Yeah. Casey Hudson had a completely different idea of what Mass Effect was actually about from the people who were actually writing it. Which is, uh, a bit unfortunate.

I have never bought Mass Effect 3

I have Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

But the shit I heard about 3 and general direction the series was taking gameplay wise didn't agree with me.

One thing with DoTA is you have to kind of know all 3 roles a bit. But learning a champ is something you can do at will. Because @milk ducks‌ and @21stCentury‌ are playing support I have had to learn new roles which means new characters. Luckily I can learn any one that seems fun. And if I don't like the hero no waste in picking them up. No worries about a rotation so I can try the character I want.

Most people don't try to do an A-Z challenge in DoTA. They learn a character for each role or a few and try to stick with them.

pretty sure the new big mode add-on for the diablo expansion is essentially removing everything story-related

which is fine, especially compared to what it is now where I am periodically forced to mash spacebar to avoid mighty shittily written dialogue

the best thing about the me3 ending was that everything you did over 120+ hours of games and 5 years did not matter

not one shred of anything you had done with your character that you had finely sculpted to be your narrative mattered one single bit

90% of ME3 is really, really good. They re-added some of the complexity to the weapon and skill-tree systems that got cut out from ME2, and tying off the companion stories is immensely satisfying. The ending is super-dumb, but I've decided that the actual ending is when you finish the Citadel DLC.

Not having all the champs available bothered me until I realized it takes like a hundred games to get a champ down

so I'm x+100 games from learning a butt load of champs where x is how many games it takes to unlock them

but still for my first 99 games I won't know waht I'm doing, I just have to learn a champ that maybe I don't want to learn

learning is iterative. You don't go from scrub to god tier after a certain number of games.

The first game with the champ is likely to be your worst all things being equal.

right so what's the difference what's open to me?

Because it allows players to select champs in a manor I find distasteful at the small expense of instant gratification.

Also, if you just want to play Champ X, and are only interested in playing Champ X, and researched Champ X, and are super mad that you have to play up to 20 whole games of Champs A-H to unlock him. Well, I'll just give you the $2.

Cutting all the dialogue (not when you talk to NPCs just, outside of that) would have made Diablo 3 a much more interesting game

the player would have learned about the world mostly from what they saw (and the world is actually pretty interesting and well designed)

get rid of the pre-bossfight-cutscenes too, you just walk into the chamber and the butcher runs out and starts chopping at your dangly bits like he did in Diablo 1

    Hearthstone bores me.
They should make the characters come out of the cards and fight or something when you attack.
Instead they just made it a plain old card game.

I guess the one up side is that you're playing a card game on a computer so you don't have to deal with looking like a dork in public.

    Bless your heart.

I think playing a complex champ like Yasuo when you are brand new hinders your ability to learn the meta game required to successfully play a complex champ like Yasuo. It's not as simple as "here's a new champ learn this champ". It's also "This champ requires a deeper understanding of the metagame."

Let me give you an off the wall non lol example.

You are in the matrix and you are given the ability to perform advanced gymnastics and, I don't know, Krav Maga. You are up against another new guy with the ability to throw knives. That's it.

Only he knows you can run on walls and you don't. You don't even know how he's doing it when you see him doing it.

You take a knife to the face.

The story in Diablo 3 is the story of Diablo 2 if Hollywood would have decided to have made a movie of it back in 2005.

Including the parts where we get to watch a favorite character die pointlessly and the super demon at the end.

diablo 3 and others from this era will be kind of a big note in gaming's story telling

we're in this phase where games now have all this access to adding dialogue or visuals that look a lot like a full-on movie. Diablo 2 couldn't have even hoped to have as much dialogue as d3 on a technical level.

The problem is that movies aren't one to one with games in storytelling; you either have to focus game play on being tightly integrated with an involved story or you need to go really minimalist

we're still gonna get more mistakes like saturday morning diablo for like a decade or two but at least some studios might get out of that hole faster
