Help me find the title of a time travel story

Typhoid Manny

I read this story years ago and loved it, but apparently not enough to remember the title. It's about a guy who travels to a friend's house in Scandinavia, and then gets sucked back in time to pre-Viking days, spends some time there and eventually becomes the basis for legends about Thor.

I know this is kind of a longshot, but I figure if anyone knows what I'm talking about it'll be someone on these boards

I am almost sure I have read this. What I am remembering was not a story though, it was a full-length novel. Sadly I cannot remember the title either, it has been at least ten years. Read it over the course of one 7-hour car ride to my grandparents' house...

@Typhoid Manny, in the story you remember, was one of the major plots the protagonist helping this guy rescue the girl he was in love with who had been recruited to be a Valkyrie or something?

if I remember correctly there wasn't anything supernatural in the story, it was pretty much these two tribes that had been fighting forever, and then this strangely clad man comes to one of their villages with his pistol and helps them defeat their enemies

And the story I read definitely didn't have any firearms in it. Googling, Frost and Thunder is definitely not what I read. Now I wonder what it was?

you are correct. Found my dad's copy stuck behind a bookcase. this story is exactly as awesome as i remember it
