice that Gabe and Tycho are scheduled for a signing session at 2 pm on Sunday, but they are supposed to be participating in Aquisitions Incorporated from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.? Clones?
Is there a chance that more could be added to the floor? I also am surprised to not see Sony (my boyfriend will be disappointed) or Nintendo (I wanna cry). Any chance they could still come?

It's possible small changes could be made, but I sincerely doubt that exhibitors that large would suddenly pop up.
Excited with the groups that have official pinny arcade pins this year. Plus the whole floor of the expo hall looks like a good set up. SO DAMN EXCITED I WANNIT NOW

I am super nervous about this. My group is planning on leaving early on Sunday as we have a ten hour drive home and some of our group want to make it to work Monday morning, so we were planning to leave right after Acquisitions. Hopefully they don't change the time on that.

It is far more likely that they will move the signing session.
Ah! So all of a sudden.... I'm showing my boyfriend our schedule I took time to plan all out... And my app DELETES my guidebook! I didn't even hit anything. Ah! Anything I can do?

They have updated the schedule. The signing session is now at 10:30 am on Sunday. Which is awesome. Now I can go to both! That's going to be my whole Sunday. lol. Line up for signing. Get stuffed signed. Line up for Acquisitions. Watch awesomeness. Go home. Cry. lol.
Anyone know why there is no legal panel this year? The one last year packed out a huge room and was great. With all of the "who owns the word Candy" nonsense spiraling around the video game industry, along with alllll the incorrect answers and info on similar matters you'll find around the web, I thought this year's panel would have been amazing.
Looks like they are moving in a different legal direction - there is a panel on Friday entitled "Terrifying Adventures in Cyberland: A Legal Toolkit for Bullying, Stalking, and Harassment in Game Culture." Seems relevant in today's world.
Absolutely, but it's just a different area entirely. Trademark issues are SO important in the game world right now, and thought this would have been an excellent place to educate some people.

I didn't get any information from the description of the Polaris signings, and I would like some clarification if possible. Who might be at these signings?

My friends and I always stayed till 2am. It was so chill to just roam around between the concert, getting a beer in the food court area, and going to tabletop for a while. It was nice to unwind before going to the hotel.
The early closing, on top of the lack luster schedule makes me feel like this might be a very disappointing PAX.

As far as I know their panels are based on submissions. If no one submitted "I want to do a Legal Panel" then there won't be one. Of course its also possible it was submitted and not accepted so some other panel could have the space, but i'd guess if it filled a large room last year, if it was submitted they would do it again.

Stupid Question regarding the mobile app. I have last year's still on my iphone. Is there a new version available/coming avail, or should I just expect an update soon?

The app has been getting updates periodically, but within the app you have to download the East 2014 schedule.
